Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

what are your thoughts on Melissa's (mwade) post above? Begert in particular since we have been reading about Straight for a while

could be an off year anyways so good chance to get him and Macleod some game time...
straight will be fine, 90% version of Gill at BU. Begert will struggle

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

Yup, they really wanted him badly. Once under contract, AHL peanuts, they control everything including who dresses etc. Let this play out....

Never said they wanted him badly. All I was saying that at the risk of losing him for nothing, they wanted to sign him.

obviously he seems like an emergency pickup after samuelsson left. and with a boatload of recruits lined up for 2012 and 2013 they probably didnt want to commit any playing time away. this gives them 7 defensemen again and presumably he wont see much time barring a big surprise or injury. it is curious what they saw in him other than maybe making it a little more likely that straight comes to campus! 11 points for a rookie in the BCHL - there are probably a bunch of guys with that resume who would love to come to BC!

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

Definitely an emergency pick up. When you're looking at entering a season with only 6 D, you're not going to be able to be as picky as you'd like.

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

i gotta think that expectations for next year's team will be the lowest since 2001-2002...........

could be solid+
hayes, kreider, mullane, whitney, arnold are solid and would be top 6 on almost every team
carey and almeida could and should have break out years, thats a very good top 8
out of the 5 new F's, one or 2 will click

5/6 their d back, top 5 are all back
goalie will be solid

exceptional coaching, will be top 4 at worst

hopefully........... that's how high expectations have been every year since 2001-2002 . the down year in the stretch was 2008-2009 obviously but i believe Eagle fans were not expecting 18-14-5 and no NCAA's that year. Even though Gerbe left there was plenty coming back but for a myriad of reasons they never got rolling

i think what they get out of almeida will be one of the more intriguing storylines of the coming year (along with milner/billett). barry has seemed to have been asked to play a checking role that is well below his potential. now he will be looked at as a top line goal scorer for his first time at BC - a role he flourished at in the USHL.

exactly, as did carey who led the ushl in scoring...

also, remember hayes and arnold both came in a year early

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

C'mon!!!

Kreider and Jimmy Hayes coming back! Best two players in HE

i wish it was Jimmy coming back.......i don't see how your guys aren't the consensus favorite in HE next year. also, league wide HE lost a boatload of top players either through graduation early departures . it seems way more so than in any year in the past 6-7 years

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

I like the look of the 2011-2012 Eagles. Have some solid forward lines and the core of D returning. Only question mark will be in goal, but the staff hasn't failed to put a good tender on the ice in Jerry's years (don't rule out Milner. If he has a year like frosh season, we're good).

I expect to see a little modification in the teams play. Probably not as wide open as has been in recent years, but nothing wrong with a more defensive orientated game plan. That wins games too.

Looking forward to see who steps it up on the offensive end... someone always does. Lots of talent still on our forward lines. Looking forward to seeing how it all pans out. :)

It's hard to be optimistic when we've seemingly had the talent the last two years to do well yet haven't. Hopefully these guys learn how to play together and develop some chemistry.

The last 2 years? I think they won the year before.........

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

It's also hard to say the team didn't do well this past year. Picked a bad time to have a terrible game, but still had a great year.

Which team's thread did you think you were posting in?

Was responding to sterlippo's suggestion that BU should be the consensus favorite in HE next year. Sorry if that got confusing.
