Random, but I watched Brett Motherwell play tonight for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He was on the same line as Rhett Rakhshani of DU. Rakhshani scored and missed in the shootout; Motherwell didn't do too much.

I almost did a spit take when I saw his name on the roster. Almost forgot he existed.

Rakhshani, on the other hand, continues to be filthy. Much respect to that kid.

MC's national championship win over BC got BU on the front page again... though not exactly in the most glowing of circumstances this time

have to admit when i saw that, first thing i thought of was you getting all fired up because bu was back on the front page!! :p

Regarding the Quinnipiac connection to NESN: I believe that the Q has a top Communications program and it may be a way to help those majors get a foot in the door. A smart move by the administration to build up their reputation in that field.

Me too. The funniest part... BU didn't even play Friday night and they get the Saturday headline photo titled 'Eruption'. Must have been anticipating a BC fan base reaction. ;) :D

Hope the Eagles come out flying today and take it to Vermont early. Getting a little worried about this club. They get smacked around by MC physically on Friday and respond with some uncharacteristic retaliation crap. Play hockey the way they are capable of and there shouldn't be much of a problem. I look forward to their response today at 4 pm.

Looking forward to Brooks Dyroff's first game (played one exhibition last season).

I guess Dryoff looked pretty good today. As I mentioned before, I wonder if he may take some ice time from Tommy Atkinson? Also, any word of KHayes and if he's back fro BU?

today was a beatdown... the epic rubber match of hayes vs the hazers was a no contest. both offensively and defensively, vermont was never in the game. they mustered little to no shots on the power plays and they got beat up physically by the brown/atkinson/dryoff line. the catamounts looked more like paper tigers. the game was almost too easy for BC; i'm not even sure how much it prepared them for bu. but i'll take it.

great games (as usual) by alber, carey, and arnold; real steady/good play from shea as well as the new fourth line already mentioned; and Wey is starting to find an offensive groove. for my money, i'd like to see the same lineup out there for bu; but i assume steve whitney will find his way back into the lineup.

Well that was a nice response to Fridays game. :)
Good job Eagles!

Lines today were:
J. Whitney-Gibbons-Atkinson
Kreider-Mullane-J. Hayes
Carey-Arnold-Almeida
Atkinson-Brown-Dyroff

Dumoulin-Alber
Samuelsson-Shea
MacLeod-Wey

Love that 1st line back together.

Re: Boston College 2010-2011 In-Season Thread: Long Live The "Eagle" Empire!

Much better. Dyroff looked pretty good for his first game. I was a big fan of the Kreider-Mullane-Hayes line and think it should definitely stay together going forward.

I thought Vermont out-hit us in the first period, but other than that BC basically controlled every aspect of the game.

What the heck happened to Vermont? They made a ton of defensive mistakes - very uncharacteristic of the last few years for them. What gives?

I'm guessing you never saw the Kreider-K. Hayes-J. Hayes line together. They were pretty good too. ;)
That being said, I'd like to see Arnold center the Hayes brothers when K. Hayes returns.
I'm thinking a Carey-Mullane-Kreider line would gel pretty nicely also. Or interchange Mullane and Arnold.
Almeida-Brown-S.Whitney

But that's Jerry's job, and he seems to have a pretty good handle on this stuff when it matters most. :)

You know I'm thinking the same thing. Obviously if Hayes is back you have to get him in there to help with the offense but I really don't think BC missed S. Whitney much at all to be honest. He's really just a PP specialist on the point and doesn't offer much 5 on 5 in my opinion. If it's between Dryoff and T. Atkinson for that last forward spot, I'd consider going with Dryoff with the extra 4 inches of height and 25 lbs. Have to figure BC-BU is going to a be a tight, hard-hitting affair.

FYI... it's Dyroff guys, but it's pronounced like... 'Jones'. ;) :)

That's really weird, I always thought it was Dryoff.

I wonder what hokydad would say about the phenomenal play from Alber.

Re: Boston College 2010-2011 In-Season Thread: Long Live The "Eagle" Empire!

Nope probably not. We will probably always be the lowly doormat of HE to them. Couldn't you tell by Whitney's lunge out of the bench to attack a merrimack player from behind? The last few minutes where BC was taking all sorts of gross penalties it just screamed "I can't believe we're losing a season series to....Merrimack".

Salvo, what is your purpose? Please enlighten me again on how Merrimack made BC play YOUR game...

You won a regular season series against BC for the first time since when? Look it up. Congratulations. Now, start acting like you've been there before. Actually, since we are talking about Merrimack...nevermind. This reminds me of BC losing the season series to UVM last year. I really, really hope BC can meet Merrimack at the Garden.

That's really weird, I always thought it was Dryoff.

Speaking of hokydad, you know he always thought it was Dryoff...

Is Kevin Hayes coming back this weekend vs. BU? On one hand, I'd like to see him back in the line-up for the biggest series of the year (so far). On the other hand, keeping him out will give him four more weeks of rest before the Dartmouth tournament.

Couldn't agree more, infact I will go a step further and say that S. Whitney needs a few healthy scratches. He played a very average game against Maine (Sunday afternoon), and his attitude did not look like someone willing to grind away and play with passion. Word on the street is that he is not the most motivated student either, so I think there is some maturing to do for him. (Also evidenced by his actions at Merrimack.) A couple of healthy scratches and making him earn his way into the line-up might not be such a bad thing.

If that top line can get going again, this team will be tough to beat. If we remember, putting them together is what sparked BC's run last year. The grit of Gibbons, the vision of J. Whitney, and the goal scoring ability of Atkinson provides the perfect line combination. Hopefully they find what they had last year.

Re: Boston College 2010-2011 In-Season Thread: Long Live The "Eagle" Empire!

I think Kevin Hayes will not be in the line up this weekend for the very reason referenced by Boston22. The extended rest just seems to make sense long term.

Steve Whitney will be fine and has been fine in my opinion...just the need for a little more self control.

Great to see Brooks get the opportunity to perform...he made the best of that chance on Sunday.

Looking Forward:

BU versus BC is as good as it gets this weekend and presents a tremendous growth and development opportunity for the team...0 pts = major disappointment, 1 pt. = disappointment, 2 pts. = meeting expectation, 3 pts. = something to build on, 4 pts. = major achievement.

Keys to success...
a. Come ready to play 60 minutes of hockey from the opening whistle...twice.
b. Execute at seasonal averages on special teams.
c. Execute on 5 on 5 game plan relentlessly.
d. Play with the poise of a champion and the tenacity of a challenger.
