I think it's hard to say that Steve Whitney has been "fine" this season. That's not to say he's alone, but based on what we saw last season and what was said about him prior to coming to BC...I certainly expected more this season. He scored the first goal of the season for BC and hasn't scored since. Besides his pass to Arnold against Maine and he really hasn't stood out at all this year.

Here's the thing with Whitney. He has 4 points. Only 2 points are 5-on-5. The other 2 were PPs. He is also a -2, only Kreider (-6) and Shea (-3) are worse and Kevin Hayes is also a -2. Definitely not a great year for him so far. I don't want to honk on the kid... but he just doesn't jump out on the ice at all, I'm not seeing much improvement from last year. Have we reached his ceilling already? That's my question. He's a crafty player but it just isn't happening, at the least I want to see good play away from the puck, skate like your hair is on fire and hit someone, that usually helps to get things going. A line combo change for him might help get him moving. Confidence is a big thing in all sports, hockey especially, and he seems like he needs to get some confidence going by producing some points and then maybe it will open up his game a bit.

Joe didn't exactly have a great sophomore year either...

I think Hayes will definitely be back. I realize the scare with Tommy Cross might be the only thing that causes them to reconsider. I am comfortable with the lineup either way and just hope whatever they do is ultimately best in the long term interest of the player.

While everyone is down on Whitney and predictably focusing on the negative, I don't think nearly enough people are talking about the great play of Paul Carey. Holy crap, is he finally blossoming right in front of our eyes. He is showing up in the box scores for you out of towners, but even that doesn't do him justice. He is all over the ice making plays on every shift.

agree and also arnold but to a slightly less degree ........... he's a year behind so i think we'll have a pretty good one there too

The grit of Gibbons, the vision of J. Whitney, and the goal scoring ability of Atkinson provides the perfect line combination.
Mullane's goal on Sunday: He's standing wide open in front of the VT goal (he's been there, open, a LOT this season) and Joe Whitney sweeps behind the net and dishes a perfect bullet onto Mullanes tape. One timer - GOAL! He kinda stood there and hesitated, and I couldn't help thinking, that Mullane was thinking... "it's about time someone saw me."

d. Play with the poise of a champion and the tenacity of a challenger.
I like that! :)

BU versus BC is as good as it gets this weekend and presents a tremendous growth and development opportunity for the team...0 pts = major disappointment, 1 pt. = disappointment, 2 pts. = meeting expectation, 3 pts. = something to build on, 4 pts. = major achievement.
.

I expect three points. I'd be very disappointed with a split. BU has the most over-inflated record in the country. Time to pop their bubble.

interesting comment by Jerry after the UVM game about the play vs The Mack .......i wonder who he was referring to "not supporting him" or was it a few players? i thought it was a little more insight/info than he would usually give as it's an admission that some guy(s) are not giving their all

Read a little further down... “Joe has played a lot with Cam and Gibby in the past,” York said. “Maybe that helped us be a little more cohesive.”

yeah, i did but the way the line went thru my brain was that i was connecting the "one guy working hard" vs "the other not supporting him" and it came across as some not pulling their weight kinda thing

Re: Boston College 2010-2011 In-Season Thread: Long Live The "Eagle" Empire!

It sounds to me more like a comment on the team as a whole than any one or two players in particular- like the whole team didn't put forth a consistent effort. One shift one guy would work hard, but one of his linemates wouldn't. Then maybe the next shift would be the opposite. I don't think he was calling out anyone in particular. Just saying everyone had to work hard every shift and that didn't happen.

FYI, a BC alum playing for san jose just had a nice clean up goal as he was falling down. SJ goal number 2.

Was that Benn Ferriero, #78? Good to hear he is doing well. He got called up only a few games ago right? I don't think he has played many games, so two goals already sounds respectable. Hopefully he can stick in the pros.

THing is Hokey's reps were bad, but his comments weren't that bad. Whatever....
QUOTE]

One thing to remember Jcarter. The 3 or 4 guys who clipped and pasted the supposed neg reps left to them, were done so only after they left a vulger one first. Never left anyone a neg rep first. Including the supposed profromdover, who left more than one

Hope you had a nice holiday break, while I was off to Hawaii and Scotland fighting the bad weather and brutal economies. You think we have it bad, their real estate markets don't even exist. Below the auction phase. Back and have some nice new info which I will share later.

And yes, that was Benn. Nice to see him back up and to also get twice as many minutes as the BU player, JM. Benn could and should stick this time around.

Re: Boston College 2010-2011 In-Season Thread: Long Live The "Eagle" Empire!

I will tell you in my opinion what BC should be doing. They should be going after Kyle Murphy, who played at Notre Dame the past 2 years and is now with Vernon in the BCHL.
His older brother was a captain at BC and was a great player and kid for them. His other brother Justin was the teams manager for the past 4 years. Kyle went to Notre Dame out of Shattucks St Marys at 18, went in to early. Should be going to school now after 2 years in USHL.
Vernon has a great coaching staff and after 80/- games there and 140+/- practices, he will be ready+. They produced Gill over at BU and many others who are doing very well. He has 2 years left to play and could be a perfect filler if kids leave as expected next year. He is a tremendous all around player and is the center on their top line. Has several Ivy schools in the hunt and BC should be all over him. He has always been a top producer and plays the game as hard as anyone on BC now, without the silly after the whistle stuff. Would be the perfect 2 year player. Had about 75 points on a natl champ team at Shattucks his sr year, when he was 17.
