We hear 24/7 how only one school does it right, one school.

really? i don't think anyone says that or thinks that

Ok, I am wrong and will move on. Was a good amount of yapping back when Maine took Walsh after leaving BU if I remember correctly.

Not to be pessimistic, (totally going to be though), but he probably will not come back strong as ever. He might come back for a terrific game and couple good games. But knee injuries in hockey just get worse and worse. You never really come back 100% and your chances of re-injuring are higher. It sucks especially in this case since he seems to be such a great player. But don't be surprised if he loses time later in the season due to more injuries.

In general I agree, but Cross has set a precedent for himself in getting hurt and coming back. Last year is a perfect example. He can do it and hopefully will...

We hear 24/7 how only one school does it right, one school. Shows that if a kid can help win, they will go after him,. Even if he gets thrown out of another school and kicked off a team. I do though have to admit that "he had done everything asked of him in Dubuque". All 2 weeks of being there. BC is an elite program with great coaches but at the end of the day, same as everyone else.

Hokydad, please provide ONE quote from someone who said that ONLY BC does things the right way.

So because Saponari had some issues at BU, that means no other school can look at him? Did he commit any crimes I'm unaware of? It's called a second chance. You should be well aware of what one of those is. BC gave him a chance and HE couldn't get past admissions. One would normally applaud the BC admissions department for not letting an athlete in, but you somehow twist that around and try taking a shot at BC for giving him that chance? That's twisted logic if I've ever seen it.

And again, no, BC is not the same as everyone else. They've been better than everyone else as indicated by the three national titles in 10 years.

By who? Was this board even around back then? And if so, I don't think you were a member.

I said I was wrong. good point about BC should be commended for not letting in a sub standard student. very good point.

My only point was that we always hear how BC only goes after quality kids, on and off the ice. Kind of a reach on my part but with the possible early departures next eyar, they might have dropped the bar a hair to make sure they remained competitive. I would also argue that it is not a 2nd chance. if you factor in everything from BU and NTDP...

He deserves a second chance obviously. said early on that it is very tough to do the 4/2/4 route. just look at Joe lavin at Notre dame. Will be surprised if he pulls it off but hope he does.

So where do you think VP ends up?

For those who are going to Saturday's game, please bring a new, unwrapped toy (appropriate for a hospital setting) to Conte Forum to support the BC hockey team's toy drive for Children's Hospital. :)

I don't know what this means. If it's true that Saponari couldn't get past admissions, how is that a statement on Boston College?

Are we even sure this is how the whole VS to BC fizzled out? I find it hard to believe BC would offer him a position on the team without going through admissions?

No kid at that age is going to be perfect, but I do think York wants/recruits quality kids--that's not a revelation. Every coach would want that situation and I don't think anybody is saying that BC is the only school that does that. They aren't. It's hard to argue with York's reputation though. I don't have inside information, so I think it's possible they got to know Saponari/people close to him and thought he was worthy of another shot. The fact BC admissions wouldn't sneak him in DOES speak volumes about BC IMO. Good for them in not lowering the bar.

No, we're not. You bring up a good point, but I don't know how the whole process works. Couldn't it be as simple as you have a scholarship here as long as you are accepted by admissions?

I don't want to be the ignorant ******* on the thread, but what does 4/2/4 mean?

Re: Boston College 2010-2011 In-Season Thread: Long Live The "Eagle" Empire!

does that mean four years in high school, two on the us national development team, and 4 in college?

Re: Boston College 2010-2011 In-Season Thread: Long Live The "Eagle" Empire!

if you leave you have to do a 4/2/4

whicjh means leave your current 4 year school, enroll in a 2 year program, transfer the credits. then graduate with an associate degree and go back to a 4 year school and hope they accept the credits. some try it with on line and get stopped at door the following year

very difficult but is done. lavin did it and is at notre dame. a kid left northeastern 2 years ago, went to vernon and is now at dartmouth

lyles and murphy are doing it as we speak

Lavin left PC after the first semester of his Soph year.
His departure had nothing to do with academics.
Played junior for the remainder of the year.
Entered Notre Dame in the fall, practiced with the team and began playing the second semester.
He is currently a senior and will be done at the end of this season.

Saponari didn't leave for academic reasons either. But any time you're talking about transferring from one school to another, it has EVERYTHING to do with academics. Not just whether or not you're smart enough to get in, but also if your credits will transfer and other stuff.

Mostly true
very good student but did not enroll in the fall as you state. Played the first half of last year with Omaha in the USHL as an 89 over aged player
Joined Notre Dame for the 2nd semester only and did very well
Did the 4/2/4 as stated
Tough to do with USHL tra vel etc b but is becoming more common

Anelowski at UNO did it as well
Played with Cedar Rapids last year

USHL is working with NCAA to make it work and be called a gap year

Is it official that Vinny isn't going to be at BC? Where are you guys hearing this?

I hope something pans out for him, he's got talent. Hopefully his head stays on straight.

In any case, see you all this weekend.

Cheers!

When's the last time they put up 9? I recall a home game vs UMass maybe 6-8 years ago that they won 9-0. Any wins on that scale on the road anyone can recall? Yale last year doesn't count..

Edit; answered my own question. oct 15 2005 at Bowling Green. 9-6 BC won.
