The problem was then, as it is now, the economy didn't grow fast enough, and for some people, those down on their luck heartland Americans that Donnie pledged he was gonna work for, their status didn't improve much, if at all.
Economists in 2009 were saying that Congress needed to pass a stimulus package on the order of $1.3 trillion to get us out of Bush's recession. Unfortunately, due to Obama and the Democrats' negotiating strategy of starting negotiations in the middle, and Republicans'usual recalcitrance, it ended up being around $770 billion.
Enough to help, but not enough to give the jumpstart the economy needed, and so we just limped along with very slow, tortuous growth over the next few years. Which is why, despite the economy growing, and eventually at a pretty decent pace, so many people still say Obama's economy sucked. Because many of them barely saw the gains from that economy.
But Wall Street did really well.
If you say you want to make people's lives better, then enact policies that make people's lives better. Not just Wall Street's. And don't let Republicans gut that policy based on whatever their objection of the day is. Cause they're gonna object, no matter what you do. Might as well go big.
