Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

See, in Portsmouth, we don't have mass transit to worry about and we only have 128 traffic during the summer when everybody escapes Mass.

Back to the hockey now, hope you get a new rink and a decent concession stand to go with it!

What?! You have a complaint about the pizza at the JAR?

Ha, I can't comment on something I refused to eat although the hot dogs looked good.

I make it a point to eat at Shake Shack in Harvard Square before heading to the JAR.

What happened to our Power Play, which has been horrid in the second half? Not a good way to finish up the regular season, after doing so well against the western teams this year.

I guess that ties are almost always better than losses, but hoping that the Falcons did not peak too early this season. First round bye now in jeopardy, and Sacred Heart will be looking to even up the series in their barn on Thursday, after a dominating 5- 0 win against Holy Cross last night. Bentley's one PPG was negated by the SHG that they gave up a minute earlier. Falcons need to finish the regular season on a strong note.

Actually Bentley already has at least the 4 seed locked up. They go into this weekend with a quarterfinals home series already secure. The question is who they play. If they finish as the #4 seed, they would most likely play RIT. As it stands right now, they could be looking at either Air Force or Holy Cross in the quarterfinals.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

I just went through all the playoff permutations and combinations in my head. There is so much parity in this league that there is no team that I'm hoping to match up against in the second round. Every single one of them can cause heartburn.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

Oops, thanks, Dan. I thought that only the top three teams got the bye with the reduction to 11 teams this year, but now I see that it is five.

I agree, schiegs, any team can win on any night, and several different teams have knocked us out of the post-season the past decade.

Good that we have an extra week to work on our power play.

Here is the playoff scenario for Bentley - should they lose out and RIT wins out, they will actually finish in 5th spot but still receive a bye (depending on what happens with Mercyhurst and Canisius of course and assuming the two of them make it through to the second round for a home series).

If Bentley and RIT finish tied, they actually have to go to a third tiebreaker scenario. The first tiebreaker is head-to-head, which they split. The second tiebreaker is conference wins, which would both be at 14. The third tiebreaker is goal differential in head-to-head contests, which has RIT leading by +1. RIT beat Bentley 5-2, while Bentley beat RIT 2-1.

So while the seeding isn't for certain, Bentley needs a tie against SHU or Holy Cross OR an RIT tie or loss at any point during the weekend. The only way RIT can pass Bentley is with a Falcons sweep loss and a Tigers sweep win.....and the right outcomes of Canisius and Mercyhurst's games.

Only three things are certain right now - RMU is the #1 seed and Army is heading to Sacred Heart for the 8-vs-9 matchup.

Everything else is up for grabs. It's amazing.

Tough games against Army. Hopefully PP gets some work this week.

Hoops teams are finished. Should bode well for Saturday night's finale at the JAR.

Should be a good student turn out for Seniors' Night, as word is that there will be lots of free swag. I am really glad that the AHA scheduled again arch rival Holy Cross for our finale; always a tough opponent, no matter what kind of season either team is having. Falcons are running a seven-game unbeaten streak, so extending to nine would a fine way to finish the regular season.

I remember hearing talk that senior night was going to be early in the season to avoid the distractions at the end of the season... Appears that it will was on the usual last home game. Should be a big crowd, senior night last year was huge and they're giving away free jerseys among other free swag. Unfortunately once again our playoff series will fall over Bentley's spring break, so unless we go to a game three, our crowd won't be huge...

A perennial problem with spring break schedule, TTS, but good that there will be a boisterous Falcon crowd this Saturday night. It is always cool when our seniors' parents participate by joining their sons on the ice before the game begins, especially after all those years of early morning transport to the local rink.

Backing in to the playoffs with a weak finish is not good.

Wheels have fallen off the wagon; PP is abominable, going 0 for 9 and giving up two shorties against Sacred Heart. May get lucky and host Air Force at the JAR in two weeks. Hate to say it, but the way our Falcons are playing of late, I do not see them getting to Rochester this year.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

It is sad to say but last year seem to be the best opportunity for making it to Rochester. I really am lost at the decline in the production of the 1st line. Not sure what happen this year as one would think that the seniors could of continued the point production in years past. Coach needs a strong freshman class and it goes without saying he needs to find another diamond in the rough! Good Luck to the seniors as you will have a great diploma that will help you get a job and move on to your next challenge.
