Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

Fliers posted around campus that buses leaving at 6:15 pm for the JAR on Friday, with a chance to win $5000 at the first intermission.

One of those things where you have to slide the puck through a slot only slightly larger, with a shot from the opposite blue line???

Yikes, I thought that the "went to the fights and then a hockey game broke out" were behind us for this season. But, good to get the two points. Also, Holy Cross took a point from Mercyhurst to help close that gap. Need the sweep on Saturday night.

Yeah last night was chippy. We looked really rough for the first period but gutted it out in the end. Another huge 2 points tonight necessary to keep up in the standings.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

Well, missed opportunity, as Sacred Heart upset Mercyhurst tonight.

Were Switzer, Weinstein, and Argue hurt or sick?

Indeed; now need the sweep to gain more against western teams.

With reluctance, I reply to my own post, as the second game this weekend was maybe Bentley's greatest comeback effort ever, with four unanswered goals, including the game winner with 15 seconds remaining. Moreover, the sweep against an always tough Lakers team in their own barn keeps Bentley in a potential bye for the first round of the playoffs. All of Bentley's remaining games are against eastern teams, so the Falcons have a fine opportunity to maintain their third place or better in the regular season standings.

Great comeback last night although from my perspective I was hoping you'd split on the weekend. You're setup nicely for a first round bye. Hope to see more Bentley fans posting on this board. Not sure why the other AHA schools don't have a fan following here. Nonetheless best of luck the rest of the way.

I would agree, except that Bentley has a better record vs. western teams; 8-4-1 vs. 3-3-1 if my math is correct.

I think that your math is correct, schiegs. Losses to Sacred Heart (6-3), Holy Cross (2-1), and Army (2-1), and the tie with AIC (4-4), are the reason that we are not in first place right now. But, the western teams play each other in a bunch of games from here out, so opportunity knocks.

We've had one hell of an up and down season. Giving Niagara their first win of the season, getting swamped by sacred heart AND losing to Army are unacceptable to be the best. Yet we go 3-0-1 vs. Mercyhurst and split with Bobby Mo. The potential this team has is incredible, we've just got to get hot at the right time and last weekend was a great start for that!

I was going to post something on the AHA Pick 'Em thread, but I see that you already admitted there the error of your ways. Same thing happened to me when I picked against the Falcons the first time last year. But, I looked at it as a win-win situation. The Falcons need to re-establish their PP, and stay out the box to avoid their own PK, which is not that great. Would be really cool if they could run the table for a 20-win regular season, but the other eastern teams are not about to allow that to happen.

Thanks for posting here, Downstate. Yeah, there are three of us Bentley posters on the thread this year, which is probably a good thing, as some of the others do not usually post until things go south.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

Did the players from both teams circle tonight's game on their calendars? I've always considered HC to be the closest thing to a rivalry we have, but not sure it rises to that level. In my opinion, a rivalry requires all BOTH sides consider it that way, and I've never known whether or not HC sees Bentley as a rival? And if not Bentley, who DOES HC see as a rival? Given their geographic location, school profile, and current standings in AH, it all seems to make sense. I guess I just wonder if it is reciprocated in Worcester.

Oh, yeah; huge rivals. I go to a lot of games at Hart Rink, where I have observed the rivalry to be intense at all levels, all the way back to MAAC days. Next closest Falcons rival was Quinnipiac, before they left for ECAC. Although student profiles are extremely different, both are basketball schools (Bob Cousy went to Holy Cross). Sadly, I cannot make either game this weekend, but will be streaming radio feed.

EDIT: nice come-from-behind 4-3 win tonight, with goals and assists coming from not the usual suspects. Bobby Mo is 10 points ahead in AHA standings, but next six slots are separated by less than four points.

120 minutes of hockey this weekend. That's has been the Achilles heel of this team; playing the entire 60 minutes all out. It's very encouraging to see a come from behind win, followed by a late goal to seal the sweep.

Nice four-game win streak for the Falcons against two tough opponents. Four of their last five games are against Army and Sacred Heart. Although these two teams are near the bottom of the conference again this season, Sacred Heart just swept Air Force this weekend, and Army always plays tough against the Falcons. And, the final game of the regular season is against Holy Cross, which will be looking to even up that series. That said, it would be really cool if Bentley could run the table for 20 regular season wins.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2014-2015: If You Build It, They Will Come

I'm curious if/how the addition of Arizona State hockey and the rumored discontent ND has with HE will effect Bentley? These things tend to line up like dominoes.

Does ND leave HE and join ASU in joining NCHC? Who does HE then get to keep their numbers even? Does that team come from ECAC? QU? Does ECAC then seek out a new member?

Bentley has very quietly become one of the biggest spenders in AHA on scholarships, being at (or 1 short of?) the league maximum now. And if a new arena comes to fruition (which is looking possible), I would think that makes Bentley an attractive idea to ECAC. Speculation on my part, but might be something to think about given any pending shifts in conference alignements.

There is a link on the UNH thread about Notre Dame discontent and departure from HEA rumors. One idea noted there would be Quinnipiac replacing ND in HEA, with RPI, Holy Cross, or perhaps URI, if they upgrade their club team, as other options. I do not think that Bentley will be going to another conference without an on-campus rink, which is pie in the sky at this point. Given that reality, several other AHA teams would be more likely candidates to replace QU should they join HEA, such as Holy Cross, Bobby Mo, RIT, Canisius, Mercyhurst, or Niagara, which all have on-campus rinks. In any case, even numbers within conferences sure make scheduling easier, so 10 teams would be better than 11 for the AHA.

With talk now starting up again about potential league realignments, it would be a great time to announce a new on campus rink. cmon!
