BC Women's Hockey 2024-2025: Embrace The Chaos

Thank God BC got the win yesterday. I thought PC was the better team most of the game especially in the 3rd period. Campbell was tremendous. Does anybody else think BC looks out of shape ? They seem to get tired all the time. Some of their top forwards just look slow. I have talked about this before. Its really becoming a problem IMO. Providence got better as the game went on. BC got worse.

Sorry I disappeared for a while, went on a whirlwind trip around the world and then the next time I logged in the site was down and well, here I am.

Overtime goal was a snipe, so that was nice.

The PC loss wasn't great but they've been red hot -- they were 7-0-0 in the second half including a sweep of Northeastern. At this point I don't think anything's really changed, we're one of a handful of teams that can win Hockey East and we've been pretty easily handling the bad teams. In any game against the top 4 (and I guess PC now that they're playing well) I like our chances to win and also to lose.

Would be nice to get top 3 in Hockey East as there's going to be a big difference in having to play #5 vs playing 6-7-8 in the quarterfinal.

BC just lost to Merrimack for the 2nd time in history. This is not a typo.

What a disaster of a weekend. I assume any shot at at large NCAAS are gone. How many times do we have to watch BCWIH collapse in the 2nd half of every season ? Is anyone else sick of it ?

I will come back with some detailed comments tomorrow ( I watched both games) but is there anyway BC can ask either Pellerins dad or Roys dad to take over the coaching role for the rest of the season ? I'm dead serious. They both played in the NHL. We have assistant coaches on the BC bench that aren't qualified to coach at Winthrop high school. Is Blake James even watching this ?

If one is the AD at a Power Four (or whatever they are called these days) program, I wonder how many minutes a month they spend thinking about women's sports, let alone ice hockey. Sady, it likely isn't many. They probably show up for photo opps like trophy presentations, and the rest of the time, they'd rather not be bothered. If the coach has a contract coming up for renewal, then they might pause for a minute to consider whether the coach will need to be fired during the next contract and if they could save some $$ by dumping the coach now.

If Blake James isn't giving serious time to evaluating the state of BCWIH than I don't know what to say. This program continue to be a national embarrassment. The laughingstock of NCAA womens hockey. It looks like another 4th place finish (lets hope) in Hockey East which is completely unacceptable. They continue to find a way to lose every big game they play in. They get completely outcoached in every big game they play in. Their D has been absolutely horrendous since the break and I blame this all on the coaching. Their D run around like chickens with their heads cut off and have no responsibility for playing proper defense. I call these type of defenseman minus players. who is coaching these players ? why is no one getting better ?

The team is completely out of shape. I say this every year. Why are BC teams always out of shape ? Some of the upper class forwards are playing in slow motion. One of their captains looks like she is skating in quick sand. Kinger kept rolling 2 lines for the entire 3rd period against Merrimack and it really cost them because BC really ran out of gas in the 3rd.

The goaltending has been great all year but hasn't been too good lately and wow does BC get exposed.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Well I'm sorry BCWIH fans but this is insanity. Its time to blow it up. Blow up the whole thing and lets rebuild it. If we have the right person in charge we will quickly become a national power again and we will start competing for national championships every single year.

Its time

"National embarrassment and laughingstock of women's hockey" is a bit much, we've been above .500 every season but one (2009-10, when we lost 3 players to the Olympics) in the last 20 years. Even if "above .500" is not what we're aiming for, calling us a national embarrassment and laughingstock is really unnecessary and is the sort of thing that takes away from your argument.

But yeah, I'm sad and I'm disappointed. Maybe half the team is sick; it's happened before. This weekend was so out of character. But, this is also starting to look like the same disappointing limp to the finish line that we saw last year and it hurts :(

OK- fair. "National embarrassment" is a little much but the total collapse of the BC women's ice hockey program is the talk of college hockey. It is hard to believe that we could fall this far this fast. And unfortunately no end in site. I am so mad about this. Should never have happened. This is Boston College folks. We lost to Holy Cross 2X and Merrimack.

You still confident in Kinger and the rebuild @TonyTheTiger20 ? I know Kinger is your buddy but at some point you need to acknowledge what I have been writing about for the last 2 years. This is not normal. This is not ok because its women's hockey. We need a change

As fans, we don't always know what players are dealing with. Years back, UM had a future Olympian D who would attempt to pass the puck and and she'd almost whiff on it, which seemed like a big drop from her early years. Then I'd see her after the game and she had either ice bags on both wrists or she was wearing plastic casts on them. Other times, players would appear tired, and you'd learn they had mono (now it could be Covid or RSV), and they were having a hard time getting their stamina back. Others were dealing with serious illnesses or deaths of family members. A flu bug going through a locker room can't be an excuse, but it's definitely a factor. None of them are robots.

sorry @ARM but this has been going on for 6-7 straight years at BC. This has nothing to do with injuries or illness. The program continues to head in the wrong direction and something needs to be done about it

Just another ho hum disaster of a loss for BCWIH last night to a 21 loss Vermont team that we had beaten 7-1 2 nights before! How does this continue to happen ?

the losses we have had against UVM Holy Cross and Merrimack are not just embarrassing but they have just destroyed any chance we had to get an at large bid for the NCAA tournament.

We are now holding on for dear life to not fall to the 5 seed which again is really hard to believe considering we were hanging around first place for most of the first half of the season.

the teams that start to play well in the 2nd half of the season usually have strong coaching and the teams that start to play their worst hockey in the 2nd half of the season usually have poor coaching. Does anyone want to take a guess at what BCWIH has ? We've been watching this movie for 6-7 years now.

where are you Mr. Blake James ?

I can't lie. It's disappointing. It does feel like we're in the midst of a second half fade very similar to last season.

Gotta hold out hope for the playoffs though; I ain't quit on them yet. My plan at the moment is to go to the quarterfinals if it's Saturday afternoon 3/1 (regardless of location if the weather is good, at UConn or PC if weather isn't good enough to fly), then the semifinals if it's at UConn. Unfortunately I can't make it to the final as I'll be out west and I'll be pretty bummed to miss it if we make it that far.

Maybe bc should go the route of moral victories like the tunnelers. So today's moral victory is that it took overtime for Northleastern to be able to beat you...Plus you held them under 50 shots for the game. Nice.

Yes I went to the game today. Don't ask me why I went because we all knew what was going to happen.

Its hard to believe we could go up 2-0 only 3 minutes into the game this important and then find a way to lose. AGAIN. I'm afraid to look at the standings but I'm sure we are staring at 5th place and hosting a first round playoff game. Talk about embarrassing

My thoughts

  1. No one gets out coached and finds ways to lose big games better than Kinger. Its so insane.
  2. Campbell is either exhausted or hurt because she has really been off lately. The first NU goal was just terrible
  3. BC Taking 2 dumb penalties right after you go up 2-0 is really bad. Both 26 and 19 just really bad plays let NU right back in the game
  4. the effort on the BC defenseman on the OT goal was about as bad as I've seen. Just no effort. Lets the NU player get right by her to the net and then stands there as she shoots in her own rebound. The definition of poor defense right there. I know she came in as a top recruit but unfortunately she is quickly becoming a liability in her own end of the ice.
  5. Has anyone seen Blake James ?

Out in the desert so didn't get to watch Game 1 but watched today. HUGE win and super late-game closeout, we really earned that one. That was massive to keep control of our own destiny for the 3 seed, which is a big deal given the difference between playing 5th (PC or NU) or 6th (someone way worse).

Pellerin is so good. She is so talented but she skates so hard too.

Great win, that.

Yup. I cant be on here bashing kinger all the time gotta give credit where credit is due and that was one hell of an effort on Northeastern senior night. Need to get it done next weekend. 5th place would be a disaster

Holy crap well that's one way to clinch a 3 seed alol... We played great (despite missing 5 separate shots at the empty net lol) and Providence's absolute meltdown in the 3rd period means that tomorrow's game is dead rubber. Callaway should start and the bottom lines should get 55 of the 60 minutes of the game.

NICE WORK EAGLES LET'S GO.

See you all up at Conte next week.

I watched. The fact that we need to celebrate a 3rd place finish in such a weak conference kind of speaks for itself but when you're looking at a possible 5th place finish a week ago I guess its good news. Correct me if I'm wrong but this has to BCs highest finish in Hockey East in quite a while - don't get me going please :)

Yes hard to evaluate such a meaningless game but I do have some concerns.

The defense looks brutal. Just god awful trying to handle the puck under any pressure. Thank god UNH stinks because there were a TON of turnovers. Why are we all of a sudden giving all this ice time to 2 freshman who have hardly played all year ? What happened to #12 and # 6 ? I think its pretty obvious that neither freshman is ready to play at this level. I understand that one of them is Kingers Olympic buddy but who is running the defense here ? Wake up coach its playoff time !

The BC power play is the most predictable in the league. Any good coach can defend what they do. Nothing ever changes. Pathetic. They better fix it quick and come up with some new looks. Its called coaching.
