BC Women's Hockey '14-'15: #SOAR

Re: BC Women's Hockey '14-'15: #SOAR

I don't think it is quite as easy as "a couple of practices" to transition from 16U to D1 college hockey. Katie does have the 2013-14 U18 team experience, the USA festival this month, and surely another year as the U18 goaltender - that will definitely help get her prepared. Being close to home will also make it a much easier adjusting to college and having a support network close. Her family seems great, I had the pleasure of having a few drinks poolside last year with mom and some other team parents; they are very proud and supportive. Being a fellow goalie parent I give them credit for making the leap, and wish Katie the best of luck.

In response to the "chuckle" over Keller being so highly touted:
While I would a little more reserved before naming her the best ever, after watching her play over the last five years and with my own daughter for 81 games last year - she is the best female defenseman I have ever watched in the 19U game. I have had the oppurtunity to watch many of the others mentioned. They are all great defense, but Megan stands out as the best of the incoming class. She led the World Championships in Budapest in +/-, is tall with an exceptional reach, smart, and strong. BC fans should be very excited to have her.
Hopefully over the next four years our daughters will have a chance to play each other, and I can meet a few of the fellow forum posters.

I'm sure BC fans will be excited with their recruits and they should be as fans of the team. But come on now..."stands out as the best of the incoming class (defenseman)? And including+/- stats from a tournament to bolster that statement?

I'll back up Ms. Keller. My daughter played with her at Honeybaked last year. She is a huge GET for BC! Incredibly smooth with the puck, great hands, cannon of shot and a terrific skater. She rarely gets beat....ever. The best thing about Megan is she is a great kid with great parents.

I don't take any issue with what you say here at all. BC is getting an elite player in Megan Keller. I'm in the camp that is just a little less sure than some of the posters on here of Keller's pre-determined "best of" or "stands out as the best" status in regards to other defensemen in the 2014/2015 class.

Well lets put it this way......at nationals she was clearly the best defensemen there.....including the girls from Shattuck, Assabet and the Mission. No question. I can't compare her to any of the Canadian girls but in the US....best I saw.

Wasn't it you who thought Meghan Dufault was the best women's hockey player you had seen play besides the Lamoureax twins? Just for perspective...

It was at that time. She is still a great player. I am saying Keller is the best defensemen I have seen out of this years group of girls.

Glad you could make it to all the games.

I missed her in the finals - was she there?

Nothing incredible about it... It's called "standard operating procedure" around here.

Apologies to the BC faithful for hi-jacking the thread. I think it is safe to say, without the hyperbole, that Megan Keller will be a valuable asset for the Eagles in the coming years and it will be interesting to see how her game develops at the D1 college level, as well as the international level.

It's discussion of a future BC player; I don't think it was hijacked at all. I've been enjoying checking in on the conversation all day.

Me too, especially having seen Kali Flanagan in action at the Beantown Classic: the idea that we have someone coming in who may be even better than her is thrilling.

Re: BC Women's Hockey '14-'15: #SOAR

U must be joking, right ??
What's wrong with what he said? His point was that he went to the Beantown Classic and saw Flanagan playing, thought she was exceptional, and has not seen the other incoming recruits so if they are even better than she is, then he is excited.

Great to see Corinne Boyles and Blake Bolden made this festival. Bolden really was ripped off, in my opinion Blake is the 2nd best Defense women in the country behind Megan Bozek. Its annoying how Katie Stone picks her own players before real talent.

I think Miss Bolden's history of playing "aggressively" hurt her chances leading up to last year's camp. However, she was much more disciplined during the second half of her senior year, and I understand that extended into her play with the Blades last season. I expect we will see her in the mix for Korea.
