BC Women's Hockey '14-'15: #SOAR

Re: BC Women's Hockey '14-'15: #SOAR

Other than the odd exception, I think the skill of the top end players today is also better than that of 15 years ago, not by leaps or bounds but improved for sure. The level and in-depth training has most of these athletes much more conditioned and fine tuned. 15 years ago the top end players were on average facing lesser competition, and as a result had more time and space to do their thing. Give a top player a little more time and space, and watch out. With the narrowing of the gap in skill level, it is much harder to be a single force like you saw 15 years ago. JMO.

I truly believe goaltending is significantly more schooled than 15 years ago. Which makes it a hugh difference for the out skaters, much more difficult to score.

Harvard would love a Ruggerio right now, but probably the biggest difference from now and then is goaltending.

I agree with that. So many of the elite players from that era grew up playing with boys and developed against competition that wasn't lesser. I've had coaches tell me that they think there are fewer elite players now, because there aren't as many youth players competing against boys for as long. I don't know that I agree with them or you on that front. Special players were special then and continue to be so now.

There are still top players playing with boys for a long time. Poulin for example played with boys all the way until Midget Espoir. Wakefield is another one that played with boys all the way until major Bantam. Rattray also played with Boys until she was a senior Bantam player.

Mostly I'm getting tired of you b****ing that your daughter isn't playing
.

Wow Too soon I guess TTT....If you were to take off your tear stained rose colored glasses you would clearly see that none of my comments have ever mentioned of what you speak. In fact I kinda take offense. My point has been clearly stated and has nothing to do with anyone's playing time...

the skill of the average player is much better than it was 10-15 years ago

as late as 2003 there were still players who could not properly estimate the time it would take them to skate to a puck, they'd miss it because of the angle they took, this was in the WCHA playoffs, so it wasn't simply the bottom teams

WI beat MN by skating 2 lines against 3, they did not tire, a sure sign that there was a large difference between top & bottom players

I may have the wrong year, it was in Rochester, MN

the skill is advancing so fast in women's hockey that you have to improve just to maintain your position

the difference between the top line and 3rd line is getting smaller, 10-15 years ago the 1st line would crush an opponents 3rd line, many 3rd lines today can hold their own if caught against the other teams 3rd line, sue for an entire game they will get burned, but a couple of shifts, it's not a disaster
