Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Reviews were embargoed on Star Wars Episode 7...embargoes in and of themselves mean nothing. (especially in movies where you want no spoilers)

Colliders is a decent show from what I gather (I am not a fan of the guys on it) just dont go buying into any of their rumors or hot takes as they get a lot of it from clickbaiters. They are full on fanboys though and have a passion for the genre so I respect that.

From what I can gather about Jungle Book it is amazing visually but the story is just the same as the cartoon. I am sure Favs did a great job though...no way this sucks like Cowboys vs. Aliens :)

Star Wars was a rare case though. Just about every other movie does early screenings and lifts the embargo to get buzz going. Marvel obviously wants critics to join the hype machine. If executives doubted the film they wouldn't do that.

Collider is not for everyone but they are still small enough to respond to fan input. If they get big, fan voices will get drowned out. They are huge fanboys and readily mock themselves as nerds, but they certainly have passion and knowledge.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Yeah I know a lot of people who love Colliders (and a few other shows like that) and it just isnt my cup of tea. It is like watching/listening to the message boards (hell some of them are message board junkies) and I can barely tolerate them ;) I would also say I am not really their target audience because while I have my preferences I dont really care about the fanboy battles (it is become sports team level annoying these days) or things that dont interest me. I like what I like and I am happy with that. (and I also am happy when people enjoy what they enjoy) Same problem I have with Kevin Smith's podcast (even though I tend to like his opinions/takes) I can never really get too into it because when he discusses things I dont care about I tune out.

They changed the story a little. Kaa is more menacing, the monkeys are an actual threat and Khan is justified in his concerns about the man-cub.

When you are watching it is apparently easy to forget that the only thing on the screen that isn't CGI is the kid. That includes the jungle.

So, closer to the book?

Oh, great. The last time I saw Jungle Book in a theater, some 4-year-old kid was crying and screaming every time the cartoon Kaa came on the screen.

(I did calm down after my mom took me out to the lobby, though... :D)

Two documentaries that have been running on some of the movie channels and that I would recommend are: All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records, and National Lampooned: Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead.

Neither are exceptionally well-crafted documentaries. Basically just talking head shots of people who were there, and some archival footage. But for anyone who came of age in the 1960's and 1970's, they bring back a ton of memories. God I miss record stores.

They are making a crossover of 21 Jump Street and MIB.

Why?
The pitchmen got an early start and had the studio exec tuned-in to that once-in-every-420-years event of the planets aligning, creating the green moon on April 20. He was digging their aura, it was just so... green. Green in the bank account and sort of, if you squint just right, in the smoke, too.

I bet the excitement was edible, and while the plot may be a bit sticky they were quite blunt that it needed to be made.

If you have never seen the 1942 live version of The Jungle Book with Sabu, it is worth checking out. It tells the story of Mowgli after he returns to a human village. It is very well done and very much worth the time.

Growing up in Chicago, it was on Family Classics with Frazier Thomas every nine months or so. The photography is dazzling.

Regarding the 21 Jump Street / MiB crossover, it had to be something much more substantial than pot.

Cocaine. A Tony Montana sized pile.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Based on the teaser trailer for Doctor Strange, I'm kinda curious to see how that's gonna turn out visually... I'm hoping that the story allows ILM to cook up something worth the price of an IMAX 3D ticket...

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

I have done 3D twice for a movie...it does zero for me. Complete waste of money. (thankfully I didnt pay ;) )

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

3D can be overrated but IMAX is typically worth it and here you typically don't get the latter without the former. At least a ticket is only about $7 even opening day so I don't mind doing it.

Doesn't work for me (blind in one eye -- yes, the right of course), but I've always thought it would be wonderful (for you people) once they get it right.
