Spy Game:
Cliche-ridden spy movie. Lots of late twists and turns, blah blah blah. Entertaining, but not great.
I like that movie. Thought Redford was great.
I'll agree though. Not award worthy.

It was great; you'll love it.
Crafting A Nation:
Documentary on craft brewers around a nation. Centers on Black Shirt Brewing in CO, but does interview many others including DogfishHead, Sam Adams, Oskar Blues, etc. One thing I found interesting, is that when they touched on Mpls, they interviewed Indeed, Fulton, Harriet, and for a store Four Firkins (movie was released in 2013 or so), AND Mayor Rybak. But no mention of Surly at all. None. They referenced the new taproom laws, but absolutely no mention of the brewery.
Soaked In Bleach:
Documentary that focuses on the Courtney-Love-hired PI that searched for a missing Kurt in the days up to his death and his doubts (among others' doubts) about the suicide conclusion. Very well done, obviously biased towards the murder-theory, but there is some damming evidence, IMO. I've seen other "conspiracy" docs out there regarding this, and this is the most intelligent, thorough, and probably the most neutral regarding facts and sources that I've seen. Well worth the watch.
Have you read the new book, Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements? The author apparently received quite a bit of cooperation from some of the key band members. I have a good friend who is a pretty big Replacements fan and he can't stop talking about the book. I guess it's about 500 pages with small print, so there must be a fair amount of stuff in there.Color Me Obsessed.
So Saturday was Record Store Day, and though I couldn't really afford to spend some cash, I wanted to at least check out the scene. So I headed down to the big city(Portsmouth, NH) to Bullmoose Records, whose owner is the guy who started Record Store Day. And yeah, I was good, I held back from spending money I don't have. Until I hit the music dvd section. And since with my Bullmoose card, I could get it for half-price, it was mine.
A documentary on The Replacements, my favorite band, and as one of those interviewed says, the best band in the world. No music, no pictures of the band, no clips of them performing, just people who were there at the time sharing stories about the band and what they meant to them. Simply AMAZING documentary, of the band, of that point in time, of the Minn-St. Paul music scene. I say again, just amazing. I've gone through 3+ hours of stuff, and have still to watch the bonus features or listen to the audio commentary.
Now it got me right away, as the opening credits scene uses a flyer from the late great Boston club The Channel, which just coincidentally enough, is the place I first saw The Replacements back in 1986. There''s also a ticket stub from Boston's Opera House, where I saw them on the Don't Tell a Soul tour. And an interview with members of the Boston band The Bristols, who I saw open for Joan Jett, and loved.
I cannot say enough how much I loved this film. If you're a Replacements fan, or even an early 80's music scene fan, a must see.

I saw on Gawker (or one of their sites) that a group of people remastered the original film. I'll admit I downloaded it just so I could have a copy where Han shoots first. (Technically, he's the only one who shoots in the original, but alas...)
They did a fantastic job with it. I'd gladly pay for a copy on blu-ray.

On the other hand, I hope they do go back and prosecute the lying sacks of **** who claimed the Liverpool fans were a bunch of drunks in an unruly mob, that they purposely prevented rescue crews from saving lives - in short that they were scum who deserved to die. **** them. Go after the corrupt cops and the piece of dung Tory MP. Sadly they won't be able to prosecute those ******** at The Sun who published and championed that libelous garbage. For those who are fans of the ESPN 30 For 30 movies, a bit of news follow up to the Hillsborough tragedy documented in one of those films.

While the events of that day are no doubt a tragedy, and may possibly have been prevented or lessened through different actions, I fear hindsight will allow the pendulum to swing back too far and result in a witch hunt of prosecutions that may not be warranted.
