Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

I'm guessing they have been losing a fair amount of business to the new crop of high-end theaters that are charging virtually the same amount for an evening show, but offering much more comfortable seating and beer.

So naturally, their solution is to lower their standards and cater to the d!ckweeds who can't put their godd@mn smartphone down for 2 minutes, let alone 2 hours.

So stupid. It probably won't affect me, though, since I rarely see movies in the theater, and if I do, it's at a time when there's most likely to be nobody there. Say, first showing, especially Sunday mornings, at a non-popular theater. For example, saw the new Star Wars a week after it opened, and there were maybe 30 people in the theater. :)

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

They are making a crossover of 21 Jump Street and MIB.

Why?
Blackmail. Somebody has some serious blackmail photos and film. And its something downright nasty, like two girls one cup type of nasty.
Regarding the 21 Jump Street / MiB crossover, it had to be something much more substantial than pot.

Cocaine. A Tony Montana sized pile.
that would have involved in the making of the blackmail.

Only if they get vasectomies to see movies in there. do we really want people that just have to text non-stop to continue to breed??

Straight Outta Compton - Director's Cut.

Watched it with the boy who mostly listens to contemporary rap (A$AP, G-Easy, Fetty etc.) although he loves and appreciates The Chronic and The Chronic 2001 or whatever it was called.

Both of us loved it.

Was amazing watching O'Shea channel his dad. The guys that played Dre and especially E were great too.

One cool scene at the end is where Cube is watching his boys play hoops in the driveway. So the actor playing Cube is watching an actor play himself as the kid who will one day grow up to play his famous father in a movie. :D

That was a really good movie.

Brought back a lot of memories as I remember many of those touchstone events.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, although less detailed, all of the above.

(I also brought this movie over for my parents to see, and they fully enjoyed it).

Movies don't often stick with me even if I thought they were great. Typically, I just get on with my life.

I'm still beaming over how much I liked that. Sounds corny, but I don't know how else to describe.

We watched in the basement which is where the stereo/sub woof setup is and we had that room bouncing. The studio and concert scenes were very well done - both visually and with the audio.

Final thought - it was fun to step back in time to the 90s.

I remember driving around campus with my buddy who was WAY more into NWA etc. bumping Eazy-E's solo album and as I was trying to explain/convey to my kid - that was over-the-top edgy stuff back then. No one had done material like that before and most normal people were quite shocked and appalled by it.

We thought it was great. :D

Now... do I listen to some of it while doing yard work today and peeve my neighbors? :D

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

That first attempt at the line "Cruisin' down the street in my six-fo' " by Eazy had me rolling. :D

As for Eazy's solo album, I remember my basketball team getting hollered at when we busted out the verse that started with "I said 'Lay down, and unbutton your bra!'" ;)

And that's the thing with NWA (and Public Enemy). That sh* was RAW. In your face, sometimes political, etc. PE made rumblings with their line "Elvis was a hero to most but he never meant sh* to me, you see, straight up racist, that sucker was, simple and plain, motherf* him and John Wayne."

Children of Heaven (1997 Iran) - It deals with a brother and sister and their adventures over a lost pair of shoes. Bittersweet, poignant, artful, wonderfully written and acted.

"Most of my heroes don't appear on no stamp." Day-um.

Haven't seen this yet but I will soon. I was way into punk and metal in hs and when I first heard Staight Outta Compton it sounded like the hip hop equivalent to both. Loved it then and still do

Legend:

While Tom Hardy rules, this movie is a bit bloated, and obviously Hollywood-ized. It's ok, but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it. Hardy saves what is worth saving.

Crafting A Nation:

Documentary on craft brewers around a nation. Centers on Black Shirt Brewing in CO, but does interview many others including DogfishHead, Sam Adams, Oskar Blues, etc. One thing I found interesting, is that when they touched on Mpls, they interviewed Indeed, Fulton, Harriet, and for a store Four Firkins (movie was released in 2013 or so), AND Mayor Rybak. But no mention of Surly at all. None. They referenced the new taproom laws, but absolutely no mention of the brewery.

Soaked In Bleach:

Documentary that focuses on the Courtney-Love-hired PI that searched for a missing Kurt in the days up to his death and his doubts (among others' doubts) about the suicide conclusion. Very well done, obviously biased towards the murder-theory, but there is some damming evidence, IMO. I've seen other "conspiracy" docs out there regarding this, and this is the most intelligent, thorough, and probably the most neutral regarding facts and sources that I've seen. Well worth the watch.

Spy Game:

Cliche-ridden spy movie. Lots of late twists and turns, blah blah blah. Entertaining, but not great.
