Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

When I get home tonight, there will be a brand new copy of Star Wars: The Force Awakens waiting at my door stoop. It'll be a good Tuesday.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Still haven't seen it. I need to buy it on Blu Ray.

I also need to buy The Martian and Spectre.

Magnificent Seven / Seven Samurai

Excellent choice. I might lose my art house cred for this, but I find Kurosawa's version tedious.

With that in mind, A Fistful of Dollars is a great remake of Yojimbo, a second example of both being good.

Edit: Brenthoven already nailed this.

Suicide Squad is not going to be anything like a Nolan movie...it is basically The Dirty Dozen with B-List villains. This is a team with a guy named Killer Croc on it ;)

Correct. Although I'm glad somebody else find Nolan pretentious in his big budget dark movies. (Following and Memento are both very dark, but excellent.)

I always find him pretentious...doesnt mean I dont enjoy them though ;)

Have you seen Following? I can't imagine anybody finding that pretentious.

No that is the only one I havent seen. Every other movie he makes though he is all about brow beating you until you not only get his point but you cant see any other point at all. The longer the movie the more the headache bugs me ;)

He is also the director who, once the flaws are pointed out you cant ever not see them again. Me and you have fought over The Dark Knight for years...I loved it so much I saw it way too many times in the theaters. Then one day, years later I watched it on tv again and decided to look up some of the criticisms online. Have not been able to watch the movie since.

The latter is ironic because the more I watch TDK the more I like parts of it (mostly, the Joker; I still loathe Nolan's approving nod to a fascist anti-hero Batman as emblematic of the Dubya era USA).

I believe you would like Following. His more talented brother wrote it, and it's quirky and interesting. Don't read any encapsulations, though -- it's not the same if you have foreknowledge.

I just happened across that on the NPR site. Whatever they did, in terms of the special effects team, it's amazing how closely the woman playing Mon Mothma looks like the original actress from RotJ sans wrinkles.

Also, it looks like it's going to be a fun, if uncomplicated, movie.

Uncomplicated is a good thing when it comes to SW.

We will see...I have trepidations about the entire idea of this film. Hard to judge based on a teaser but I am glad I didnt hate it :)

I liked the idea of Rogue One from the start, it has great potential for a condensed, single objective story. The other movies like the Han Solo project, or the possible Boba Fett movie, those give me great pause.

This looks like it will be fun!

No pressure of living up to the past by having a kenobi or skywalker and no need (this time) for the eye candy of a light saber duel.

The drawback is these characters will most likely not be seen again except maybe in more stand alone movies

And now that I think of this further... The emperor and Vader could be in this movie at some point, maybe the end?

I have zero trepidations. Looking very forward to this one. Almost moreso than the new trilogy.

This.

And Solo... I believe that Vader is in this movie although I've heard from a cameo to a decent sized role. We'll see.

Like I said we will see. Of the "Star Wars Universe" films it is the one that is the least worthless and annoying ;)

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

...so I'm a Star Wars nerd I guess...

Forest Whitaker asks the protagonist "what will you become?" In reference to her continuing to fight apparently...

Will she turn? Is she...Captain Phasma?

The saga is replete with turns like this
