Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

I'll have to watch the second Suicide Squad trailer later. I was disinterested in the movie when I saw the first trailer. And still not interested when I re-watched the trailer.

Along those same lines, I was completely turned off to the Ghostbusters remake trailer. Until I saw a fan edit that cut the trailer run time down a minute, and made it feel more interesting. Maybe I just need someone to cut down Suicide Squad into a better trailer.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Suicide Squad is reportedly going through a Deadpool rewrite and reshoots. After the huge success of Deadpool, and so many people blasting BvS for its "lack of fun," WB decided that they needed to artificially add some of what Deadpool managed to do organically. Yeah, because adding in scenes like that a couple months before release always makes for a good experience.

No it isnt and no they arent. They are filming some scenes with one of the actors (the guy playing Killer Croc) who had scheduling conflicts due to other movies. (they are filming at Paramount Studios right now) It has nothing to do with adding humor or "Deadpooling it up" since the reshoots were scheduled in January. Ayer isnt changing his story and WB isnt making him. (nor would they, he didnt direct BvS and he is on record talking about how funny Suicide Squad is going back to last Comic Con)

The Hollywood clickbait sites are almost as bad as political ones now.

edit: Ghostbusters looks horrible...and that sucks cause I like almost everyone involved in it.

What looks horrible? I'm very excited about it. Preview before Batman/Superman looked fantastic.

It doesnt look funny at all...in fact it looks the opposite of funny. Christ even the "sliming" joke looks terrible because they completely overdo it. We will see but that trailer was underwhelming both times I saw it. (the original cut and the theatrical one)

To that end, everybody but Scooby will agree.

Hopefully it's just a really horrible trailer cut and it's not reflective of the movie itself. Production companies contract out the creation of the trailers, so that could be the cause.

It's probably just a really bad movie.

I hope it is just the trailer cause I so want the movie to be awesome!

I don't. I'm sick of remakes. This is up there with Total Recall, Red Dawn, and Point Blank for movies that least need to be remade.

No idea on the merits of the SS story, but generally speaking clickbait sites for stuff I know well, like politics and sports, are laughably misleading and alarmist. I guess they are the new tabloids.

It would be nice to be able to customize your search results to exclude certain websites. Yes, I know, that's the concept behind Echo Chamber / Christianist search engines, but I'd love to just be able to nuke garbage sites.

Likewise, I wish Apple TV, Netflix, etc had a "exclude stupid movies" option. I'm really sick of "people who liked Lawrence of Arabia also liked 300." No. No, they didn't.

List of remakes that were any good:

1. Bogart 1941 version of "The Maltese Falcon" remake of 1931 Richard Cortez comic version.
2. John Carpenter 1982 version of the also excellent Howard Hawks 1951 version of The Thing. <-- the only original/remake combo in history where both are good
3. 1939 Wizard of Oz, remade from several earlier versions.
4. 2001 Oceans 11 remake of dull ratpack 1960 one.
5. Um... I can't really think of any others.

Well on a Comics board I read we have become quite adept at predicting the rumors and who is going to perpetuate them. Kind of fun to watch :)

The best was when an out of work scriptwriter in LA penned 2 fake scripts for BvS, fake watermarked them and had people he knew give them to two of the biggest known clickbaiters out there. For weeks these guys dropped "inside info" and basked in the glory of their greatness. The guy of course put in ways to prove they were his (including obvious misspellings and a other tells) and went public a month later telling how he trolled them One guy admitted he fell for it and the other tried to act like his script was different and it was legit. (even though Lois Lane was apparently regendered to Louis ;) ) The guy put his scripts online for the world to read and the clikcbaiter then threatened him on twitter :D

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

I'm trying to figure what makes SS so appealing. Meh

Magnificent Seven / Seven Samurai.

And the Hollywood version of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo wasn't bad per se; it was just unnecessary.

The trailer makes it looks like a blend of the "90s superhero cheese" of my youth and the "oh so pretentiously dark and serious" Nolan style of the modern era. I see it as a potentially satisfying popcorn flick, nothing more.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Suicide Squad is not going to be anything like a Nolan movie...it is basically The Dirty Dozen with B-List villains. This is a team with a guy named Killer Croc on it ;)

Fistful Of Dollars/Yojimbo

Gone In 60 Seconds got more hate than it should have.

True Grit remake was ok, the original was awesome.

The Departed/Infernal Affairs

There are others that I don't recall off the top of my head. GPL was discussing this topic not too long ago.

Exam:

8 candidates for a prestigious job at a bio-tech firm must pass one final exam. The only question is, what exactly is the exam?

Great movie that really messes with your head. Get ready for a fun ride into human behavior and mindsets. And pay attention, kids. You can solve the movie before the ending if you really pay attention.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

The True Grit remake was horrible. Long and boring with wasted efforts by some great actors using some terrible accents. I dont know what they were thinking but whatever it was they thought too hard about it and forgot how to make a movie that is enjoyable...

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

The new 3:10 to Yuma was decent.

Forgot about that one, yes, I liked that one quite a bit.

Looking at the GPL thread:

Scarface (1932/1983)
Charlie And The Chocolate Factory/Willy Wonka, although they are vastly different takes on the same novel
The Thing
The Italian Job

And Battle Royale/Hunger Games. ;) (not a remake, per say, but more of a ripoff)
