At least seven killed at Fort Hood

Re: At least seven killed at Fort Hood

I bet he hopes just as strongly as you do that we prevent another such event from happening. Your rhetoric may differ, but the goal is the same.

My $0.02

I'm afraid that one went sailed over my head into the net behind the cage. "Dr." Hasan and I both want to preclude any future Islamist attacks on Army bases? Please explain, because I'm not getting it. What evidence can you possibly offer that his goal is to avoid additional attacks?

I think he meant you and Exile

Re: At least seven killed at Fort Hood

Perhaps, but wouldn't his actions be a huge waste of a valuable asset?

If I were his control, it's not the way I'd want to use him. I think you are right.

And it occurs to me we're going to be in for a real treat when and if he's court martialed. Because we'll give this monster a platform to spout more of his jihadi nonsense.

Are the transcripts of courts martial confidential?

I don't think so. On the other hand, the UCMJ may have some potential exceptions for "national security" and such. But I'm not sure. No cameras in the court room. But over the years I've seen/heard/read coverage from various courts martials. There's very little liklihood, IMO, that "Dr." would pass up the opportunity, given that the verdict is pretty well certain.

So let's assume "Dr." Hasan is convicted and condemned. Since the military hasn't executed anyone in nearly half a century, what would be the point?
He'd only become a celebrity, probably invited to give audio commencement addresses (like cop killer Mumia Abu Jamal). Certainly a hero in the eyes many, see Sirhan Sirhan, Jonathon Pollard and El Magrahi. Somehow I don't find that to be a very appealing outcome.

Re: At least seven killed at Fort Hood

I would have to imagine if a card said "soldier of Christ" for anybody except maybe a chaplain that there would be a problem.

Re: At least seven killed at Fort Hood

unbelievable that a US Army officer could state that Sharia law is above the law of the United States. unbelievable.

I don't agree with him either, but it's completely believable. Change "Sharia Law" to "God's Law" and many Christians would say the same. The right way out of that conundrum is to not take an oath against your values, but many believers are hypocritical when they pledge:

I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion;

because if it ever comes down to Jesus vs Uncle Sam, salvation is worth a stay in the brig.

Not many spray lead, thankfully, because in the West it's been 400 years since hearing voices in your head from The Lord was considered an acceptable reason for murder.

just not true.

Yes, but more than just an officer. A mustang who had spent several years enlisted. Sent to Virginia Tech by the Army. Trained to be an officer by the Army. Trained to be a physician by the Army. Trained to be a psychiatrist by the Army. And at the end of the day, all of that was dust in the wind.

Of all of the lame brained explanations offered up in defense of this monster, the "he's been abused about his religion" is the most manifestly ridiculous. As I understand it, the keying of his car and removal of a pro-Muslim bumper sticker was done off base. And I'll leave it up to anyone who's ever served:
What happens to you when you smart off to an officer, about anything, ever?

Ah, it's good to see moral equivalency is alive and well. Speaking only for myself, I prefer to be concerned about actual religious murderers than hypothetical ones. And if in our military we'd had crazy Jews killing Catholics, rampaging Catholics gunning down Baptists, and deranged Baptists shooting everyone else, then perhaps I'd agree with you. Otherwise, we're talking about another of your clever, but ultimately pointless arguments.
