And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

So torn. I want to know a crapload, but I don't want to see full scenes, plot points, etc. Same as Dark Knight. I wish I never saw the first few minutes on the previews/leaks. Took away the drama of the Joker unveiling himself in the bank scene. I'm really trying to stay to the TV trailers (when they happen) and official theatrical trailers....

Avoid the trailer then...the prologue is basically just one long scene that is more cool in its execution than amazing in plot.

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

I was gonna do this...so glad you found it! :)

Though this does ruin my idea of starting a new thread called "Bane Must Break You: Rise of the Dark Knight" :(

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

Saw a trailer (possibly later than most) the other night played during some network show. Had a pretty good look at Bane and perhaps predicting that he does indeed break the bat (of which I only about by reading here). I really know nothing about the comic books at all, but given this is I believe the last Nolan bat movie, was there not a recovery by Batman in the series after this occurred? If there was does that suggest there would be another movie but by another director? Sorry if that sounds retarded but I am a complete novice on the subject.

[edit] btw, even being the novice that I am I thoroughly enjoyed the first two and anticipate the 3rd as much as I have any summer movie in a while. I am not an opening night type (probably due to having a wife that couldn't give a rip and two boys that aren't quite old enough to bring) but I do want to see this in a theater and hopefull in IMAX or whatever.

In the original story Bruce Wayne retires 9after recovering) as Batman and a new character named Azrael takes over. He goes bat bleep crazy. Bruce then comes out of retirement and defeats him. It was a year long story line that is very Robin centric.

My guess is that while Bane breaks the Bat in this movie it is not to the extent that it happens in the comic. The recovery time is not as long and even though he is still gimpy Batman fights Bane in the end figuring he will die or be willing to for any shot at beating him.

Now the question is how does it end? I still think the odds are against him dying but I still don't know for sure. There is a lot of cryptic things in the trailers that hint at it but at the same time I am not sure WB would allow Batman to die even if the franchise will be rebooted in a few years. (post Justice League) I also dont know that they would say no to Nolan in his vision for the film no matter where it goes.

Rottentomatoes.com has a press release saying they had to suspend comments on the Dark Knight Rises because death threats are going out against people giving it bad reviews (84% Fresh, last I heard).

The Dark Knight Rises Breaking Records

So the London BFI IMax put out this press release:

The Dark Knight Rises takes £1 million in advance booking at BFI IMAX, breaking all previous sales records
Over 60,000 tickets bought and 43 shows sold out so far 18 July 2012 – London’s BFI IMAX cinema announces today that it has now sold 62,300 tickets for The Dark Knight Rises – The IMAX Experience, grossing £1,001,300, two days ahead of the film’s opening this Friday 20 July.
Since tickets went on sale five weeks ago, thousands of Batman fans have been snapping them up to ensure they see the film in the best possible way – on Britain’s biggest screen.
The figures for both the advance box office gross and the number of tickets sold have beaten the cinema’s previous best-ever advance sales, which were for Avatar in December 2009 (£607,000 sales for 47,000 tickets).
The Dark Knight Rises also broke BFI IMAX records for highest first day sales ever (24,754 tickets grossing £409,838) and the highest first week sales ever (38,658 tickets grossing £634,013). Both these records were previously held by Prometheus.
43 shows are now sold out, including screenings for early birds at 04.25 and 04.55 this weekend.
Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ The Dark Knight Rises is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.
Nolan is utilising IMAX cameras even more extensively than he did on The Dark Knight, which had marked the first time ever that a major feature film was partially shot with IMAX cameras. Over an hour of the footage from the film is in IMAX format, with the image filling the giant screen.
Dennis Laws, General and Technical Manager, BFI IMAX comments: “These figures prove that seeing The Dark Knight Rises in IMAX, to truly experience Christopher Nolan’s incredible vision for the film, is an unmissable event this summer. People are even flying in from abroad especially to see the film at BFI IMAX. We want as many people as possible to be able to see it, so we’re already adding extra shows to meet the demand.” Tickets can be bought online at www.bfi.org.uk/imax or from the box office Tel: 020 7199 6000. This week it was announced that in a new concession agreement ODEON will take on a range of services from the BFI for BFI IMAX. From 19July 2012 tickets will be available via www.odeon.co.uk or Tel: 0330 333 7878.

That is crazy...

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

I dont normally read reviews, but on movies like this I do tend to look at what certain sites think. IGN Gives TDKR 9 out of 10

Kepler should like that this movie is closer to Batman Begins than it is to the Dark Knight seeing as he hates that movie ;)

There is no way in H E Double Hockey Sticks that this movie will be better than Dark Knight. No way.

Re: And the new villain(s) for The Dark Knight Rises are...

I could think of ways it could be...the Dark Knight does have its flaws.

More than likely it wont be but the Dark Knight wasnt perfection.

No, perfection is Pyscho, Vertigo, or North By Northwest.

The whole series has flaws, but Heath Ledger's Joker will be next to impossible to top in any comic superhero movie going forward. And the villain (at least for me) is what often makes or breaks the film.
