Another very good speech by Obama in Minny. .

Obama lovers always get excited after a speech, don't worry congress will screw it up and reality will come to the front

Another very good speech by Obama in Minny. Mostly a reprise of the DC speech, but it's excellent to see a Dem actually use the bully pulpit as effectively as the right has for years.

I was deeply skeptical that health care would get passed over both sincere if misplaced fears and cynically manufactured outage (guess who Joe Wilson's leading campaign contributor is?), but now... it's possible.

A lot of powerful forces do not want this particular boat rocked. They better quadruple the secret service contingent on him.

Unlike some of the hot issues in recent years, I think the medical thing touches everyone in some way eventually. Either through personal experience or that of relatives and friends. I think the underserved/undertreated population is going to hit critical mass sooner rather than later. At some point the lobbyists will be overwhelmed by shear numbers of folks in trouble. I don't think they will ever come to a consensus and of course no one will agree on what to do but it is easier to stir the pot when there are so many folks affected.

Remember, its not about what he believes, what he does, or how he acts. Its about whether he says it in a convincing manner that make people feel warm and inspired.

As opposed to the prior president, who no matter how unintelligent, stubborn and ridiculously out of touch he was, inspired the lemmings on the other side of the aisle for 8 friggin years because of one speech he made following 9/11?

The prior president is history, we have a new one.

Since when do you take my advice!!! Because if you do, I've got a few more suggestions for you.... :D

You do bring up a good point however.

How is it a President with an approval rating in the 50's (meaning a majority of the country likes the guy), a party with a 5% approval on a generic ballot while they're in a huge majority, and with public sentiment on his signature issue no worse than 50/50, somehow in trouble/crisis/doomed to relive Clinton in '94??? Is Obama/Dems only able to remain in power if his approval ratings are in the 70's???

Re: America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 - Part 2 - Deathers vs. Commies

This is his signature issue now?

He finally jumped on the bandwagon two weeks ago - before that, the D's wee crying for him to step up!

(easy to forget, but his signature issue was Iraq)

If his opponent is still promising a return to 2001-2008, that'll be just fine thanks. :)

The 2000's GOP's half-baked theories failed more spectacularly than any government in US history. 1, 4, or 40 years from now they'll still be on the ash heap of history. Many younger conservatives have already disavowed them and are getting on with the work of defining a new intellectually honest and ethically informed conservatism. The ones in the GOP power structure and its media wing who cheered on the disaster can't afford to be that honest with America or even with themselves. They'll go to their dying days in a Nixonian delusional state, screaming "I am not a crook!" at a country that has turned away, revolted.

2008? Ha. I'll be happy if the GOP candidate advocates anything this side of 1908!

William Graham Sumner would be too "leftist" for a southern Republican nomination in the Palinocon Era.

(Not to mention that he was an elitist college boy.)
