Americans-Canadians

Re: Americans-Canadians

We have to bring them over and train them. Huge commitment, lots of time, and plenty of money. Doesn't sound too promising. Other governments(hockey) don't see it the way we do I imagine.

Honestly, I don't think that would serve as a total / effective solution. Any remedy is really going to have to include a significant internal "upgrade" in commitment from all nations wanting to participate and really compete. Vital IMO. Yeah, you have to have assistance, support, input...guidance or whatever from North American hockey establishments, but if that's all you get...forgetaboutit.

I'd have to agree with all comments by coach Davidson on what needs to happen.

Women's hockey seeks competitive balance

"...in the 16 combined world championships and Olympics, Canada and the U.S. have played in the gold medal game in all but one. If the sport is going to improve, they'll have to be at the front of the charge..."

Good article. It was discussed on the Local Sports Radio Station for about ten minutes. (That is a good thing). Apparently this coming Thursday is the day that the state of the Female game is on the agenda at the summit. People are discussing it and realize it will require drastic changes to make drastic improvements. Long story short, the shock effect statements from Mr Rogge are creating a call to action.

The hockey people want to, it's the support that's the problem. That's why I see us as their only solution. What the heck else is new.

Re: Americans-Canadians

Try adding Triple "W" to address or get a smarter browser to do it for you. Link works fine for me.

Edit: Adding direct Link to the Womens section...

Thanks, got it. Wouldn't it be good to have additional reps of other nations present? Guess none were interested? If that were the case...not the best omen.

Re: Americans-Canadians

How many do you need? Let me re-phrase it...enough there. :)
Forget it then. I'm interested because I'm curious and uninformed on which nations are serious about an initiative to become competitive. I have my beliefs regarding a couple I'm convinced are serious...don't know about some others. Maybe I'll be able to get the info elsewhere. :)

I think the people here are representing all hockey nations. ;)

Re: Americans-Canadians

Here is the itinerary and a partial list of the participants...

"Hayley Wickenheiser will lead a discussion of players and coaches from Canada, the U.S., Finland and Sweden."

5 4, I'm sure you would agree that having just Finland and Sweden represented is pretty disappointing. If it's any indication of how serious the other countries are in developing their womens programs, the future of womens hockey as an Olympic sport appears in serious jeopardy.

,

Seems strange to me that they have the top four countries as they finished in the 2010 Olympics attending the summit but MIA is the Slovaks, Russians, Chinese, Swiss, Latvia & Norway. Sounds like a snoozefest to me....

Now it sounds a little like this might not be true and my initial inquiry might have actually been warranted. Hmmmm...

If those nations are in fact AWOL...not a real positive indicator as D2D alludes to...and most unfortunate.

No, you read it to suit YOUR argument again. The people HERE will represent all hockey nations. Get it! The strong are trying to figure out how to help the weak. Feel better? :) And ya, it is a snoozer, not much you can do other than what I said before. We pay for it. :)

Argument? What argument? I asked a question to which I did not know the answer. Christ...looking for an argument so bad you have to imagine one? :)

IMO, without actual hockey hierarchy of those nations mentioned as not being present actually being at the round table representing themselves in the grand scheme doesn't qualify as being represented. Let's have a labor / management summit...except with no labor present (that's an analogy...;)). Thanks for the detailed explanation with the attitude included. I especially like the implication / tone of your response indicating I was in some way having difficulty understanding what you were saying. Not true. The reality is you didn't understand what I was getting at. I personally feel improvement would have a better chance if all nations were truly involved in this particular "summit" and any that may follow. That's an opinion...get it? As has been evident in a number of your posts, you greatly overestimate your own perspicacity vs. that of other forum members. :)

Feel better? :)
About what exactly? Was I feeling poorly about something? If you can elaborate on what that was I'd appreciate that.

The "we pay for it" comment is puzzling. Are you feeling sorry for yourself or something?
