Americans-Canadians

Re: Americans-Canadians

There goes that "You" word again. I am not taking it to the extreme and never thought this was a reference to our neighbors to the north. I was referring more to the supposed "world" hate of America.

Never in any political or other type of discussion with anyone, here or in the real world, have I thought of Canada as a middle east neighbor to the north, I don't even dislike the middle east. When it really comes down to it, most people in the world have the same dreams, goals, and desires. There are a few people in the world that thrive on hate of others...but I really feel that they are the minority, not the majority.

Well now I can say, there you go again referring instead of saying. Why do you think there is a supposed world hate of America gotice? I'm curious, seriously. Anyone?

Can, did you notice the word "supposed" in front of the word world hate? That means that I personally do not believe the world hates us, regardless what some politicians and people might have us believe:D

Re: Americans-Canadians

Your kinda like a male brassiere salesman then, eh?

That quote reminds me of one of the most hilarious British TV shows of old:
"Are you being served" . British stereotyping at it's best.

If you ever have the chance to watch it, you'll laugh your head off. It was a big hit accross the pond back in the 70's. I've seen the occasional appearance on PBS.

I think it's more like you personally don't want to get into answering the question, which you brought upon yourself. Kind of like people who have a selective memory. I guess I can respect that, I wouldn't want to answer to it either. We'll leave it at that. :)

I'm sorry, what was the question?

Re: Americans-Canadians

Are you female? Blonde? Just kiddin, let it go. :D

No problem....something must have gotten lost in the postings, because I seriously thought I answered your question....but letting it go:D

In the words of that "Famous" philosopher, Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along"

You people from Canadistan can be so antagonistic. LOL;)

You're smooth...smart too. ;)

Re: Americans-Canadians

my life is now complete, now that I know you think I am smart and smooth...It's true, not everyone hates us Americans, even our middle east neighbor to the north:D

I can't believe it! You said it again! Right after I said you were smart! Does putty mean anything to you? :D

Re: Americans-Canadians

Didn't 5-4 say something about The Netherlands? ;)

I'm a little disappointed that the Germans didn't make their way into the finals.

The Dutch fans are notorious for chanting "We want our bikes back" during Dutch/German soccer matches. This insult is a directl link to the German retreat from Holland in WWII, the German infantry stole countless bicycles from the Netherlands while scurrying back to the motherland.

Hilarious!

Go Orange!

Actually a lot of history between Spain and The Netherlands as well, albeit not on the soccer pitch.

The Dutch National anthem stems from the 1500's when Willem of Nassau, AKA Willem of Orange stood up to the Spanish who where at the time governing the land of the zeven provinces (what is today The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg). Willem of Orange initiated the 80 year war with Spain against Spains King Philip the 2nd, which eventually led to the creation of the Dutch Republic and later became the Dutch Monarchy, with the Royal house being descendants of "Willem van Oranje" .

There are references to it in the Dutch national anthem. First couplet is translated as:

"William of Nassau
am I, of Dutch[14] blood.
Loyal to the fatherland
I will remain until I die.
A prince of Orange
am I, free and fearless.
The king of Spain
I have always honoured."

As you can see the Dutch still honour the King of Spain everytime they belt out that anthem on the pitch.

P.S....My dad's bike was indeed stolen during the war. He cried so hard, the soldier felt bad for him and gave him his bike back after he was done with it running an errand. My grandpa's family of 11 kids exploded to as high as 23 during the war, when he was hiding both Jews and downed English Pilots on his farm during the war. My dad's stories about it are etched firmly in my memory. Most Americans and Canadians living here have no idea how good we have it compared to those days.

Probably by the time the game gets going, most of them won't know what the heck they're singing about anyway.:D Nice history Onmaa. My Dad was in Holland and other parts of Europe for three and a half years. Unfortunately he doesn't much like to talk about it. But I've heard a few beauties. :)

Re: Americans-Canadians

Can we roll Calgary into this geographic definition??

Prob...but not for the next 10 days. Calgary Stampede starts tommorow.

I'm thinkin she'll be wall to wall Nut Buddies for the next week and a half or so. Fireman will be busy assisting the CPS with all the goins on.

Should be a ring-a-ding-dong-dandy!

Watch for me on T.V.!
