Americans-Canadians

Re: Americans-Canadians

Nope, my question remains, are there any NHL arenas that do not have a Canadian banner displayed? Which ones?

If the writer states the NBA flies the Canadian flag at every game as a sort of support for the case for the multiple anthem, it doesn't really serve as a point of contention or indictment of the NHL if NHL arenas all display the Canadian flag. If some don't, then it's a valid related point to support complaints against omitting the Canadian anthem during an all American final.

They ought to play both anthems in every series I'd say.

Who's gonna start the petition for the European anthems?

Re: Americans-Canadians

Totally agree. When the novelty wears off, which may already have started to occur, these outdoor games in big stadiums will be become increasingly rare. Personally, I'd rather not have to use binoculars to have a good view of the action on the (bad/snowy?) ice...or wear a snowmobile or rainsuit to be comfortable....
Does this mean your frozen ***** won't be in TCF Bank Stadium when GWH plays an outdoor WCHA contest...like I've heard they're planning as part of a future Hockey Day in Minnesota?

You could get lucky...probably be televised. ;)

I misunderstood and should have replied "Probably not." Meaning I doubt there are any NHL arena's that don't fly the Canadian flag in an American arena or vice versa.

I doubt anyone would start a petition for European anthems as no European countries have a team in the NHL.... at least not the last time I checked.

Re: Americans-Canadians

Did you notice in Game 2 that Don Cherry made a point in Coaches Corner of poking fun at how Americans call them locker rooms instead of dressing rooms even though there are actually no lockers in the rooms. Also showed the sign in the United Centre which directs people to the "Locker and Dressing Rooms".

Not bad for an American city....but I guess since its an Original Six team, they've had enough time to learn. :D

Re: Americans-Canadians

What's wrong with drinking Canadian, smoking Big Cigars, and trying to drive away on a Zamboni? :D

Nothing wrong with number one and two......A Canadian specialty...
....A famous four time Canadian Boston Marathon winner, Gérard Côté did the same after each of his victories, much to the chagrin of the locals. (See below).

"Gérard Côté of Montreal, winner of the '48 Boston Marathon, relaxes with a cigar and has another in reserve after a heavy meal. Cote, who has been known to smoke more than 20 cigars in a day, is Canada's hope in the 26-mile Olympic marathon. In his right hand he holds a Zippo lighter."

Below he is shown winning one of his Boston Marathons. See this 5-4....A Quebecer from St-Hyacinthe, proudly wearing the Maple Leaf during the WW2 era. Many will argue the most successful Canadian Long Distance runner ever.

That's hilarious...didn't see the piece however. :(

Locker rooms are found at swim meets...:)

I s'pose I could make an exception for that one...;)

Re: Americans-Canadians

God bless America! Philly wins and ties up series? Don Cherry sings Canadian national anthem on CBC telecast! Ron saves Don when he forgets the words and bales him out with a classic pun! What a life saver! There are my predictions for tonight's game. :)

Re: Americans-Canadians

Yup... Good guess. The Finals are going at least 6.

Yes, I am the man. Well, lucky I guess. My original bet was 4-2 Philly with an empty net. Pretty close huh! Plenty of $ now in my pocket. By the way, it was not a guess, it was well calculated. :) :D

Re: Americans-Canadians

I think I said Chicago in six, but the way Philadelphia has been playing at home, this thing could go seven. It's been a very entertaining series, that's for sure.

Re: Americans-Canadians

Chicago may have finally figured it out. Pronger was a -5 last night. Without his dominance, they are done. They could be fizzling out. The coach has to figure something out fast, but at least he has an extra day..... Old time hockey, Philly style?;)

CanHockGuy, thanks for the Slapshot reference, there ... "Old time hockey." Now I have the Hanson brothers and Joe McGrath's speech going through my head. You are correct, though, Chicago appears to have figured out how to neutralize Pronger and if Philly doesn't counterpunch (figuratively speaking ... LOL), it may very well end in game six. Should be interesting Wednesday.

Re: Americans-Canadians

In today's paper there's a picture of Pronger in a dress. What can this mean? Voodoo again, no way!
Ask Angela Ruggiero...who was none to appreciative as she believes it was quite disrespectful to the female hockey player. The publications editor made a public apology.

kind of a Chicago press / fan idiosyncrasy going back to the days of Dino "Sissyrelli" at least. They seem to enjoy depicting opponents as something less than manly. It's bush IMO, and in this case, I agree with Rugger.

Edit: It is inaccurate for me to imply that this is anything resembling something typical of the fine fans / press of Chicagoland since the Pronger picture and the long ago Dino "Sissyrelli" thing are the only two instances I'm aware of.

I thought we lived in a free society being able to voice our opinion, freedom of speech and all that garbage. I guess not if an editor of a news paper has to apologize for that. Also A.R. should be careful voicing concerns about respect considering she was on a team that allegedly stomped all over a National Flag some 4 yrs ago in a dressing prior to a game.
C'mon people this is just another example of how far gone this "Politically Correct" society we now live in is preventing everyone from voicing an opinion.
Chris Pronger in a dress is hilarious... People stomping on Flags...it may not be respectful but should be your right as a person living in a free society. I guess the Blackhawks logo should be changed to a picture of a bird that has fallen into the Gulf of Mexico so as to not offend Native Americans... NOT

Re: Americans-Canadians

I'm not real concerned with the PC edict which has far too much voice and influence these days for my taste. The Pronger picture strikes me a bit squirelly though.

Re: Americans-Canadians

Well, it's an all American final for the cup. Close to thirty Canadians in the starting lineup combined with both clubs. Not too shabby. Have to go with Chicago in six, as I picked them to win it all before the playoffs started. Voodoo does not apply here. :)

Well, there it is. A great playoffs and a great season. But can we get Toronto somewhere near the playoffs next year? Sorry....
