Americans-Canadians

Re: Americans-Canadians

A country without a language is not a country at all....

Stop kidding yourself with that multi-cultural, bi-lingual liberal B.S.

Who is kidding who ?. Up here there are two official languages, recognized in the constitution. That is more than most countries in the world.

Re: Americans-Canadians

Hey NJC, crawl back into that hole from whence you came...... By the way, Obama called, he said your visa is up. :D

Now CanHockGuy, if you know anything about Obama, you know he doesn't care about Visas....everyone is welcome in the USA...anyone who can get across our "tough" borders well always have a home here to do what ever they want.:(

But I do agree with the first part of your comment:)

Funny, I guess I do know little about Obama, as a matter of fact I know little about our guy....... I know one thing though, that moron better not give up his hole any time soon, because he certainly will not be welcome anywhere else. :)

I guess you have it all... a good example of a country and its language rap music. Is that English?

Re: Americans-Canadians

Accross the pond the proper word for it is "Rubbish". :D

In Oakland, California (near San Francisco) several years ago some people were trying to establish Ebonics as the preferred language for students to receive academic instruction... perhaps that is the proper name for the language that is spoken in some of the Rap. I mean if we are going to go the PC route

My mother worked many years as a teacher in California and as part of continuing educational requirements for licensure she was required to take various classes related to culture and believe it or not, she took a class in ebonics to satisfy that requirement. I remember giving her some grief about that course when watching this scene from Airplane...

Re: Americans-Canadians

Help me here. There is a considerable amount of money riding on this. If a person moves from the States to Canada what might they be called, a Canamerican or an Americana? :D

I'm thinking with the PC crowd, if an American moves to Canada and becomes and Canadian citizen, they would now be referred to as an American-Canadian or for short an Americandian.

Like I am a German, Russian-American, but since that is too long to say any time I am asked, I like to just say I am an American. If I moved to Canada, I would become a German, Russian, American-Canadian or a Gerrushamercandian.:D

Re: Americans-Canadians

No silly, when an American moves to canada we just call him an Idiot. [and we're all happy he left].

I knew you would take the bait on this one NJC. Your intelligence is becoming legendary. :D And who exactly is "we're" anyway? You're on your own in that hole. Rot away....

Re: Americans-Canadians

Canada sucked at the worlds. Sounds like a big thing, worlds, but does it really matter to any of the teams anymore? I think it's pretty obvious. Too bad. :(

It sure mattered to the Czech's and the Russians. This upset has VooDoo written all over it as the Russians were one of the few teams that added players after the Tournament had started. :( The Russians had no less than 14 players jump on board as the Capitals & Penguins Stanley Playoffs went poof.....most of these players were also avenging a quarter final loss in the Olympics earlier in the year. This team was star studded.

In contrast the Czech team was made up of a handful of players that play hockey within the Republic & a total of 4 NHLer's, one of which was there back up goaltender.

The Germans came within 1 win of winning a medal since 1934 as they lost to the Swedes in the Gold medal game 3-1. An apocalyptic finish to a world tournament where the Americans & Canadians were no where to be seen and a team like Denmark made an unexpected push in thier pool with some success.

VooDoo?

Hmmmm...might want to look in your own back yard. Compliments of Wickipedia...

The Spanish language is the second most-common language in the United States after English. There are more Spanish speakers in the U.S. than there are speakers of Chinese, French, Hawaiian, and the Native American languages combined. According to the 2007 American Community Survey conducted by the United States Census Bureau, Spanish is the primary language spoken at home by over 34 million people aged 5 or older.[1] There are also 45 million Hispanics who speak Spanish as a first and second language [6] and there are 6 million Spanish students [7], making it the world's second-largest Spanish-speaking community, only after Mexico and ahead of Spain, Colombia and Argentina.[8] Roughly half of all U.S. Spanish speakers also speak English "very well", based on the self-assessment Census question respondents.

These numbers are not included in the above...

Illegal immigration to the United States refers to the act of foreign nationals violating U.S. immigration policies and national laws by entering or remaining in the United States without proper permission from the United States government.[1]

The illegal immigrant population of the United States in 2008 was estimated by the Center for Immigration Studies to be about 11 million people, down from 12.5 million people in 2007.[2] According to a Pew Hispanic Center report, in 2005, 57% of illegal immigrants were from Mexico; 24% were from other Latin American countries, primarily from Central America;[3] 9% were from Asia; 6% were from Europe; and 4% were from the rest of the world.

Seems to me we both have two official languages...Canadians just admit it.;)

True enough. I shouldn't have lumped everyone into the same category. Some teams sure didn't seem to be in to it. It matters more for some than others unfortunately. Maybe for the one that it mattered the most to, Voodoo came a callin. The underdog can sure play with heads can't it?
