Americans-Canadians

Re: Americans-Canadians

That's because basically 100% of the tickets go to season ticket holders, which are all locked up in corporate buys. Normal fans can't afford the tickets even if you were able to buy them. The ticket prices are by far the highest in the NHL.

The atmosphere at the games is dead, because almost no one who goes is a hockey fan. Everyone's there for business reasons. :( If you watch the games on TV, you will notice that most of the platinum seats are empty at the start of the period. That's because everyone's still in their suites underneath eating and drinking.

Ironically, it is far cheaper to buy tickets and pay the transportation and hotel to go to games in Buffalo, Detroit, Ottawa, Montreal and Pittsburgh (all teams within 5 hours drive)...and lots of fans from Toronto do this every year, including ourselves. That's why Bettman's an #*@%^&* idiot for not allowing another team in the Toronto area. That's also why so many people from Toronto are fans of these other teams.

The fact that 100% of the tickets are sold at exhorbitant prices to corporate buyers also is the reason that Toronto has not had a competitive team much in the last 40 years. There is absolutely no incremental business incentive to win.

That's really a shame that the real Maple Leaf fans can't get tickets! The Blue Jackets may not be very good but at least I can get tickets and see the games in person if I want to. I do like the Nasher and am thrilled that we have him locked up for eight seasons. Now if we can just get some more weapons, some defensemen, and a new coach, we'll be set (LOL)!

Re: Americans-Canadians

Come on 5-4, we at least have two WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIPS! You can never take that away. .

I was actually there the night The Jays won their World Series title at home....in the middle of a bunch of Phillies fans in the outfield when Joe Carter's homer came right at us into our section. That memory will always be a special highlight for me.

Was also there with my Dad for the first Blue Jays game ever played--in old Exhibition stadium. There was a snowstorm that day and I was never so cold in my life. Walking back to the car afterward, I couldn't feel my legs anymore. But again, a day I will never forget.

We had season's tickets for the Jays for years and years...until the year of the baseball strike. After that I lost interest in baseball altogether. Haven't seen a Jays game since...and any baseball games at all only a couple of times while visiting other cities (Baltimore, Boston).

At one point, we had Leafs seasons tickets too, until between having both, they became too expensive and we had to give up the Leafs tix...it was either that or the kids.

There wasn't anything wrong with the coach they fired. :(

Agree with you 100% on that. If you saw my other post, I thought it sucked the way the players stopped playing for Hitchcock. It was so obvious they were tanking it on purpose. That's the crappy thing about pro sports is if the players don't do their jobs, the coach gets fired. The guys tuned Hitch out. It's a shame. I mean, the guy obviously knows what he is doing as he won the Stanley Cup with the Dallas Stars in the 1998-99 season and took the Philadelphia Flyers to a number of playoff appearances. I thought he was a great coach and was thrilled to have him in Columbus coaching the Blue Jackets. I was hoping he would get us a Stanley Cup here in Columbus. Well, a guy can dream, can't he? I actually got my picture taken with the Hitcher last November at Hockeyfest. I thanked him for bringing playoff hockey to Columbus. Four months later, he's out of a job. The thing that impressed me about Hitch was he wasn't interested in bringing in a bunch of free agents to get a token playoff appearance every once in a while. He wanted to build a club that would challenge for a playoff appearance every season. I'm sorry I have been partly responsible for getting us off the original topic, but when I start talking about this sport we all love, it's easy for me to get off on a tangent.

It's hard to believe that we have a Canadian team still alive in the playoffs. Never really liked Montreal, always found their teams and fans a tad arrogant. Whenever I competed against a team from Quebec, the bomb doors were always open. I kind of hate to admit it, but this team, this crappy team, is starting to grow on me. They have no business being where they are right now, but somehow they're figuring it out as they go along, and now seem to have things all set up. This is very rare at this level. Ya gotta think they can handle Philly or Boston after dispatching Ov and Crosby right?
Voodoo!

CHG, it wouldn't be the first time that the Habitants won the cup with a mediocre team and a hot goaltender. Like Cherry say's...it's Patrick Roy, like in Roy Rogers. ;)

Truth is...the Stanley Cup always comes down to goaltending. Always has, Always will.

You're not talking to a novice here 5-4, your point is well taken. I feel this is more extreme, given the teams involved, and the way they entered the playoffs. There is no way anyone could see this coming, hot goaltender or not.

Cammie has been explosive, we saw that here in Calgary. It`s the scoring that they are getting from the supporting cast that`s making a difference. Gill is having the series of his career and well... Halak is lights out. Like Sid said last night ...``how do you outchance a team 2 to 1 in a series and come out on the wrong end...it just doesn`t make any sense.``

That`s Hackey, Eh!

Philly in 7....

Re: Americans-Canadians

Who was that again who said Boston was going to sweep, then posted the aforementioned before the fourth game. Will Voodoo strike again. I bet you're sweating it out now. Good luck tonight!

On the off chance that any of you might be interested...the Memorial Cup starts today in Brandon, Manitoba and will be on the air south of the border. The NHL Network will simulcast Sportsnet's coverage of all tournament Games.

Go Hitmen...

The Hall kid could make the difference. He's probably preoccupied with the thought of having to move to Edmonton though...:(

Don't count out the host Brandon Wheat Kings...they are sleeping in thier own beds.
