Americans-Canadians

Re: Americans-Canadians

Germany 2 US 1 ....I guess the 78,000 on hand got them a little nervous. :D

This record setting attendance of 77,803 at this game held in Veltin Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany which is normally home to the Schalke Soccer Team broke the previous record of 74,544 set in 2001 at Spartan Stadium when Michigan State hosted Michigan.

Re: Americans-Canadians

Americans and Canadians seem to be great partners in the development of hockey. The competitive spirit within both nations can only carry the sport to new levels of greatness. Our neighbors to the south are getting better by the minute, and I for one am looking forward to new challenges to keep us on top. It won't be easy. Other nations need to push us further. Talk of the support to the CWHL can only enhance interest. If this holds water, then we finally may be on our way. :)

When did Mexico start fielding a team?!? ;)

Re: Americans-Canadians

Today, a friend of mine asked me if I knew who owned one of the major manufacturers of hockey equipment. I wasn't sure, and was surprised to hear who did. How many manufacturers are American owned and how many are Canadian owned? How many are controlled outside North America? I've lost track. It seems everything moves from year to year. Name a major (mid to large) manufacturer of hockey equipment and tell me who owns it.

Re: Americans-Canadians

armada latina!

Uh-Oh the RStarr Armada.....Lets run and hide. :D

The most famous Armada, I learned about in history lesson is the ones during the 80 and 100 year wars, involving mostly the British and Spanish Naval battles in the Nord Sea in the 15th, 16th and 17th century.

Safe to say there are the big three and IMHO you can rank them Bauer, RBK-CCM and Easton. There are certainly other suppliers such as Warrior, TPS, Sher-Wood etc. however the mainstream market share is held by these three Companies for players.

Goalie is normally Vaughn, Brians, Sher-Wood, RBK, Bauer and a few others

Bauer is no. 1 in skate sales always have been... after all they were the first company to attach the blade to the boot circa 1927 which changed hockey forever. They also offer lines of sticks, protective & helmet. Story goes that Nike saw Roller Hockey taking off in a big way in N.A. and bought Bauer to better position themselves for the millions of people that were going to take up the game. It didn`t happen. Nike sold them to a group headed by a businessman Graeme Roustan from Montreal a few years back along with the private equity firm Kohlberg & Co out of Mt. Kisco N.Y. The branding has changed from Nike Bauer back to the original brand of Bauer. There headquartered out of Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Easton is a US company that is multi faceted and into baseball in a big way.
IMO Easton is the leader in Composite Sticks by a long shot followed closley by thier composite bat line. Easton offers Skates, Protective, Helmet and of course bats.. The parent company also owns Bell Helmets which helped them introduce a helmet to thier hockey lineup a few years back. They are headquartered out of Van Nuys CA. and Kirkland Quebec

RBK-CCM ( Canada Cycle & Motor Co. Ltd. ) is obviously owned now by RBK and actually carrying two lines in all major hockey categories. You can either buy the RBK brand of stick, skate, protective or helmet or the CCM brand of each which indicates RBK`s strong desire to keep the Canadian Icon CCM brand in the public eye. Good for them.. Thier skates are gaining popularity again since rebranding the CCM line with the U+ which replaced the Tack(aberry) and adding the pump to the RBK line of skates. They are headquartered in Montreal, Quebec.

All Hockey Companies, for advertising purposes are reliant on Professional Hockey Players wearing thier brands and endorsment contracts are not unusual. Some players have say...Mission gloves an Easton stick, RBK protective, Bauer skates and a CCM helmet. Endorsements contracts are normally only on the outer gear and players are free to wear what they want underneath where no logos are typicaly visible. Players like OV & Sidney are dedicated to one brand.. CCM and RBK respectivley and are head to toe in those lines.

Thats what I know...

Excellent summary. However, IMHO the best skate is Graf.

Re: Americans-Canadians

Each to thier own but how many players in the HNL or NCAA for that matter wear Graf?

It's all about quick feet these days and Graf are heavy...:(

Not sure about the HNL ;) , but NHL and NCAA players are usually seen in Bauer skates because they are provided free via individual or team sponsorships.

Of course skate preference if you have to pay for them is largely a matter of fit and comfort. Without those, performance is compromised regardless of other factors.
In our family's experience, though we've tried just about everything else over the years for short stints, we've always ended up going back to good old Grafs.

Is Graf Canadian owned, didn't they used to be European? Also, when a team in the NCAA gets outfitted with a predominant helmet or skate, stick etc. does the manufacturer supply it for free to get exposure or what?
