Americans-Canadians

Re: Americans-Canadians

Bring em back...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61DQc_szzFg

Check out the very young looking Ron Mclean, Kelly Hrudey and Scott Oak interviewing Stevie Y and the late Don Wittman with the call.

Bring them back to thier rightful home Bettman ya little weasel!

I hope the team comes back but I guess there is some question now. My brother has a place near Glendale that he goes to during the winter. He says Glendale will be in serious trouble if the team goes. Are they not in serious trouble now?

Hard to beleive but the Desert Dogs had a turn around season and filled the building during playoff's. The only changes that were made in the off season were a couple of trades and the former coach was let go...a guy by the name of Wayne Gretzky. Go figure!

Re: Americans-Canadians

If the Coyotes go back to Winnipeg, can Minnesota have the Moose back? :p

Here you go, you'll have to pick up the shipping tab upon delivery :D

My question is, if the team goes back in the dumper, do the fans still support? We've been doing that in Toronto for decades. Loyal (stupid?) fan base we have here, plus plenty of corporate schmoozing. :D

Bettman say's if they get a consistantly good performing team there the fan base will be come... as proven during the playoff's. He cites Chicago as a good example where they haven't had good teams for awhile and now there has been a resurgence. Typical...he manages to brush over the fact that one city is on the East Coast in an established hockey market and the other is well.. in the Desert.

I'd leave the Coyotes where they are and see if it works...then I'd immediately move the Atlanta Thrashers to the PEG! The Winnipeg Thrashers...it's got a ring to it. Follow that up with moving the Manitoba Moose to Saskatoon and Tah Dah...Everything is one with the world.

I don't care who moves as long as it happens. Winnipeg should get a team back, looks like a great market.

I was talking to a customer at a conference a few weeks back whose company is located in Burlington (just down the road from Toronto if I am not mistaken). He said of all the pro teams in Toronto, a Maple Leafs ticket is the toughest to get.

That's because basically 100% of the tickets go to season ticket holders, which are all locked up in corporate buys. Normal fans can't afford the tickets even if you were able to buy them. The ticket prices are by far the highest in the NHL.

The atmosphere at the games is dead, because almost no one who goes is a hockey fan. Everyone's there for business reasons. :( If you watch the games on TV, you will notice that most of the platinum seats are empty at the start of the period. That's because everyone's still in their suites underneath eating and drinking.

Ironically, it is far cheaper to buy tickets and pay the transportation and hotel to go to games in Buffalo, Detroit, Ottawa, Montreal and Pittsburgh (all teams within 5 hours drive)...and lots of fans from Toronto do this every year, including ourselves. That's why Bettman's an #*@%^&* idiot for not allowing another team in the Toronto area. That's also why so many people from Toronto are fans of these other teams.

The fact that 100% of the tickets are sold at exhorbitant prices to corporate buyers also is the reason that Toronto has not had a competitive team much in the last 40 years. There is absolutely no incremental business incentive to win.

1) Toronto Maple Leafs - losers
2) Toronto Blue Jays - losers
3) Toronto Raptors - losers
4) Toronto Argonauts - losers
5) Toronto FC - losers

The entire lot of Professional Sports Teams in Toronto are dismal....not exactly the legacy sports fans are proud of.

Come on 5-4, we at least have two WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIPS! You can never take that away. Too bad we can't get the corporate support there now. Demographics, as you mentioned about previously, seems to be eating away at fan support, and our budget. I guess we have to start over and get more people involved. How about making it a prerequisite? The fan base for the rest of the teams you're ripping are doing ok except for maybe the Argos. But most of that league has changed quite a bit over the last few years also. Shame.

Alrighty then...Can't wait until Toronto manages to secure that NFL team.... The Toronto Disapointments. ;)

It all started with the Harold Ballard Era. Worst team making the most money.

At least you have the 1992 and 1993 Blue Jays. It could be worse, you could be a Cleveland/Columbus pro sports fan like me ...

1) Cleveland Browns - losers
2) Cleveland Indians - losers - glorified AAA affiliate that supplies all stars and Cy Young winning pitchers to other teams (that are willing to actually spend money to put a championship team on the field)
3) Cleveland Cavaliers - about to choke it up in the second round of the NBA playoffs for the second year in a row and Lebron is probably leaving
4) Columbus Blue Jackets - followed first playoff appearance up with a season in which they shamefully tanked it on purpose (and everyone knows it) to get a great coach like Ken Hitchcock fired

Ok, maybe it's not quite as bad here as it is for Toronto fans, but it's close, and you guys have won a title a lot more recent than we have (1964 Browns).
