Yep, there could certainly be some behind the scenes stuff going on. Just interesting, though, that the pre-season #1 team is playing with a goalie that's 80th out of 81 teams in terms of save percentage. Incongruous!
Murray (18 yrs 6 month) is two years younger than Peter Mannino (20 yrs 7 months), Glenn Fisher (20 yrs 5 months) & Marc Cheverie (20 yrs 7 months) when they were freshman.

Adam Berkhoel was (18 yrs. 6 months) as a Freshmen but was coming off a sensational year in the USHL.

I heard that Murray doesn't have the flu, he has a case of the sieverhhea.

:)

I just like the fact that DU fans are already nervous about their season going down the tubes. ;) I know, I know 1957.

In non-hockey news, Olympic and DU All American skier, Otto Tschudi, will be inducted into the Colorado Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame in Vail, Colo. on Saturday. DU Today has a great article on him and all his accomplishments in life. Not only was he instrumental in helping DU to some NCAA titles while a student, he was one of the driving forces in re-instating the program which has resulted in 5 NCAA titles in 9 years since resurrecting the program. He sits on the DU Board of Trustees and is in the DU Hall of Fame.

Excellent feature on one of DU's great athletes and supporters. Tschudi is certainly deserving of the honor. Didn't realize he was involved with Montgomery Securities which was a key analyst for S&L's that went public.

Every time that I read Schaeffler had 13 NCAA Championships, can't help but be impressed. I think he also coached the soccer team and most of the skiers were also soccer players.

Yep, a lot of the skiers played on the soccer team. They also ran the stairs inside the old DU arena to get in shape before the season. The hockey players would be on the ice practicing and the ski team would be runnning all around the arena. Back then there were more events for the ski team including the downhill event and ski jumping on the Nordic side.

When you preempt me by falling on the "57 dagger" you take a lot of the fun out of my posting. :D

He also had 'em running the steps in Hilltop stadium, with other skiiers on their backs, screaming "Vining iss funn." Guy was impressed into an anti-Nazi penal battalion on the Russian front and somehow got the heck outta there.
He also taught Patton how to ski. One of the most remarkable men you'll ever encounter. I last saw him setting the women's slalom course at Saporo in '72.

Courtesy of dg and USA Hockey:
"Just 13 seconds after falling behind, 1-0, Jason Zucker's feed from behind the net found (Nick) Shore who fired the puck into the top corner to knot the score. " Shore scored a 2nd goal in the final game and was named USA Player of the Game. Two DU recruits who we hope will be just as effective when they are wearing the Crimson and Gold..

BTW, Team USA won the Four Nations CUP

Rakhshani nominated for WCHA Offensive Player of the Week.
Not surprisingly, no DU player was nominated for Defensive Player of the Week.:o

bump!!! any news on Chevrie?

According to Mike Chambers of the Denver Post, who talked to him earlier in the week, he wants to be back for the UND series. Gwoz says that would be great but it will be up to the medical staff to determine when he will be ready to go. Gwoz likes that he wants to get back in there but wants to make sure he is healthy.

Good. Everyone knew we would suffer injuries, every team does but, geeeezz!! I never thought we would lose our goalie, that's about the worst case scenario. Maybe we're just getting it over with early. Meanwhile, ND is playing well for this time of year. Hopefully they'll flip flop and crash in March and April. It will be fun to see this team skating at 100%. They are fast, tricky and deep. Any news on Weircoch?

If DU had games this weekend, Wiercioch would not play per Gwoz. Not much info coming out of DU about his injury.

"If we played this weekend, he wouldn't play," DU coach George Gwozdecky said Monday. "We're really going through some challenges, with some of our top guys coming up lame. Hopefully, we'll get through that and put it behind us."

The news that IS coming out are blatant lies.

Sophomore defenseman Patrick Wiercioch absorbed a knee-on-knee hit in the third period and did not return.

http://blogs.denverpost.com/sports/...-hopes-to-play-in-sioux-series/#disqus_thread

Tuesday’s paper will also have word on sophomore defenseman Patrick Wiercioch, who left Saturday’s game with a knee injury.

This makes me irate. Try watching the video of the last 7 minutes of the game after the hit. Patrick played the rest of the game, regular shifts, right up to the horn!! If he were really injured, do you think your coach would have let him play, knowing the game was lost anyway?

So George lets him play, then says immediately after the game that his guy is hurt and if they had to play next weekend (a bye week) he would not be able to play!! George is lying. He is not hurt.

Pretty standard for an athlete to be able to play on an injury until swelling occurs.

Its also very low class to criticize a college athlete who has sustained an injury.

Why do you care? What exactly does he gain by saying Wiercioch wouldn't be able to play this weekend?
