Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Pios 4-0
Scoring 20 goals
Like Gwoz said yesterday, "Zucker, Salazar, Drew Shore ..who are those guys?"

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Just got back from the game and what a game it was. Murray played well in net even after taking a couple of hard shots off his helmet. Once again the offense keeps surprising me by pumping out the goals. Only real criticism I have is that we still take some avoidable penalties.

Also, seen at the game: Adrian Veideman, Max Bull, Jeff Rogers and one infamous DG.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Some thoughts on Sweeping Tech:
One concern I have, is the physicality of the Denver D. When we start playing big teams, who like to hit, Denver better start hitting back. You don't have to nescescarily be big, as long as you're smart and skilled - and DU is smart and skilled for sure - but it remains to be seen how these guys will do with a team like UM or UND, when the hitting is notched up.

These referees were a joke. Attention Don Adam: please watch this game on Pioneervision and take note.... you can use this as a training tool this summer for the NCHC, PLEASE.

Nice to see the Lets Go DU Sports Blog webmaster get some jumbotron time, pimping the Boone jerseys :D

The arena announcer was new; he sounded like he's from WWE Wrestling. I like it. Is the old one gone?

Student section turnout was great, with cheerleaders AND the Dance Team.... Niiiice!

On top of all this..... DU is 4-0 and CC got swept!!! God Bless America

I thought Veideman was in Vienna.

Glad you mentioned the refs. I didn't really have a problem with the penalties that were called, but that cluster foxtrot that put Tech down two men was a complete gaggle. When ref stuff delays the game that significantly, it certainly needs to be looked at.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Yeah, Gwoz commented on the postgame about the questionable call, where the DU guy got pegged for "diving", but his mouth was bleeding, from just being bashed in the face with a cross check....and the kid has to go see an Orthodontist on Monday...... that's "diving" in the WCHA? What, the old ketchup packet fake blood trick, huh??? That call was complete Bovine Feces and everyone knows it.

Yeah, I heard the DU penalty was initially announced as diving, which was lame. I'm pretty much a bottom line guy when it comes to the refs and even though it took an eternity, they got the calls right in the end. The lesson for the crew to learn is "Don't announce the penalties PRIOR to conferring with each other." It's only the fourth game of the season, so I have hope for the refs. Of course, I've said that every year and it inevitably turns into FALSE hope. lol.

It was nice to see DU kill off two minutes of 5 on 3. I enjoyed seeing Didier out on the ice for most of that penalty kill.

As a group, DU posters shy away from complaining about officiating. However, my experience is that "diving" seldom draws blood (unless you're dealing with a player suffering from St. Vitus Dance).

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

du78, hope you have told the electric company that in the event of power outage, you must be up and running by Friday! Or have you gotten hold of a generator to power Pio-vision?

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

When was the last time DU scored five or more goals in four consecutive regular season games?

Oct. 25th - Nov. 2nd, 2002. They beat Alabama-Huntsville 7-2, 7-0 & Wisconsin 5-3, 5-3.

Note: They did it on two other occasions, but needed exhibition games to pull off the feat.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Still have power but the lights have been flickering. Lots of wind and rain. Wind gusts have been 60+ mph so far and will probably go higher in the next few hours. Worst rain is to the south along the Jersey Shore. The big problem is going to be the storm surge in the next 2 to 4 hours. Essentially the entire south shore of Long Island will be under water. For those of you familiar with LI, that is the entire area south of Merrick Rd./Montauk Highway (Rt. 27A). Lots of small branches are down in my yard. Luckily most of the leaves have been blown off of the trees so they aren't acting like sails like they would if this was August or September. Just under 200,000 people on LI are without power right now. We still have many hours of high winds so that number could rise dramatically. A crane has collapsed on W 57th Street in NYC. It is at the 90th floor of a new condo building and hanging up above Carnegie Hall. If that falls there will be significant damage to the surrounding buildings. W. 57th is closed between 6th & 7th Avenues in Midtown. I just hope we don't lose power.

Still have power here in Maine. Wind is kicking up but no rain yet. We need to send positive vibes out to the crew of the HMS Bounty, the replica used in lots of films. As of now 14 are in life rafts and 2 are missing. I think the boat has sunk. As a boat Captain, I have to ask what in the world were they doing out there now?

My son just got home from work. Took him a half hour to make a 5 minute drive. He said trees are down all over the place and our little 2 to 3 block area is the only one with power. Keeping my fingers crossed.
