Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Four-goal third leads to 4-0 win for Team USA over Finland. Kerdiles, Lane, Shore and Carrick with the goals. 21-save SO for Olson. #U18WMC

Will Butcher — Sun Prairie, Wis. — The lone 1995-born player to crack this D corps, Butcher brings a lot of talent and skill. Though a bit undersized, Butcher is an elite skater with good on-ice vision and strong passing ability. He can jump into plays, provide good support along the offensive blue line and create some offense. Butcher is strong in leading a transition, using his feet to get out of tight situations and creating time and space. He also gets the puck to the net quickly from the point. Having a high-end offensive defenseman, even though Butcher is an under-ager, will go a long way towards generating more scoring chances. NHL Draft eligible in 2013

Quentin Shore — Denver, Colo. — As one of the few forwards at 6-feet or taller, Shore offers Team USA some size. He’s also shown some scoring touch, and the ability to bury big goals. Of Shore’s 14 tallies this year, eight were of the game-winning variety, by far the most on the team. His penchant for clutch scoring makes Shore an important asset in this tough tournament. NHL CSS Final Rank: 80

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Similar to Bozak's time at DU--full freshman year, injury plagued sophomore year, then leaves for the pros. But we got quite a bit more out of Bozak, due to his good freshman year. Beau never really hit his stride at DU (except for maybe a month or two). It's kinda sad that a player of that quality is unable to leave much of a legacy at DU. But that's the nature of the beast these days--recruit the best, hope they can hit the ground running as freshmen, and hope they don't get injured. Unfortunately Beau had two strikes against him--he didn't exactly hit the ground running, and he had a major injury just as he was becoming an impact player. Which leaves us fans (and Gwoz) thinking..."uhh...thanks for stopping by."

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

DU announced it. We never really got to see him at his best. His frosh year was one of figuring out the college game and he had a great start to his soph year before getting injured. He could have been the best player on the team this past season but we will never know. He said his plan was to be at DU 2 years and he stuck with it. Good luck to him in Pittsburgh! I guess now we will see what magic Gwoz and Miller have in finding some proven scorers.

Too bad you guys are losing so much, sure would have been a heck of a team if everyone had come back for next year, oh well, that's part of being a top program.

Chris Peters covering the U18 World Championship.
USA plays Canada Tuesday.

The goal of the game came from Quentin Shore, who has now scored in each of Team USA’s three games so far. After stealing the puck off a Denmark forward’s stick in front of the U.S. net, Shore took it down the ice himself and sent a shot through the D and into the top-right corner to close out the scoring at 4-0.

Other Top Performers
Quentin Shore — Shore has shown remarkable consistency through the first three games. He’s scored in each game and has been generating offense in other ways as well. Shore gives Team USA strength down the middle as one of the top centermen. He’s been good on draws and bordering on dynamic in the offensive zone

In case you haven't noticed, DU Women's Golf is ahead by 12 strokes in the SBC tournament. A win tomorrow would be DU's 9th conscutive title.
In SBC tennis , DU men are seeded @1 and the Women are seeded #2. Spring sports must be catching on.

Upgrades to arenas not named Madison Square or Boston Garden rarely, if ever, work. Its the oldest con in the griftting business known as sports ownership. Team becomes semi-successful, ownership can't make a profit because of building, taxpayers get hit-up for a new arena.

The Coliseum is a spectacular hockey venue! It has the rowdy feel of the Old Barn rather than the snootiness of Ritchie. It’s been host to the Denver Mavericks, Denver Invaders, Denver Spurs, Denver Rangers and let us not forget the Denver Pioneers!

The Coliseum was like a rink of last resort. When the old barn was declared uninhabitable and possibly when Ritchie was being built. Much better fit for the rodeo.
