Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Gwozdecky is under contract through 2014 with a base salary "between $200,000 and $250,000," according to his agent, Leigh Augustine.

Supposedly DU is working on long term deals for Gwozdecky & Tierney.

Interesting. My guess is that Gwoz would get bumped up to Hakstol-like numbers (read: $300k base)...or at the very least should get bumped up.

I believe the original ten-year deal was signed in 2002 and then was renegotiated/bumped-up in 2004 after the Natty.

Reportedly the contract featured a large annuity that comes due after the 10th year or conclusion of the contract. It was designed that way so that he wouldn't be tempted to jump ship if a job like Minnesota, Wisconsin or Michigan State opened up. Turned out to be a smart deal on DUs part.

And like any 10 year contract in sports, the deal looks pretty one sided in today's dollars.

Nice. Gwoz deserves to be one of the top 5 paid coaches in the game, and it would really surprise me if DU wasn't proactive in getting a new deal done prior to the start of the National.

They want to do it, but if you take a look at the recent Mankato deal, some alums stepped up big-time. I'm sure that's what DU is looking for.

The problem with the National is you just don't know what the revenue streams are going to look like.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Drew Shore had a goal in his first AHL Play-off game. Joe Colborne with 2 assists for the Marlies.

AND Matt Carle just scored the 1st goal in tonight's Flyers-Pens game.

And it didn't matter because the Flyers still lost. :D

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

DU recruits Quentin Shore and Will Butcher are wearing gold as the U18s defeated Sweden 7-0 for the World Championship.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

From Chris Peters' United States of Hockey review of the Forwards at the U18 World Championships.
Quentin Shore — The third Shore brother to play in the World U18 Championship, Quentin lived up to the family name. Brothers Nick and Drew each had quite a bit of success at this tournament, but Quentin kept up. He scored three goals, all of which came from a good distance. Shore has a terrific shot and while foot-speed may be an issue, he has good size and a natural scoring ability. Because of that, he should be a mid-round pick. There is a fair amount of upside to Shore as he should continue to round out his game over the next few years and be an impact player in college. Committed to the University of Denver
