Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

It's too bad Drew Shore left early. That would have been a lot of fun having three brothers all on the same team.
We were hoping, but...

After the next 2 years, If Quentin stays 4 years and brother #4, Baker, skips a grade there could be another Shore duo in the future.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

More from Chris Peters' United States of Hockey. U18 Defensemen--

Will Butcher — The lone under-age player on Team USA’s D corps handled himself very well in the tournament. Despite seeing limited ice in the closer games, Butcher was good when he was out there. A gifted puck-mover and skater, Butcher showed flashes of what’s to come over what should be a bright career. He has good speed and vision and showed sound decision making. He had the benefit of playing with a gifted group, but he never once looked out of place. The valuable experience gained at this tournament should help Butcher step into his official Under-18 season with a lot of confidence. Draft eligible in 2013. Committed to the University of Denver.

Future Pioneers

USHL Playoffs
Green Bay Gamblers
DU Recruits:
Grant Arnold (2012) has scored 3 goals in 4 playoff games including 2 GWG
Dakota Mermis (2012) is 5-22-27 +22 for the regular season

In his 1st year in Green Bay former DU assistant, Coach Derek LaLonde, won the Anderson Cup for Most Points in the League

Indiana Ice
DU Recuit Tyler Pham (2012) went 4-8-12 in the regular season (corrected)

Green Bay meets Indiana in the Eastern Conference Finals

DU Recruit Brad Hawkinson's (2013) OT Goal put the Lincoln Stars in the Western Conference Finals.

NAHL Playoffs

Fairbanks Ice Dogs and DU Recruit Gabe Levin (2012). Levin, 18-72-90 +36, is from Marina Del Rey, Ca. Does this mean he will wear #9 at DU?

BCHL
Penticton Vees won the Doyle Cup (BCHL vs AJHL) Cody DePourcq (2013) will now be playing for the RBC Cup. A rookie in the BCHL, DePourcq was 6-12=18 regular season and is 1-2-3 in the playoffs.

Tyler Pham had 4 goals and 8 assists for Indiana this season, those numbers you have were his 2010/11 total for the Colorado Thunderbirds.

BTW, NHL too.

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

Found out via reader comments & newspaper confirmation that Van Voorhis & Pham will come to DU in 2013.

That means that things might be very interesting on the recruiting front this summer...

DU graduated 5 players [Goal Czar, Dewhurst, Jackson, Lee & Ryder].

3 players left early [D.Shore, Zucker & Bennett]

6 Freshmen are coming in [Mermis, Allen, Zajac, Q.Shore, Arnold & Levin]

Looks to me like DU has two more forwards to bring in. Either they bring in one or two guys from the 2013 recruiting class [Hawkinson and/or Smith] OR they go shopping for late bloomers in Canada, Europe, NAHL, USHL or find someone to change their commitment [a la Wiercioch/LaLeggia]

I like the idea of bringing in a late bloomer or two, if they are available. We need some experienced and bigger players to round out the lineup after all the departures. 5'8" 170 pound 17-18 year olds aren't going to cut it.

Maybe Jussi has some friends who would like to play for DU.:D

Re: All Things Denver XXXIII

The 12-13 schedule is out, looks pretty favorable with some nice non-conf opponents.

I went the the Aces-Wranglers game last night, Wranglers won and Pauko had a noice game playing a defensive-minded center. Tyler wasnt there, heard he was called up to the AHL.
Ruegs is on the Abbotsford Heat playoff roster, but hasn't played in any playoff games. Only 4 during the season--wonder if he is injured?

Looks like Denver Cup Tournament is history. When is the last time DU played Cornell? For us oldsters that represents the renewal of an old rivalry which primarily occurred in the NCAA tourney. BU and Cornell on back-to-back weekends. Old time hockey!

I know, I know!!!! 1986, the sea was angry that day my friends!! We had to get past Cornell to get to the NCAAs in Providence. Joe bleep'n Newendeick (sp?) almost single handedly destroyed us. We just squeaked by them, but came out of it badly bruised. Over 60% of our players were hurt by the time we played Harvard!!
