Re: All Things Denver XXXII

More fun to do than to watch... no top 10 from the last results flash the video link posted.
Somewhere there is a results page. Women's has been done for a couple of hours now.
Oh yeah, go to the schedule, select rankings and look at the last update date!

Can you provide link. Thanks

Both DU's women's teams are short a skier.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

How can anyone have any other coach of the year than Schlossman's pick of Hakstool?

It's pretty hard to argue against what Hakstol did this year. The Miller deflection, the ineligibility of St. Clair (more complicated than it sounds, and more of a glitch in the NCAA Clearinghouse than anything St. Clair did), the transfers of Bruneteau and Cichy, the injury losses for the season of Grimaldi, O'Donnell, Rodwell, and Dickin, injuries to Dell and Forbort that caused those two to miss significant time, combined with the issues surrounding the nickname, and the fact that they have just as many walk-ons and defensemen playing forward as they do scholarship forwards, all in addition to the fact that North Dakota graduated arguably one of its best classes ever, and this year's squad was extremely young...and they finish 4th...pretty good job if you ask me.

For full disclosure, I had a vote in that, and Lucia was my Runner-up, so I thought tDon had a great season, finally capitalizing on the talent that he has on that roster.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

I find it pretty hard to believe that the preseason ranks and final results of Minnesconsin and Tech far exceeded anything UND did. Schlossman's pick dropped my respect for him a lot.

The preseason ranks are really just a reflection of last season, with a sprinkle of foresight into the current season. They really don't mean anything. I think most UND fans knew this season would be a struggle (I had them 6th prior to the deflection of Miller to the CHL) for home ice, and given everything that happened, I can't believe they finished 4th. Minnesota and Tech were both impressive, but to think that Hakstol shouldn't be in the running and a legit choice for coach of the year is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion.

EDIT: Also you'll notice that several of the voters have picked Hakstol thus far...

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

sixth to fourth is nice, but far less than the other two. sure, add him to the mix, but as a final pick, no. Good thing i don't get a vote, unless we need final proof democracy simply doesn't work!

Looking only at improvement from expectations, and overlooking the struggles that a coach had to deal with is ignorant of what it takes to be a great coach. For example, to say George Gwozdecky had a poor season because they finished third as opposed to first is ridiculous. Gwoz had to overcome a variety of different situations through the course of the season, and did a very good job coaching this year to put the Pios in position to make another NCAA Tournament. Using your logic, he was arguably one of the worst coaches this year.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

I'd have gone with Connolly, Shore & Kristo as the forwards. Dmen & goalie are fine. Patterson got a ton of shutouts. I do think it was the weakest year for WCHA goalie depth in a long time.

Probably would have leaned towards Pearson as coach of the year, but I can see the merits of Lucia winning the WCHA from start to finish. Gwozdecky was a strong third IMO.

Finishing the season 1-5-2 really hurt Pearson I believe. Regardless, nobody saw Tech finishing in the top 8, and it was arguably the best coaching job of the season. IMO, there are 5 coaches worthy of consideration: Gwozdecky, Hakstol, Lucia, Motzko, and Pearson. They all have strong claims, and will probably all get consideration. It will be interesting to see who winds up taking the award.

Nice take. Right on point.

Jason Zucker. Scott Mayfield, and Jussi Olkonuora nominees for WCHA honors

Jim Dahl has plotted chances for PWR placements after this weekend's results. Obviously the sioux get top coverage, but keep reading. Props to Jim for all the work he's done.

2012 NTDP Tryout Camp

Jack Eichel, Jared Fiegl, and Joe Wegwerth are also top forwards that were part of the U.S. Youth Olympic Team. Eichel tied for the team lead with six points (2g-4a), while Wegwerth posted four points (2g-2a) and Denver-recruit Fiegl put up a goal and an assist. All three have really good size and could be forces during this camp.

LaLeggia also becomes the first ever defensmen to make the All-WCHA First Team and the All-Rookie Team in the same season. The only other skater to do so was Dany Heatley in 1999-2000. A few different goalies have done so, most recently in CC with Richard Bachman in 2007-2008.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII
