Re: All Things Denver XXXII

DU at the break this year is 8-7-3 with 18 games played, exactly half of the regular season. Last season at the break, DU was 12-5-3 with 20 games played. They went 9-5-2 the rest of the season to finish 21-10-5 before the playoffs. To replicate last season's record DU has to go 13-3-2 in the second half. Realisticly to make the NCAAs, you need at least 20 regular season wins. DU has their work cut out for them in the 2nd half of the season.

Aaarrrgggggg!!! I hate this .500 crap!! I guess we've been spoiled for so long. We also had high expectations for this team. The day we heard the announcement about Brittain is when it all started to unravel. I need an optimist out there, Viz??, Dubbie, somebody help!!!!

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Positive thoughts:
Sam Brittain should be back in 2012
Adam Murray should be back in 2012
Jussi Olkinuora has exceeded our expectations in 2011 and will be pushing the top 2 for playing time in 2012.
John Ryder will be back in 2012. (I believe John has the JP Testwuide state of mind, he will play no matter what this his last year at DU.)
Beau Bennett should be back in 2012.
Pios don't have to go to Houghton and play Tech during Winter Carnival.
Pios do go to Anchorage, but UAA streams all their games for FREE!

New Year's Eve--USA vs Canada at the World Juniors!
(For those of us in the west, it won't conflict with the Times Square ball drop:))

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

My big disappointment over losses, has recently turned into tempered expectations for the season. It's quite possible that the team won't gel in a timely fashion, that they'll be fighting for a spot in the NCAA's, and that they'll suffer a first or second round exit if they make it. That seems probable to me.

HOWEVER....just because my expectations are tempered, doesn't mean I've given up hope. Getting Brittain, Ryder and Bennett back could provide a big boost. Plus, it's undeniable that DU is a very talented team. We've got Zucker, the Shores, Makowski, LaLeggia, etc. Teams with that kind of talent are often capable of stringing together a lot of wins when they get rolling. If the 04 team can do it, so can this one.

So...here I sit...hoping (but no longer expecting) a roll. I'm also hoping for some butter with that roll.

Many good shots for Zucker in the 1st period against the Russians last night. No goals. USA PP 0-6.
Switzerland tonight 7:30 MT.

Maybe team USA is using DU's power play model.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

USA wins 7-3 tonight. Zucker with two assists and an uh-oh moment when he took a hit on the shoulder. Warrior that he is he came right back. Played PP and PK as well as 5x5. Teamed with Coyle and Saad tonite.

Zucker has been wrecking havoc in this game, but can't quite bury his chances.

Coyle and Tinordi have worn the "unofficial" C in the first 2 pre-tournament games.

I'm very glad the Archibald kid made it. I was impressed with his play against UND a couple of weeks ago. He's a player we UND fans will be sorry slipped through our hands, I'm afraid, by the time his college career is over.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Description of our JZ from United States of Hockey. They have brief on each player on the team.
Jason Zucker – Las Vegas, Nev. — Dean Blais loves this kid, and so does just about everybody who watches him play. The guys he plays against? Well, yeah… they hate him. Zucker flies, he hits, he scores. He’ll talk a little trash here and there. Whatever edge Zucker can get, he finds it. That’s why he’s going to be a successful player at this tournament and beyond. It takes a special player to play in the World Juniors three times. Zucker fits that description pretty darn well. This could be a monster tournament for him.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

A couple of DU alums in NY tonight, Matt Carle is playing the Rangahs and Tyler Bozak is playing the Isles.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Did you all see that the DU hoops team won again? Are you guys going to send Boone to New Orleans?

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

I'm thinking George will do some shaking and baking for the upcoming games. Lots of possibilities for changes with Zucker gone, Any guesses on the lines?
Here's my best shot.

Doremus - D.Shore - Salazar
Mermis - N.Shore - Knowlton
Olzewski -Ostrow - Jackson
