I should think being in the WCHA for the first season, calling DU a rival should be an honor. Geographically, the two schools are not far apart, we are not in traditional hockey states like Minny, Mass etc. (I'm in Denver right now, so I'm talking like I live here), and we're neck and neck in the standings. Why not be rivals?, it adds more to the game. It almost sounds like you are offended to call us that.
Yeah, somebody in this equation has multiple NC's, league titles, playoff titles, NCAA tournament appearances and Frozen Four appearances and it ain't UNO. Maybe it's DU that should be offended at the prospect of this program that hasn't accomplished much being called a rival.
CC hasn't won much either![]()
Our little, underachieving buddies, are in a different category.
It's been a lot of fun this year as each series we learn about programs that (outside of Mankato) we didn't have a lot of history with. A lot of the posts about UNO have been spot on, and this should be an excellent series. Last year DU pasted UNO, and if I recall, they got out fast and kept the gas on. Faulkner has been a big story this year, its the first year in many that UNO has had a true # 1 goaltender from the start of the season. The scoring is quite balanced, goals can come from any of the lines. For the visitors, keep an eye on the all freshman line of Raubenheimer, Monpetit, and Walters. They're high energy, don't mind doing the dirty work, and all 3 can score. If you're travelling in, please feel free to ask for suggestions as far as eats and drinks. We'll do our best to show you the better ones around!
DU has to come out with a jump in their step. I'm guessing that UNO might be a little fatigued after their trip to Anchorage.
DU has given up the first goal in the game seven consecutive times. That can't happen on Friday. Get the lead on the road, settle down and wait for UNO to make mistakes or draw penalties. That's my gameplan. Let's hope they execute.![]()
Funny story about timeouts. That was a little weird on Saturday using our timeout halfway through the 2nd![]()

I'd also love to see early jump from the Pios, but that's been very, hard for this team to manufacture
Perhaps they need Jesse Martin to lead them out on the ice. Every time he's come on the ice since his injury (2 times), DU's won the game...
I'm all for that. The DU ticket office has told me that my tickets are behind the DU bench. I can live with that!
I once took my wife and my parents to a DU-UND game, and we sat right behind the benches. Needless to say, my wife and parents were none to pleased at every shift change, and the smell of sweaty hockey equipment.
From now on, my wife makes sure that we are nowhere near the benches when we go to games.
They get the full experience of the game. I'll tell me parents, they're so close to the action...they can smell it!![]()
It's definitely an experience that we'll never forget. You get used to it after about the first 5 minutes of each period...especially if the game is intense.
