Re: All Things Denver XXX

I blame your loss on Matt Carle. He should have kept his mouth shut instead of making that tweet yesterday about CC. :D Just kidding! In all seriousness, great season by DU and if DU and CC don't lose anything to the pros we might have ourselves quite a battle next year. Have a good summer and see you next year!

Re: All Things Denver XXX

According to the Grand Forks Herald:

"Fire alarms went off at Denver’s team hotel at 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. Sunday. Hotel workers said they were having kitchen problems."

Re: All Things Denver XXX

Nice to read all of these positive comments from our rivals!! I think now that we have the teams set I will rout for Duluth. On another note, how about this troll out there obsessing over UNH's loss!! Wow, I guess every fan base has one, but this one takes the cake. They will probably be taken off the boards or be buried on pages 2 and 3 by the time the reat of the nation wakes up, but he started like at least a dozen threads dedicated to mocking UNH. I'm afraid he's a Mainer too, ****.

Re: All Things Denver XXX

I was one of the few with DU allegiances that made it to Green Bay. Props to ND for the solid play, hope you guys finish the journey and win it all. I think your team was built for the full run this season. Two or three consecutive outstanding recruiting classes, depth across the board, the ability to play physically and with finesse, while DU right now only really has the latter. Attrition from a great game Saturday (props to WMU, too, great season and I'm proud as someone with connects there!) probably affected the final score but not the outcome. I thought DU had to play its best game of the season to have perhaps a 1/3 chance of winning yesterday, and the gas wasn't in the tank. Good effort, but the final 25-30 minutes showed the attrition from both Saturday's workout and ND's consistent pressure on Sunday.

Pies should look forward to next year with great anticipation, particularly if Zucker doesn't bolt. I think the season, and especially yesterday, showed the need for a true shutdown defenseman that can play big. They improved down the stretch, but I must confess that I still shudder when the Lee/Phillips pairing takes the blueline. I'm hoping they will keep developing and mature, but that pair makes a lot of coverage mistakes and bad decisions. As an on-ice player only, Frattin gets my nod for the Hobey. He probably won't get it because of the past citizenship issues (which after all, is supposed to be a key element of Hobey but I suspect gets overlooked at the NCAA level--it still counts big-time for high school awardees across the hockey playing part of the country). Frattin plays great at both ends of the ice, and the two Miami players are big scorers but are average at best defenders. And Genoway may be the best "quarterback defenseman" anywhere in college hockey. I enjoy watching him play.

I'll be watching the Minneapolis weekend from the comforts of home with good memories of a good college season. Now, let's get George his deserved reward, keep him at Magness, and let him build the next champion without being lured by State College or anyplace else. I'd be happy with any FF outcome that includes South Bend losing as soon as possible, but will have a warm spot for North Dakota after having met a lot of enthusiastic but respectful fans this weekend who know how to have a good time following their team. (And will look forward to Malone playing for the Avs soon!)

I was right, it's 10:45 ET and all of those threads have been taken off the boards!!

Re: All Things Denver XXX

Just thought I'd throw out Kudos to a few Denver players who made my sons weekend. We were in attendance at the Green Bay regional and prior to the championship game last evening when they came on to the ice for warmups, a DU player flipped a foam Frozen Four souviner puck that was signed by several players to my 6 year old son decked out in Sioux gear. Made him smile ear to ear. It has I think 4 signatures on it but the only one I can tell for sure is Luke Salazar. Unfortantly I didn't see who flipped the puck to him but a cool thing to do for kids and very much appreciated by this huge college hockey fan. Sometimes as fans we miss the little things these players do that have such a big impact on the young fans of this game. Congrats to Denver on the nice season!

Nice story, thanks for sharing that one. The really touching story is the WMU story about the 3 year old and his 5 year old brother. That has got to be the humanitarian story of the year. Do we have a great sport or what?

The lacrosse player in the press conference has a Boone on his shirt:

Random thoughts:

1) Is it just me, or has Brittain been giving up a lot of goals over his shoulder? Seems like a tough spot to shoot over a big goalie, but our opponents have had success with it.

2) I was pretty impressed how strong DU came out in the first period yesterday. Too bad we couldn't parlay that into a goal or two while we had the legs.

3) I wonder what the chances are, that Zucker comes back. Seems like Bennett, Drew Shore and Nick Shore are "sure things" to return. I'd put Donovan at 50-50--he sometimes looks like the best player on the ice, but I think another year of strength conditioning and defensive improvements could really benefit him. If all these guys come back, with Brittain in goal, Makowski a year older, Ryder and Lee coming back, and Scott Mayfield and other top recruits coming in, we could have a really great team.

It's too bad we're already talking about "next year," but the future looks good.

Agreed on all counts...if everyone comes back....Denver could be a favorite for the whole thing!

Re: All Things Denver XXX

Strictly a rumor but here is the link. Jaden Schwartz being courted by the Tri-City Americans of the WHL. I hope if he doesn't sign with St. Louis at least he stays at CC.

Re: All Things Denver XXX

I'm holding my breath about Zucker!!!

I think (and hope) that you'll be okay. IMO, Zucker is NHL ready, with a few spots for improvement, but I don't think the Wild will push him to come in. I hate seeing kids leave early, only to play 4/5ths of a season (or longer) in the AHL.

At first glance you'd say "no way" especially with the brother enrolled at CC. But with the possibility of family facing medical related expenses in the U.S., signing with St. Louis now gives Jaden an extra year of bonus money, a year closer to free agency and a way to help with some bills.

Sad situation if that's a factor in this, but these are the times we live in.

Besides, I don't want to break up Schwartz, Schwartz and Schultz. It sounds like Archie Bunker's Brooklyn law firm.
