Re: All Things Denver XXX

Get bent dude. I would rather make the tournament and have a chance. Most teams don't even get the chances that CC has had since the mid 90's. BTW, where is your team right now?

I must have been out of the loop for a while...who does bullitt support?

Re: All Things Denver XXX

I know - its just a bit of banter. I was absolutely stunned while watch you guys destroy BC. If you return your studs next season...I'll be VERY worried....so will the rest of the WCHA.
I'm guessing we'll get one more year out of Jaden, but that will likely be all.

Ok, I have been thinking about this for a while. Is Colorado College still our biggest rival??? We all know the history and the proximity of the 2 schools. However, recent history shows a much more violent and nasty series of events. Denver vs CC is huge...dont get me wrong...but allow me to give my points as to why Denver vs. UND is now one of the nastiest and hard fought is college hockey.

1. Serious injuries - Robbie Bina and Jessie Martin both with serious spinal/neck injuries resulting from hits.
2. Gwozdecky being tossed by Todd Anderson twice against UND - including the famous march.
3. The overall physicality of the match up. These guys aren't trying to hit each other into the boards, they're trying to hit each other THROUGH THE BOARDS.
4. The HUGE games these 2 teams have played. 2005 final 5. 2005 NCAA Final. 2011 WCHA Final...to name a few.

These 2 teams HATE each other. I'm not sure if there is really any respect either. I'm not sure how the coaches feel either. I know they won't say anything publicly...but I have a feeling that Gwoz and Hakstol are not too fond of each other!!!

The rivalry with CC is a special rivalry however, the 2 teams share a mutual respect. We don't like each other, but we respect each other for the most part.
You guys might have a more intense rivalry with UND of late given the bad blood between the two and the more recent big games. Even in 2005, when DU and CC were clearly the two best teams in the country all year, there seemed to be absolute respect. Heck, they took the same flight to and from St. Paul for the Final Five that year! I also get the impression that the Testwuide brothers helped in regards to the mutual respect. As a CC fan, there is no one I would rather see my team beat than DU, and nobody I hate losing to more. But I have an immense respect for the program.

My email exchange with the CC AD about Jesse Martin, and the fact that CC had a quick statement about him during the lineup announcements in November was proof enough for me of the respect that exists between the two programs. I believe that if the situation had been reversed, DU would have handled it the same way. I don't know that we could say that for most rivalries.

Completely agree with you there. I think the CC program is a very classy program with Owens at the helm...shame he shaved the moustache!!! All joking aside though, when CC made the announcement in November for Jesse it was a very thoughtful and respectful thing to do. I feel the same way about winning and losing against CC, but I will always have respect for the program...also...the Golden Bee is definitely the best post game destination in College Hockey!

Re: All Things Denver XXX

The most classless coach in all of college hockey. Mike Eaves.

Tell me how you really feel about Mr. Eaves!!! ;)
You won't find a CC fan who pays attention, who feels otherwise. Absolutely classless goon of a coach.

As for Bullitt, yeah, it takes a lot to come onto the DU thread and rip CC. Especially when CC ended your team's season.

Re: All Things Denver XXX

Whatever, man. We hold our heads high. CC wasn't expected to do anything this year, yet they made it to the second round of the tourney by annihilating a great BC team that kicked your asses twice on your home ice and has been the top program in the nation in recent years.

With all respect to CC, They were responsible for the "Ylae skating circles around the WHCA" talk as well.

Fair enough. But I will say that it was early and CC had not come close to finding their game yet. I was actually hoping for a CC/Yale first round matchup in order to get some revenge.

DU Injury Update

LINEUP CHANGES
Left wing Chris Knowlton is a game-time decision with an upper body injury. Knowlton would be replaced by Joey Brehm if he's unable to play.

Re: All Things Denver XXX

Well, for a young team, it was a fun ride. Thanks for the Memories Seniors! Onwards and upwards next season!

Re: All Things Denver XXX

I just wanted to wish a sincere congrats on an outstanding season, DU.
Many people were expecting this to be a down year for DU, but Denver showed great skill and maturity in being one of the best teams in college hockey all year. Challenging UND all season long for the MacNaughton and the Broadmoor...I keep feeling that this game today would have been better suited for St Paul. It's unfortunate that they got stuck in the same regional.

As always, I would expect DU to be great again next season, especially if Zucker sticks around. He is a very special player.
Congrats again on a great season.

Thanks Brian, UND has lived up to their pre-season billing. I have them as the heavy favorite to win it all. If Notre Dame can beat UNH tonight, the FF will have all WCHA or former WCHA teams in it. DU gave it their all today after playing double overtime yesterday. They just didn't have enough gas in the tank. Congrats to all the seniors on a great job leading a very young team. This team has exceeded everyone's expectations and will only get better. I see them being a top 2 pre-season favorite.

Re: All Things Denver XXX

Great season for Denver.

Zucker was one of my very favorite players the last two World Juniors. Especially as a 17 year old on the Gold winning team.
