Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

"Where did Kane's shot wind up?" "Well, uh, it's in the net." Case closed.
During Bobby Hull's career, it was common knowledge that he lost several goals a year because they went in and came out so quickly, and nobody saw it. In Kane's case, it was in the net, game over.

If the puck goes in the net after the play was blown dead its obviously not a goal. The Flyer goalie could have frozen the puck and then inadvertently knocked it in goal after the whistle. "No ref signal, no goal light" (they didn't see it go in), so the refs went to replay.

Air Force was knocked out of the NCAA's ('09) after the puck went through the netting. So that's example of the puck not being in the net but a goal being awarded via replay.

What if a puck had been lodged under the goal padding during warm-ups or between periods? Flyer goalie makes the save, puck gets stuck in his equipment on Kane's shot. Ref skates over sees a puck in the net.

Puck being in the net is not reason enough not to go to replay.

University of Denver senior Tyler Ruegsegger (Lakewood, Colo.) hockey standout was named to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Men's At-Large First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Here's the link to the full release from CoSIDA. Ruegsegger is mentioned at the bottom of Page 1 and on the next page. Eli V from Michigan Tech is on the 2nd Team. Greening from Cornell and Knelsen from Alaska Fairbanks are the other First Team Hockey players.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

My brother-in-law was photographing a wedding at Navy Pier the other day when what apparently was most if not all of the Hawks players showed up with the Cup. I haven't seen yet, but he said he got some good pics of the cup. Of course, hopefully he still got good pics of the wedding, too.

No matter how implausible, you've listed some possibilities that would have accounted for the puck being in the net at the end. However, Occam's Razor suggests the most likely: it was a goal. And, in fact, that's the decision they came to. All I've said, and I'll say it to my dying day, is that it looked like a goal the whole way to me and there was no big mystery about it. BTW, what game was the goal judge watching? His duty is to turn on the light when a puck crosses the line, period. The referees sort out whether it did so legally or not.

I've posted before about the goal Cliff Koroll scored on Clarkson midway through the 3rd in the '66 national semis. Would have given DU a 4-3 lead. But nobody saw it. However, the Clarkson kid who was in the box was so dazzled by the "save" that he came out. Coach Lenny Ciglarski was so impressd by the "save" that he threw a stick on the ice. And the Clarkson goalie was so tickled with his "save" that he flipped the puck out of the rink. Oh yes, and one of the refs blew his whistle. But no goal, no icing, etc and no penalty.

Ex-DU player Scott McConnell is the video coordinator for the U-20 team this year.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Can anyone advise if it'll be hard to get tix for the home series vs BC in October? I may be in the area, how far ahead do I have to plan?

That figures to be a very big weekend series and sellouts are likely, but tickets are not impossible to get if you have a little dilligence.

The first strategy I would try is to contact the BC ticket office and see if you can get a seat through the BC visitors' ticket alotment. Considering that few BC players have family out here, your chances might be pretty good to snag one, and sometimes, they are even free. You might also look into the BC Alumni association and see if they are planning a Denver alumni event around the game (they might have some group tickets).

Denver Pioneers individual game seating usually goes online through ticketmaster in September. https://www.nmnathletics.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=18600&ATCLID=1389586 You'll pay the evil surcharges, but there should be at least 1,000 seats avaliable when they go sale.

If those sources don't work, there are usually scalpers around the arena on game night.

You can usually score pretty good tickets on Ticketmaster on the day they go on sale.

DU sells mostly Friday or Saturday season ticket packages so very good seats are usually available on either night.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Thanks, guys. BC has a policy that if you aren't a season ticket holder, you aren't eligible for away tickets. (No, despite being an obsessive fan with 12,000+ USCHO posts, I am not a season ticket holder.) So Ticketmaster it is.. I'll check back a bit later.

Thanks again.

I heard that the 1968/69 DU hockey team will be inducted into the DU Hall of Fame this coming year.
