Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Here's the link to the DU Hall of Fame announcement on the DU website.

This will make the 5th DU hockey team to be inducted into the Hall.

The first 4 were:
1959-60
1960-61
1967-68
1957-58

All 5 teams won national championships.

1968-69 Hockey Team - Special Team

The Pioneers captured their second of back-to-back NCAA championships when the 1968-69 team, coached by Murray Armstrong, defeated Cornell and legendary goaltender Ken Dryden, 4-3, in the final. Captains Keith Magnuson, Craig Patrick and Tom Miller, and goaltender Gerry Powers led the Pioneers to a 26-6 record, the WCHA playoff championship and a wire-to-wire No. 1 ranking. Members of the championship team included: Rich Blanche, Frank Daly, Allan Genovy, Tom Gilmore, Tim Gould, Ed Hamilton, Dan Helm, Gerry Jonasson, Terry Leifson, George Morrison, Bill Pettinger, Lynn Powis, John Saville, Don Thiessen, Bob Trembecky, Randy Ward, Dale Zeman, assistant coach Harry Ottenbreit, athletic trainer Gene Bradshaw, manager Tom Sampson, Magnuson, Miller, Patrick and Powers.

Apparently DU senior-to-be Josh Rosenholtz will be one of DU's goalies this year. He played prep hockey at the Proctor Academy in New Hampshire and entered DU in 2006/07. I found this on the DU website under the 2010/11 roster which at the moment is only listing new players. He apparently was on the DU roller hockey team. He hasn't been assigned a number yet according to the roster. It also looks like Nick Shore will wear Drew's #23 from last season. Drew must have picked a new number for this upcoming season.

Code:
9 Beau Bennett F 6-1 180 Fr. Gardena, Calif. (Penticton Vees - BCHL)
1 Sam Brittain G 6-3 210 Fr. Calgary, Alberta (Canmore Eagles - AJHL)
10 David Makowski D 6-0 205 Fr. Wildwood, Mo. (Green Bay Gamblers - USHL)
22 Jarrod Mermis F 5-7 165 Fr. Alton, Ill. (Lincoln Stars - USHL)
27 Dan Olszewski F 6-0 190 Fr. Janesville, Wis. (St. Louis - NAHL)
Josh Rosenholtz G 5-8 170 Sr. Ridgefield, Conn. (Proctor Academy (NEPSIHA))
23 Nick Shore F 6-0 185 Fr. Denver, Colo. (USNTDP)
17 Jason Zucker F 5-10 170 Fr. Las Vegas, Nev. (USNTDP)

Nick Shore wore #23 for Team USA U18 Championship. Maybe Drew thought #23 would be a good omen for Nick. Don't know what Drew's number was before DU. Maybe 9, 12, 15, 28...

Does the inclusion of Josh Rosenholtz mean we have seen the last of Lars? Or is this a tryout for the 3rd goalie?

Bennett claimed 9 but 12, 15 and 28 are open.

Not sure about Lars, but Brittain and Murray will be fighting it out for the starting job. I doubt it is a tryout for the 3rd goalie as he wouldn't be on the roster. I saw a June 2010 post on a BC goalie school site that congratulated Josh for making the NCAA. Maybe Lars just wants to finish out his senior year by just going to school.

First round of NHL daft tonight is at 7PM EDT on Versus. Second round begins at 1PM EDT Saturday on the NHL Netwrok. My predictions Bennett to Nashville at #18 and Zucker to the Islanders at #35.

Other numbers now available are 25, 22,17 and 27.(Brookwell, Gifford, Glasser and Vossberg). I'm guessing 22. Then Drew and Nick would be in order both numerically and alphabetically. ;)

Add: Saw pictures of Drew wearing #s 15, 21, and 94. Of these only #15 is available.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

I see Bennett being drafted in the 1st round by a team that has two first round picks. That means either Florida (#3,#15), Phoenix (#13,#22), Anaheim (#12,#29) or Chicago (#24,#30).

Bennett - Anaheim @ #29 is the most likely spot.

Zucker - #43 in the 2nd round by Chicago.

Brittain - #108 in the 4th Round by Calgary

Bennett--LA Kings @#19 or Anaheim@#29--California boy makes good press
Zucker--in the 30s
Brittain--pick a number--but Calgary sounds good

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Beau Bennett selected #20 by Pittsburgh Penguins
Sid the Kid and Beau the Boy ;)
( Comment from Justintv chat: Beau is better looking than Sid.)

Congrats to Beau and the entire Bennett family.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Bennett claimed 9.
No coincidence there.

Gabe Gauthier's old number. Not sure if Gabe and Beau are friends but the parents know each other. Beau also followed Gabe's footsteps by playing in the BCHL and then coming to Denver.

DU-Pittsburgh connection. Chevy & Sid played together growing up and we all saw Sid at the Penguins draft table. Funny that last year reporters kept asking Sid about Chevy. You never know.... :D

Probably likely that Beau and Sid had dinner together last night with the Penguins Brass.

Rock also wore 9 so it has belonged to California for the last 8 years.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

haven't seen this on here yet:

"Josiah Didier (1993 defenseman), an assistant captain, for the 2010 National Champion Colorado Thunderbird U16 Tier 1 team, has accepted a full scholarship to play for the University of Denver starting in the 2012-2013 season. Josiah will be playing for Cedar Rapids of the USHL in the upcoming season. Josiah will be joining another Thunderbird player, Daniel Doremus, at the University of Denver. Daniel committed to the Pioneers this past March."

from here.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Zucker drafted 59th by Wild (2nd round).

The Wild are not noted for selecting college bound players, maybe they are changing their ways.

Congrats to Jason and his family for being a 2nd round pick.
