Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Holy smokes!! I didn't know we lost in a final game! That could have made it 8 national Championships!! First of all, who was on that team? And secondly how many other finals have we lost?

We lost NCAA title games in 1963, 1964 and 1973. '63 was to North Dakota in Chestnut Hill, Mass. (although we've beaten UND 3 times for NCAA crowns). 1964 was to Michigan on our home ice!

So we could have had 10 National championships which would make us tops in the NCAA. However, Mich and UND probably have their share of losses too, so, never mind!!

Nice interview.

Chambers also reporting 2012 DU recruit Dan Doremus to play in the USHL next year.

Did anyone else hear the love for Matt on ESPN the other night? He had just made a good play when the announcer said something like " Matt Carle has had a sensational series. University of Denver product and Hobey Baker winner in 2006..." Then Toews lost his helmet and distracted the announcer. He was about to say more. I bet he gets a pay raise for next season, what do you think?

Matt has 2 more years on his contract after this season at $3.5 million and $3.8 million. He made $3.5 million this past season. With him under contract for 2 more years I don't see Philly wanting to give him a raise especially in the current cap environment. Philly is only $800,000 under the cap and have to deal with Gagne and Carter after next season as they become free agents. They have Briere, Richards and Pronger already signed to long term deals.

No surprise there.

Sioux Falls would never have taken him in the 1st round of the USHL Draft if they didn't have a prior agreement that he would be playing for them.

The Sioux Falls GM said that he thought that Doremus was one of the top three players available in the USHL Draft so it will be interesting to see his stats in the next two years.

Stanley Cup Finals
First 5 games
Who would've thought?
Matt Carle 1-2-3 -1
Jonathan Toews 0-2-2 -4

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Matt Carle's first Stanley Cup Finals are over. 1-12-13 +6
The Philadelphia-Chicago Cup series was exciting and even more so because a "hometown" boy was playing.

DU's Blackhawk connection must be celebrating, with good cause. I only wish they would have won at the United Center where the Blackhawks #3 could have been part of the celebration.

Matt played well and got a lot of love from NBC. But as a native Chicagoan I'm delighted that the Hawks have come all the way back from being the worst team in the league, to the best. Frankly, I didn't understand the confusion over Kane's GWG. It was a scorcher, but it was clearly in and no replay was necessary, IMHO.

Only two people in the whole arena saw the puck go in the net in real time and they both played on the Blackhawks. A strange goal to be sure and why you need replay.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Could Matt Donovan look any cooler on the homepage? I'm so afraid we're gonna lose him prematurely, a la Chris Butler, Matt Carle, Brett Skinner and Patrick Weircoch!! Geeeeez!!!

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

I was at Game Six in Philadelphia (a pre-scheduled business meeting there made it possible) and it was one of the most amazing game atmospheres I've experienced in a long time. While the Olympics feel celebratory and joyous, the Cup Final was louder and more tense-feeling.

The GWG was almost like life stopped for 20 seconds for 99% of the people in the building. Kane and few teammates were celebrating, no red light, no ref signal and anticipation changing to shock and dejection.

As a former Philadelphian, this loss hurt becuase the Flyers had really fought back against a much more talented Hawks' team. In the end, though, the last two games were Hawk-dominated and the better team won. Also, when I lived in Chicago, I had Hawks tickets, and I am glad if the Flyers had to lose, it was to a team and city waiting 49 years...

NCAA Runner-up (5): 1958, 1968, 1979, 2001, 2005
Other trips to NCAA semi-finals (6): 1965, 1967, 1984, 2006, 2007, 2008

WCHA Regular Season Champions (14):
1958, 1963, 1965, 1967, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1987, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2004, 2009

WCHA Playoff Champions (9):

"Where did Kane's shot wind up?" "Well, uh, it's in the net." Case closed.
During Bobby Hull's career, it was common knowledge that he lost several goals a year because they went in and came out so quickly, and nobody saw it. In Kane's case, it was in the net, game over.

We've been to more title games (12) than any other team, although Minnesota and Michigan are just 1 behind us in that stat. We've lost to DU 3 times, Minnesota once and BC once.
