Power play - DU still making too many passes and not taking shots. A number of times last night they tried the back door pass that got tipped wide by a d-man when the passer had a grade A shot at the goal. Have to put the puck on net more. They are not having a problem possessing the puck on the PP just shooting it. Also when the puck is on the point they are waiting too long to shot. Get the puck and let it go right away instead of dekeing the d-man or checker.
I was hoping for a 12-part series that would delve into events like "The Smuggled Keg At The Game Incident," "The UMD Coffin Game," and "The five goal comeback against CC."
Anyway its nice that people at DU find out about the blog and just a few of the large number of people that make it happen each day.
Sophomore goaltender Adam Murray (1-1-0, 4.50 GAA, .859 Sv%) and forwards Dustin Jackson (mononeucleosis), Nick Shore (wrist) and Jarrod Mermis (groin) are out of the lineup this weekend.
First WCHA weekend and we get 3 points. Not bad, not bad at all.
Next weekend we go to the Ralph and since the Bears got them, no doubt they will be on the warpath.
Halloween in Grand Forks![]()
There's never a good time to play in that gold plated spittoon, but this weekend shapes up as especially tough. If we can get out of there with a couple of points I'll be hugely satisfied. I understand they're planning to give us a Haloween scare by dressing up as normal people. Oooeeeooo.
Knowing that slow starts are part of life at UND, perhaps this is the better time for DU to be facing the Sioux vs Late January. UND is loaded, and will certainly get better, but losing two at Maine is not unusual. DU got waxed big time there to start the year in 2005, as Maine was frothing after losing the 2004 NC to DU.

Right now, DU looks very banged up. Jackson and N Shore are likely out for next weekend, and Murray and Mermis have groin pulls. Martin doesn't look right, at least to my eyes. Wrenn only played a few minutes last weekend as he comes back from a torn hammy, and K. Ostrow was also playing hurt. That's 6-7 guys right there.
If Brittain can continue to hold teams to two goals and the seniors lead, DU has a shot to get points in Grand Forks. At this point, DU exceeded expectations in Vermont, performed below expectations vs BC and slightly above expectations vs UW.
We're getting an early start on our injury "explanations," and I find that worrisome. We've got a lot of people hurt. And if that thug from Wisconsin had his way, Zucker ("coincidentally" our best player) could have been seriously hurt. Cross checking a guy on his knees in the face, AFTER the whistle had blown is one of the cheaper shots I've ever seen. I found myself wishing that Maggie's ghost would rip that guy's head off and crap down his neck. We can't afford much more of this. And, wouldn't you know it, we're heading up to play UND in that plush dumpster of theirs. Getting out of there with points may be out of the question. Getting out of there with no more serious injuries may be the goal.
