Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Not yet. DU hasn't released the 2011 lax schedule yet. I saw this game on Duke's schedule, and it just said Bethpage with a time TBA.

Since there are no colleges or public stadiums in Bethpage, I assume it will probabaly be at Bethpage High School. I am surprised that the game is not booked at the Mitchel Athletic Complex which is located just northwest of the Nassau Coliseum. Here is a quote about that facility from Duke's coach that is on the facility's website.

Duke University lacrosse coach John Danowski recently told Newsday that the new lacrosse field at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale is the “best public venue around.” The artificial turf field, installed in 2007, is located in Mitchel Stadium and is also designed for use by football and soccer teams.

Danowski, the former coach at Hofstra University, was at Mitchel Stadium for a game with Dartmouth University on March 29. Duke, which sports one of the top lacrosse programs at the college level, defeated Dartmouth in that game, 16-9, in front of 6,500 fans.

Other college lacrosse teams that have played on the new field include Cornell University, Navy and Nassau Community College. The Long Island Lizards, of Major League Lacrosse, are scheduled to play at Mitchel on May 17, 2008.

I would expect a sellout in Lax crazy Long Island. This game will do wonders for DU's visibilty and recruiting on Long Island as it is being played in the heart of high school lacrosse. Bill has set up a direct strike in the home of U.S. High School lacrosse.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

DU Lax team will make 5 trips to the East coast this spring to play Syracuse, Loyola, Sacred Heart, Hobart and Duke. Their only onther road trip is to Louisville, KY to play Bellarmine.

The Duke game is also the same day as the Frozen Four Final in St. Paul.

Injury update - Dusty Jackson (mono) and Nick Shore (wrist) are out for a couple of more weeks. Adam Murray (groin) is doubtful for this weekend.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

DU recruits forward Garrett Allen and defenseman Scott Mayfield both made the Team USA roster for the World Junior "A" Challenge in November in British Columbia. Congrats to both of them. Both are scheduled to join the Pios next season.

DU recruit defenseman Joey Laleggia made the Canada West Team for the same tourney. Congrats to Joey. He will also be joining the Pios next season.

Re: All Things Denver, XXVIII

Just listened to Gwoz's weekly press conference. Here are some injury updates.

Nick Shore (wrist) - at least 2 weeks away

Dusty Jackson (mono) - He thinks he is still 3 to 4 weeks away. He hasn't been cleared to do any excercise and is still highly fatigued.

Paul Phillips (nosebleeds) - He has been admitted to the hospital with persistent nosebleeds. He doesn't think it is anything of a serious nature but he is doubtful for this weekend.

Adam Murray (groin) - Highly doubtful as the injury has been slow to heal.

Jarrod Mermis (groin) - Will be back this weekend.

Justin Jones - Has to still be cleared by the NCAA, can't practice or play games until he is cleared.

Gwoz was real pleased with last weekend in taking 3 points. Still sees areas that need improvement including the power play. Looking forward to a battle with UND. Surprised to see the goaltenders at UND play so poorly last weekend.

With 5 players not able to go this weekend, all 22 healthy players will probably make the roadie.
