All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Did a little research and DU had 10 players in the NHL in 1975-76. That is two more than the current 8 that DU has now. These guys played at DU in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Magnuson
Patrick
Venasky
Palmer
Affleck
Bragnalo
McNab
LoPresti
Christie
Lampman

They also had 7 in the WHA
Preston
Grahame
Morenz
Morrison
Wiste
Powis
Noris

Of those 7 Preston and Grahame went onto the NHL when it folded. Wiste, Morrison and Powis had already played in the NHL before the WHA. Another player from the early 70's who also made the NHL was Mike Busniuk in 1979-80.

Cliff Koroll, Tom Miller, Jim Shires? Cliff had a long career with Chicago. Tom had a couple of seasons with the Islanders. And Shires played for Detroit. They may have retired by '75-'76

These guys made up the "big" line that started every game in the '67-'68 NC season. They would back check your t*ts off. Even the Russians didn't score against them.

Forward Troy Terry from the U-16 Colorado Thunderbirds committed to DU yesterday. Looks like he will be coming in either 2015 or 2016. Edit: Heisenberg has him coming in 2015.

Announcement by the Thunderbirds site says when he is coming is undetermined.

An older article on him.

In March 2010 Terry was 5' and weighed 92 lbs. At the beginning of this season he stood 5'7" and weighed 130. Seven inches and almost 40 lbs in 2 1/2 yrs, doesn't turn 16 until September. Probably still growing with parents 5'9" and 6'0".

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

How about Florida's new top line for the game tonight
Jonathan Huberdeau - Drew Shore - Peter Mueller

****, I can't believe I missed Cliff  Jim and Tom had ended their NHL careers before 75-76.

That line went for being #2 to #1. Also Florida called up Jakob Markstrom to play goal as Theodore and Clemmensen have been sieves.

I have a fond memory of Cliff "taking a nap" in his hotel room bath tub after celebrating the '68 NC. He had a tryout with the Denver Bears, and after losing several balls over the left field wall, they offered him a contract on the spot.

A solid, 2-way player, Cliff had 208 goals and 254 assists in his long career with the Blackhawks. He never even made first team all-WCHA!

Shore now #15 on FL, so I guess its Welcome To South Beach!! FL leads Philly 4-0 late in the 2nd and his line has 3 of the 4 goals. He has an apple and is +1.

That would be good. And we should also remember, good things come in small packages. Do dah name Rocco Grimaldi ring a bell?

From what I can tell this kid is on USA Hockey's radar, possible USNDT team before DU.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Florida beats Flyers 5-2, Shore's line with 8 points, Drew with 2 assists.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Before the DU game begins tonight, florida takes on pittsburgh or...
Drew Shore 14 1-6-7 +3 vs Beau Bennett 3 0-0-0 +1

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

I would sure love to seed a sweep. I don't expect one but ilk be in the house tomorrow. It would make for one hell of a weekend.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Pre-game festivities include:
Bozak vs Wiercioch
(Leafs vs Sens in Ottawa)

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Check out the highlights
Finnish Eyes Are Smiling at about the 1:45 mark!

"Nothing like fun at the old ballpark."

I think "hang on" accurately describes it. I kept waiting for UND to tie it. That's two phenomenal saves by Jussi against these guys. And two points as a result.

Has anyone figured out why Gwoz was so hot? TV speculated, but didn't clearly nail it down.

Yeah, I have no idea why Gwoz was P.O.'d after the goal. I didn't see any interactions between the teams after the goal was scored. Actually, it was nice to see a clean game between the teams without the usual B.S.

Great win, great effort by Jussi with a couple of amazing saves. Loney looked strong, drove the net well, and made an outstanding hit in the 3rd period. He just needs to be more careful with the puck sometimes (see the shortie that UND scored).

Predicted hero for tonight: Matt Tabrum. Good luck, let's get the sweep!
