All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

I'm getting ready to head down to Mustard's Last Stand for a pregame meal. Here's hoping for a DU sweep.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

What are DU fans thoughts on Mayfield? I expected a good solid dman this weekend but saw nothing but a cheap hack. Is he always like that?

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

I'm sure bad penalties played a big part in this loss, but the thing that was painfully obvious to me was the HORRENDOUS power play. I have never seen a worse DU power play over the course of one game. Three PP in a row, and absolutely zero good chances. Clearly the coaches need to work up something new, because that was just terrible.

Goals in the last 10 seconds of two different periods hurt the cause. But surprisingly enough, DU was still in the game after those. Nobody stepped up to make a play.

I guess momentum doesn't count for much in college hockey. It's just so random how bad a team will be, when you expect that they will come with their A game.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

That was an ugly game.
If we don't watch out those undisciplined penalties will get us a "goon" reputation.
We are now #1 in penalty minutes averaging 18 a game. 557 in 31 games
Big Ouch!

It should be a good match. You have the '99 National Champions against a team that could very well have won the National Championship had they been allowed to play in the NCAA Tournament.

Mayfield's first penalty came during a stoppage of play! Rabbit ears will get you every time. PP was ineffectual, to be sure, but part of that has to be attributed to the "Hostile and Abusives." No? I'm hopeful but not optimistic about playing on the "ocean of ice" next week in rodentland. I would surely like someone to crosscheck Rau into the cheap seats as payback for what he did to JZ last year. Punk.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

I just skimmed through the DVR of last night's game, and I - being the expert hockey evaluator that I am - think Danny Doremus should not have been given a major penalty for that hit. Yes DU takes alot of dumb penaltys, but those referees were pretty marginal. I also enjoyed watching the Mayfield's scrum at the very end; it reminded me once again why I love the college game so much. These are boys. They don't really hate each other. During that entire incident, Scott and the UND guy were smiling, laughing and their jaws were flapping. I've seen NHL and Pro-Minor league hits, scrums, fights... and sometimes there's REAL hatred. The kids at the collegiate level are just having old time hockey fun. Some of these so-called "rivals" played together as mites, bantam, juniors; and although they wear different jerseys now - later this summer, they could be roommates at an NHL development camp, and one day could very well be blood brothers on an NHL team, hoisting the Stanley Cup together. It's really intriguing.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Beau Bennett just scored his first NHL goal for Pittsburgh who leads Tampa Bay and Matt Carle 4-2.

You have to give credit to UND's coaching staff. The adjustments they made to their kill were the difference. Friday night DU moved the puck at will during the PP. Saturday UND pressured our D and prevented a smooth cycle. DU had no answer for it.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades...
Drew Shore, who set up Kopecky for the Panthers goal, looked to have his second of the season. With Tuukka Rask out of position on the initial shot, and Shore crashing the net, the forward got a piece of the puck and it slid toward the goal line. A backchecking Tyler Seguin swept the puck out of harms way just before it hi the goal line and turned up the ice. The horn went off briefly and Shore celebrated but it was inches too early of calling it a good goal.

"Getting outscored by a 4-1 final, the Panthers had only one plus player on the night as Drew Shore was the only player to stay in the positive."

Shake off Saturday, get in a good week of practice, and sweep the goofs.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

The video ends, but it looks like he celebrated that goal like he'd done it before. I always like to see that.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

DU up to #12 in PWR with Penn State's upset of Wisconsin tonight.

Dear God, please forgive me for thinking, let alone saying, anything that any rodent lover anywhere might find offensive about one of their precious sweet boys. Amen.

P.S. Lord: please let the rodent lovers/defenders/jock sniffers of the world know what tu quoque argumentation is, so they can stop embarrassing themselves.

Oh, and Lord, this weekend please let somebody lower the boom on that cheap shot artist Rau, and knock his dik in the dirt.

No need for Old Pious prayers. What goes around always comes around. Rau's hit was obviously payback for Zucker's gooner...that's already paid in full.:D
