What are DU fans thoughts on Mayfield? I expected a good solid dman this weekend but saw nothing but a cheap hack. Is he always like that?
The next game will pit the 1977-1978 Denver Pioneers (#69) against the 1998-1999 Maine Black Bears (#60) in a Midwest Regional matchup to determine who gets to take on the 1990-1991 Northern Michigan Wildcats in the Round of 64. Puck Drop - TBD (not today)Posted 2/23/13
It should be a good match. You have the '99 National Champions against a team that could very well have won the National Championship had they been allowed to play in the NCAA Tournament.
That was an ugly game.
If we don't watch out those undisciplined penalties will get us a "goon" reputation.
We are now #1 in penalty minutes averaging 18 a game. 557 in 31 games
Big Ouch!
I'm sure bad penalties played a big part in this loss, but the thing that was painfully obvious to me was the HORRENDOUS power play. I have never seen a worse DU power play over the course of one game. Three PP in a row, and absolutely zero good chances. Clearly the coaches need to work up something new, because that was just terrible.
.
Drew Shore, who set up Kopecky for the Panthers goal, looked to have his second of the season. With Tuukka Rask out of position on the initial shot, and Shore crashing the net, the forward got a piece of the puck and it slid toward the goal line. A backchecking Tyler Seguin swept the puck out of harms way just before it hi the goal line and turned up the ice. The horn went off briefly and Shore celebrated but it was inches too early of calling it a good goal.
You have to give credit to UND's coaching staff. The adjustments they made to their kill were the difference. Friday night DU moved the puck at will during the PP. Saturday UND pressured our D and prevented a smooth cycle. DU had no answer for it.
Mayfield's first penalty came during a stoppage of play! Rabbit ears will get you every time. PP was ineffectual, to be sure, but part of that has to be attributed to the "Hostile and Abusives." No? I'm hopeful but not optimistic about playing on the "ocean of ice" next week in rodentland. I would surely like someone to crosscheck Rau into the cheap seats as payback for what he did to JZ last year. Punk.

Right and Zucker was such an angel on the ice too.http://youtu.be/dCR3PxvuSA4 Same type of hit and no penalty??
Oh, and Lord, this weekend please let somebody lower the boom on that cheap shot artist Rau, and knock his dik in the dirt.
No need for Old Pious prayers. What goes around always comes around. Rau's hit was obviously payback for Zucker's gooner...that's already paid in full.![]()
