All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Some things to be happy about. At the beginning of the season, how many of us thought that DU, in February, would be 5th in the nation in scoring (and this despite our leading point scorer being tied for 42nd)? Or 8th in the nation in Power Play percentage? Or that Juho Olkinuora would be 8th in the nation in save percentage (this one is a bit less surprising, but still...)?

Unfortunately, a lot of us thought that this team would lean on defense to keep a low-scoring offense in games. Despite being 8th nationally for save percentage, Jussi is 18th for GAA. The team is 29th in goals per game allowed. Perhaps most importantly, they are only sixteenth in penalty kill percentage, which, combined with being #2 nationally for penalty minutes, equals a whole lot of power play goals allowed (19).

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Congratulations to Drew Shore on his 1st NHL goal
Drew had an assist earlier--Multi-Point game

Box Score
3rd Period 06:25

FLA

Drew Shore (1) Tip-In - Assists: J. Skille (1)

Unfortunately Florida lost 6-5 on OT--that score sound familiar:(

Although the Panthers lost the game, Drew was also +3.

Denver – (15-9-5, 10-7-5 WCHA) – The Pioneers captured the Gold Pan this weekend but little else. Perhaps the most inconsistent team in the league, Denver has the ability to put up a half dozen goals on any night, shut you out on any night, or completely lay an egg on any night. The Pios will need to be on top of their game in the next couple of weeks as they host UND and travel to Minnesota. Quote from Taylot Seibel on Goon's World.

Couldn't agree more

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Since DU is on a bye this weekend, Boone and the DU students filmed a "Harlem Shake" video today.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Beau Bennett wearing #19 for Pens tonight. Pens up 1-0 midway thru 3rd. Not bad he is playing with Malkin and Neal.

That is definitely the most DU players in the NHL at once since I have been following DU. Now I'm wondering whether DU has EVER had more than 7 players in the NHL at once? Possibly in the 60's or 70's? I know we had 3 DU alums on ONE LINE on the Avs at one time (Rycroft, Laaksonen, Stastny), but there might have only been one other DU alum playing in the NHL at that time. Pretty cool. Drew and Beau will have to fight to stay up there.

Zucker got called up by Minny today also. Guess these guys really were ready to leave college puck!

I was thinking at the time that Zucker was ready, and I knew that Beau would get a shot because he was a first round pick. I am pretty surprised, though, that Drew is getting a shot this early in his career. Good for him.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Congrats to Jay Z, I don't think DU has had this many players in the NHL at the same time. Also some former DU players involved in the NHL in other capacities include Shawn Dineen who is a pro scout for Nashville. Mark Falcone sits on the Board of the Minnesota Wild with his brother, Phil who played at Harvard and is a minority owner. Craig Patrick is a Senior Advisor with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Marshall Johnston is Director of Pro Scouting for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Without playing so far this weekend, DU is up to #11 in PWR. DU tied for 6th with the Badgers in the WCHA. If WI ties or beats the Gophers this afternoon, DU will be in 7th but will have 2 games in hand on WI. Some big PWR games today.
