Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Just wondering about...

Individual Goal Scoring (Now)compared to last year (Then)thru 14 games.
Knowlton--Now 8 Then 4
Doremus--Now 7 Then 2

LaLeggia Now 6 Then 6
Nick Shore--Now 6 Then 4
Makowski--Now 5 Then 2
Ostrow--Now 4 Then 4
Tabrum--Now 4 Then 0
Loney--Now 2 Then 1
Mayfield--Now 1 Then 1
Larraza Now 1 Then 0
Big Mermis Now 0 Then 3
Phillips Now 0 Then 1
(Didier, like Ryder, doesn't score goals)

This group has scored 44 goals tnis year compared to 28 last year, a 56% increase.
(6 of the 28 were in last year's 10-2 rout of Mankato)

Have you noticed..
DU stats show NO Short handed goals; CollegeHockeyStats.net now agrees

Who's in charge of the math???
DU stats show:
Murray GP 2
Jussi GP 5
Brittain GP 8
2+5+8=15 We've only played 14 games. Before you ask, Box Scores do not show Brittain coming in to relieve Adam or Jussi.

I think they may have been a little hasty in filling that hockey sid position.:)

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Update: College Hockey Stats is NO longer showing Ostrow with a shorty.

Impressive stats for most of the guys. I must say, however, Loney is lagging this year. He has skill, a big frame, experience, but is not producing as he should. Rycroft said that Loney should make a significant impact in almost every game, and I agree. Hopefully he will find his groove, get some more goals, and draw attention away from his linemates, too.

Best wishes to Didier in his recovery, too. It will be good to get him back.

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Chris Butler finds a lockout home in Karlskrona, Sweden of the Allsvenskan league.
(Not the same league as Rhett Rakhshani's HV71 team)

11-27-12
Chris belongs NHL team Calgary Flame's organization and has qualifications from the U.S. national team, last in the World Cup which was held in Sweden / Finland, last year.
26-year-old Chris Butler was born in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2005, Chris, then 19 years in the fourth round of the NHL draften of the Buffalo Sabres. On 18 December 2008, he made his NHL debut for Buffalo against the LA Kings. Chris got a matching score and the debut ended with a crushing 5-0 victory for the Sabres.

Before the 2011-12 season, he was part of an exchange between the Sabres and his current club Calgary Flames. The club immediately signed a two-year-kontraktmed Chris, worth 17.5 million Swedish kronor.
2012 Chris was also taps into the U.S. national team for the first time and played all the matches when the U.S. had to leave the tournament after quarterfinal loss against Finland.

It is a very happy sports director responds to questions about his latest acquisition:
- Yes, it feels great and Karlskrona group fine initiative has made this possible. I'm very happy that we managed to tie Chris to the club.

What do you know about Chris Butler?
- It's a good trained back with really good skating. Chris is a useful two-way player with good attitude who always works hard.

How long is the contract written on?
- It's the season but Chris has the right to leave if the NHL takes off.

When will we see Chris play his first match for KHK?
- He's going to Karlskrona today and start training with the team as soon as possible. When he could play his first game as usual up to the Immigration Office. We are awaiting response from them before we can say anything/

As of 12/03/12 Butler was still waiting for approval from Swesdish immigration/from khk.se

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

I have a question, why I am a Sioux fan I was wondering if there is a reason Brittain has been splitting time? Thanks for your help

During George Gwozdecky's tenure at DU, he has had some of the best goalies in the school's history. School records, or close to them, for wins, shutouts, GAA, save pct, you name it. What has been very rare during these (nearly) 20 years has been a "starting" goalie who plays the lion's share of the games. Dubliewicz platooned with Berkhoel, who also platooned with Glenn Fisher after Dubie left. Mannino platooned with Fisher after Berkhoel left. It's just the way Gwoz does it. I'm not sure that anyone other than Gwozdecky can give you a real answer, but he likes his platoon.

That said, I don't think that any one goalie has shown himself to be head and shoulders above the other two in a way that would earn an everyday job.

To further what Duper said. At the beginning of the season Gwoz announced that the 3 goalies; Brittain, Olkinoura and Murray, would all be given starts over the first few series. Olkinoura was suspended by Gowz for the first 4 games for breaking team rules. Brittain and Murray got those starts. After his suspension was over, Jussi got some starts and Murray got hurt in practice and hasn't played in a game since. Since then Jussi and Brittain have been splitting the series. Gwoz had hoped to make a decision as to whether one guy would get the nod or he would use a platoon but the injury to Murray delayed that call. It appears for now that Gwoz is set on a platoon as both goalies have played well and deserve to be playing. When Murray is healthy I don't know what will happen as the current platoon seems to be working well. About the only recent goalie to play almost all the games in one season was Marc Cheverie in his last year at DU.

Actually Peter Mannino played 40 games his senior year

Chevy played in 40 games his sophomore year-=-Remember Lars "The Norwegian Nightmare" Paulgaard was his only backup.
In his junior year Chevy played in 35 games--he did miss time due to injury, and Adam Murray was the primary back up.

Brittain came in early after Chevy left and played in 33 games as a frosh. Murray became the back up once again.
After Brittain's surgery Olkinuora came in to be Murray's back up until Brittain could play. Then Adam was injured and Jussi took over. (Zack Hope was the back up for a number of games and has a perfect save % in his one appearance.:))

So now we have the Trinity+ Hope

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Just a couple of things:

1- Does anyone else besides me rout for these guys?
http://www.uscho.com/2012/12/04/at-alabama-huntsville-eyes-on-the-future-during-a-tough-present/
2- How much do you want to see American International win? I do!!!
3- Can we please all take a minute to thank the hockey Gods that we have DU to rout for?? May we never take them for granted!!

A scotch inspired DU Christmas message for DU fans!!!

I'll take it in the "spirit" rendered. ;)

Agreed. I wish I had some scotch handy. :D

On a totally unrleated note, does anyone else hate the new denverpioneers.com design? I think that the floating header is way too big, so that there is hardly any content above the fold. A problem which is only exacerbated by the presence of a floating footer. (I know I know, if that's my biggest problem... :D) (meh... I just noticed that you can make the footer go away.)

Just saw this on Twitter, don't know how accurate this rumor is. Ryan Kennedy writes for The Hockey News. Supposedly Q was at practice at DU today. There is nothing on the Portland website.

Potential big news out of Denver: Quentin Shore may be leaving NCAA Pioneers for #WHL Portland

Re: All Things Denver-The Real XXXIV

Looks like we'll get to keep our full team during the WJC this year. I looked at the preliminary USA roster on the thread that was started. Only 5 WCHA players, none from DU. No NCAA players on team Canada. And I double-checked. Juicy Jussi isn't on the Finland roster.
