Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

Re: Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

He checked him and pushed him. Oh my. Helgeson was the one who started the "fight".

I didn't say he didn't. But that's hockey and that's what happens. If he doesn't push him nothing happens. I like that the Gopher players are starting to not put up with that cause quite frankly last year they let everyone push them around and it showed.

Re: Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

The arena was not noticeably more empty than either of the DU games....I was at all three. It was actually much more energized tonight than either night against DU. Guess that happens when the team shows up to play.

In response to Suze, I think the Gopher's penalties were mostly deserved, but with the caveat that a few were very close calls, and given the history of refs in this league you kind of expect them not all to go the same direction. All in all, I thought the reffing crew was horrible. What was the deal with not even looking at the replay for the questionable Gopher goal in the third? Maybe I am missing something, but it seems that at the least a review was warranted. I think it may have been an attempt to even it up for not calling a penalty on Barriball just prior to Lucia's second short-handed goal....but I was at the game and didn't have the luxury of watching slow-motion replay.

I just wanted to coment on the whole argument about what happened right before the buzzer, and the Gophers not putting up with it. The Seawolves were out looking for a fight....it was obvious. I don't know who it was, but someone was tangled with Lucia and tried to fight him, Lucia wanted nothing of it. And of course. He is the captain, they have another league game to play, he can't be DQ'd. Immediately after that, the play you are talking about....the hit on Carmen was completely unnecessary and over the top (especially considering the score, time left, and where it occurred) and was then followed up with further instigation by the UAA player....Helgason came in and said enough is enough.

If he responded to an opponent pushing one of his teammates from behind, that isn't starting anything. That's retaliation / protecting a teammate.

Oh my gosh. I just watched the entire replay, and hardly any of what you said is true.

He was just playing hard for the W while being down by 4 goals with less than 30 seconds left?

Lucia not wanting to get involved in a fight? Somehow that does not surprise me....

Re: Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

HAhahaha! That was a sad ending for the Seapups. Instead of being beat and taking one on the chin and moving on, they try to goad every impact Gopher player into fisticuffs to get them DQ'd for the next game.

UAA has to work on that, they started doing it way too late. It was far too obvious what they were attempting to do.

Re: Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

That whole shift from Crowell earned him a DQ. Didn't try to win the faceoff, tried to crosscheck the other center in the face. Went to try and lay a big hit on the Gopher defenseman that got the puck behind his own net, but missed and stuck out his knee to try and get him anyways. Then he made a bee-line from behind the Gopher net to the forward that had the puck and tried to put his head through the glass. When the Gopher player was standing there after the hit, then he tried to start a fight.

Addition: Apparently he may have punched a ref, as well.
Bumped for a lack of truth.

Re: Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

Good to see the kids put the puck in the net. Good win for us. However, I dont think they will be satisfied unless the get the SWEEP.

Why would he need to fight in that situation, internet tough guy? I loved the fact he pointed at the scoreboard when the goon tried to start something for no reason whatsoever. Best of all it's better than being a lunatic like Jones.

Just finished watching the game. It's a good thing UAA is terrible because the Gophers looked sloppy (outside of the PK) and if they continue to play that way good teams will beat them. Whether or not all the calls were deserved I won't argue - sometimes the refs just see more of this than that and bad/missed calls go both ways. I didn't see anything in particular that would make me believe the refs were worse at the Gophers expense than not.

Almost straight from the horses mouth

Wonderful. Well, no Leddy for a while then. It'd be nice if this team could get through without a major injury of some sort for once.

Here comes Schack if Lofquist is still hurt.

I would add, with the exception of the non-video review.

Also, if anything, they favored the Gophers by giving MN all those penalties. MN was at its best shorthanded. I think tomorrow, if they go a few minutes without many chances, Lucia might send someone out to get a tripping penalty so they can generate some offense on the PK.

That's something to build on. That Seawolves team sure didn't play or act like they had just beaten a UND team.

I don't support the goofs....ever....but for the sake of the WCHA I have a big problem with the no video review. I watched the play a few times on dvr and it should have definitely been reviewed. I understand the goofs were winning handily but that shouldn't matter, more busch league refs ruining a great sport. Keep your eyes on the prize goofs, sioux shat saturday night against UAA down their legs last week :( .

Re: Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

Just as Marco Hunt got ripped after the ND game I'm sure Mr Albers will get a good chewing out from Shepard. A mutual friend tells me he watches all the games on Sunday night and then calls the referees.

The Gophers played the best I've seen them play in a long time, and although I'm not for the fighting they better quit going after our guys or Helgeson is going to nail them.:D

There was a missed call. Leinweber was hooked down, which led to the two on one breakaway.

Watching my team is like a craps shoot, you just never know. :(

Which just speaks to the crappy-ness of the officiating. Who were the officials last night? Definitely seemed like a B-team crew.
