Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

Re: Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

Congrats rodents. Again we saved your season. I hate being right. we don't match up very well and we got swept again *cry*.

Re: Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

No. Friday was by far their best effort this season and much better than either games with Denver.

Bah.

As Slap Shot mentioned from Friday, pretty sloppy. This time was even more noticeable cause UAA had shot after shot on Kangas (golden scoring opps) and Kangas was huge. This was his game and if he can do that he may be back.

Got the sweep. Lot of UND fans didn't think it was possible.

Re: Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

UAA didn't come to play this weekend. They don't look anything like the team that played against UND last Saturday...they are more resembling the team that showed up against UND last Friday.

I don't buy this at all. According to Donald's blog the Seawolves that played Sunday's game were on par with the ones that defeated UND. He was not thrilled with Friday's effort apparently.

You've said enough. :D :D

I will admit that Kangas saved UMN a few times with some good, timely saves. UAA had some chances, but I still don't think they looked nearly as good as the previous Sat. They were much better in the defensive zone in the Sat game against the Sioux than they were today.

There is no higher authority. :D
I'm impressed you could wade through it. :)

I thought that my Seawolves looked MUCH better today. They had numerous glorious scoring chances, but Kangas stood on his head. Goal tending was better for UM that it was for UAA. Gotta put those pucks in the net guys. Defense will only get you so far in this league, you gotta score.

Having said that, you are coming home and playing a DU team without Chevy. I have no doubt you can put pucks past that traitor Murray. ;) You can turn it around, just like the Gophers did.

Congrats Minny on the sweep. I hope Leddy heals up quickly.

I have to agree with Donald on this one.:)

Re: Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

Yeah, that has to be true considering UND lost and UM won.
Of course, Donald didn't say it was "on par" with the UND game. He said that the way they played this Sunday and last Saturday are two examples of what it takes to compete in the WCHA. Donald also seemed to gush about UAA's play a lot more in the game recap against UND then he did against MN.

Plus, I'm sure MN played better on Sunday then UND played last Saturday, though I will admit that I didn't see Sunday's game. Besides, it's brianvf saying this...it's not like it's Dirty, or SoCal/one of the other tools in our fanbase...

Bah? You forgot the "Humbug" Scroogy. Yeah right:rolleyes:

1) The Gophers scored five times,
2) Tony Lucia had two goals for the first time in his career, both short-handed,
3) Taylor Matson had a great game,
4) Jay Barriball gave Lucia a beautiful centering pass on a 2-on-1 rush on the second goal,
5) Kevin Wehrs scored his first goal in 79 games,
6) Budish scored his first goal as a Gopher,
7) Aaron Ness gets his first goal, only his third in two seasons at the U,
8) Alex Kangas was efficient with most of the action in the UAA end.
9) 5>0 :D

Besides, it's brianvf saying this...it's not like it's Dirty, or SoCal/one of the other tools in our fanbase...

Re: Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

What was up with the second period on Sunday? It looked like UAA decided to try to skate with the Gophers instead of playing 4 men back. I think there were more odd man rushes both ways in the second than the whole game on Friday. It got to the point where Lucia called a time out. I can imagine the talk at the bench "How can you let these guys get behind you? They don't have that kind of speed, get your azzes back on the back check and stop hanging Alex out to dry!" :)

Just my opinion from watching both games. UAA had scoring chances in both games, just that in the Sat UND game, they played very well defensively as well...really limiting UND's chances until the game was almost over. Contrast that to yesterday when UMN had great scoring chances all game. Credit UMN for pressuring them, which no doubt had something to do with that. :)

He called a time out because the Gopher players were gassed and they just had iced the puck. That had a lot more to do with why that time out was called.

It was the only reason he called a time out.

I thought Sunday was a very entertaining game. It was fairly even, lots of back and forth action, very few whistles, very cleanly played yet still physical. The biggest difference seemed to be Kangas made a couple saves that Christianson didn't, and the Gophers capitalized on a couple opportunities better than the Seawolves did. Special teams also looked much better for MN that UAA.
I don't understand the UAA fans complaining about their team. They played MUCH better than they did Friday night.
I thought the Gophers were kind of just letting it hang out so to speak, in that they were sacrificing some defensive play through the neutral zone in exchange for a bit more of an offensive minded mentality. And I don't mind it; they went up by 2 after the first, they have been having trouble scoring lately, Knagas was looking strong, so why not try to get a few more goals and build some offensive confidence? But if they try to play that style against some of the better teams in the league (like Wisco this coming weekend) it might not work as well.

I tend to agree with your assessment (although I was occasionally switching to the football game so didn't have as good of a feel for this game. However, I would give the AA goalie a little more credit. Kangas played great and made a few saves which prevented a potential momentum shift that could have made it a closer game. And while the AA goalie didn't play quite as well, he did have a few big saves that if he didn't make the stop, could have opened the game up for MN.

Can't wait to see what they can manage against the WI D.

Re: Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

It seemed like the Gophers were avoiding contact to try to poke the puck away and start a rush. It worked quite often in the first, but the Seawolves turned a number of them into pretty solid chances in the second and third. Personally, I would have appreciated the Minnesota players taking the body more frequently. It will be a better approach against the Badgers.

They did play much better, but they still lost 4-1. I am tired of moral victories. They don't put butts in the seats. Winning does.

Re: Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

Lucia was awesome in this series. Not just the goals, but the sacrifices he was making as well. With just a few minutes left and leading 5-1 and 4-1, he was still dropping down and taking slappers to the legs/gut. I like it.
