Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

Re: Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

Ah, nothing like a home game with the Seapups to cure what ails the Gophs. :D

Was hoping T. Lucia would get a special teams hattrick, but couldn't finish. Teammates were feeding him on the late 5 on 3.

PS Hope Leddy is OK. Looked bad. Got hit just after he let a shot go and was in an awkward position.

The game will be played on FSN in about 1 minute so we will see I guess.

I watched the game until after UAA scored their only goal, as I wanted to see how they looked. They were flat. Gophers were beating them to all the loose pucks, and UAA had bad passing ... again. One step forward, two steps back.

Re: Alaska Anchorage @ Minnesota 10/30/09-11/1/09

Did Crowell get a DQ for dropping the gloves?

That whole shift from Crowell earned him a DQ. Didn't try to win the faceoff, tried to crosscheck the other center in the face. Went to try and lay a big hit on the Gopher defenseman that got the puck behind his own net, but missed and stuck out his knee to try and get him anyways. Then he made a bee-line from behind the Gopher net to the forward that had the puck and tried to put his head through the glass. When the Gopher player was standing there after the hit, then he tried to start a fight.

Addition: Apparently he may have punched a ref, as well.

Suze those pictures are during warmups. According to stats the Mariucci can hold 10,000 and tonight the attendance was 9,710. So 300 from a sell out isn't really empty.

Just because it's only 300 shy of a sellout, doesn't mean it can't be empty. It was pretty pathetic, actually. I can't even imagine what Sunday is going to look like.

Leddy with a fractured jaw and concussion..

Ouch! Did they say how long he'll be out for?

That's paid attendance though. There were far more than 300 empty seats there when they did the camera shots of the crowd.

That number is paid attendance. So, if you buy a ticket and don't show up, you're counted as "being there" according to that number. However, since many tickets are held by corporations and doled out to employees/whoever that don't use them, the arena is often emptier than it should be (even when the team is playing well). The only games in which the arena is actually ever full are the ones against UND, UW, and SCSU.

I thought I heard that announced at the game. I was hoping there would be an update on this on this board. I can't find a recap of the game that discusses this.

If this is true, that is not good... Definitely a multi-game suspension. If not, kindly ignore this post.

I just watched the replay on my DVR, and Crowell checked Carman, (not a penalty), then #4 came at him hard, and Crowell actually had his back to the ref and was taken down to the ice (with the ref) by #4. So if the ref got punched, it wasn't by Crowell. Even Woog referred to #4 as a "truck coming at Crowell".

You skipped where Crowell after the legal check went after Carman. That's why Helgeson went after him.

Oh my gosh. I just watched the entire replay, and hardly any of what you said is true.

I think it definitely deserves mentioning that Wooger was really on his game tonight. He must have been at Stubb & Herbs by about 2. The first period was the worst, maybe security wouldn't let him bring a bottle in so he sobered up a bit. My favorite comment was when he said that Lucia had a bad season his first year at MN because the cupboard was bare when he got there! :D

I just watched it Scooby, he didn't go after Carman. You are talking what happened right in the last few seconds of the game, right? He checked Carman, then heard Helgeson coming after him.

I just watched it. He checked him in the corner, Carman started to skate away, he pushed him in the back........then Helgeson came after him.

He checked him and pushed him. Oh my. Helgeson was the one who started the "fight".

Yeah, the refs were awful tonight (against both sides). Phantom penalties, missed calls, and just a total loss of control. I don't believe the seawolves should have gotten the double penalty in the third. I mean, that one wasn't even close unless there was another call that I missed. There was clear control of the puck at least once (if not twice).

I've been to probably 12 or 13 gopher-uaa games and I can't recall a melee like this in any of those games.
