2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

I'm catching up on three pages, so my apologies if this was covered, but from what Ive read, any fundraising done for the Biden/Harris ticket can be used for a Harris/[VP] ticket because Kamala is still on board. If it's anyone else, the money raised is locked to Biden/Harris, and the new ticket needs to start fundraising.

Money directly sent to the DNC for *waves hands* hands obviously be used however the committee sees, but downticket candidates are gonna be screwed as the top ticket siphons money to catch up to Trump.

Plus, we now have just under four weeks to the DNC and four weeks afyer that until early voting starts. BUT ballots need to be printed ahead of time. There are some states who may not be able to get a new duo on the ballot in time (looking at you Ohio).

Michigan's are due like 2 days after the convention. There is just no time.

To me it seems like they got Biden to cut a deal...step aside and we take Kamala. Don't and the attacks continue.

And it puts the donors on blast. They said they wanted him gone and he is. If they turn on her now all of them look like racist misogynistic weasels. Not sure the Hollywood types want that out in public or their media mouthpieces.

I'm at work...I assume Biden will gave an address about this at some point? They need to write a banger speech.

Trump might short circuit against her. Especially if he paints her as weak on crime. I honestly am not sure what he can use against her except the bs innuendo. She will kill him on race, abortion, being a criminal and will showcase what he thinks of women. And of course...his attempts to court jews is dead ;)

Her "Dukakis moments" at the border wall will be her undoing, and Trump will jump all over that. She's gonna need to really shore up the Latino vote, or have a Latino running mate. But, as pointed out, Shapiro kneecaps Trump with Pennsylvania, while Buttigieg will murder Vance like Eminem vs Falcon in 8 Mile.

I don’t think it’s clear. Some polls have had her outperforming Whitmer, Newsom, et al

“A Reuters/Ipsos poll released July 2 (margin of error 3.5) found Harris would lose to Trump by one point, Biden tied Trump, while four governors who have been floated as potential Biden replacements—Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker—would all perform worse than both Biden and Harris against Trump.”

I think if she destroys Trump in a debate it will move the needle. Also, I think there would be some excitement that will boost her numbers.

Polling on "new" candidates is tough...because they haven't run a campaign. As Kepler said last week it's a popularity contest. And truth be told the media largely ignores her. But her speeches sell out for a reason.

I wouldn't really worry about her polling for at least a month. It's going to be as crazy as the Pair wise in November til then.

I'm not talking about him dying before the convention... pull your head out of your ***.

I was you dip shit.

I had said “what if he dropped dead” meaning at this point in the race — before the convention.

you said it wasn’t the same because there is a constitutional process — but there isn’t for the situation I mentioned. It would play out the exact same way; his delegates would no longer be bound to him and it would be resolved at the convention.

Biden dropped out. End of story. No one can force him to be the nominee.

Agree

Michelle Obama joins the fray, beats Trump then immediately resigns. She chooses Hillary or Hunter Biden as her running mate. Watch MAGAts heads explode.

I don't think anyone remembers that cause she was Veep and immigration is not the big issue with Indys it is with GOPers. The economy is bigger and she has that messaging in spades. If the border mishap was a big deal they would still be talking about and they don't. (I forgot til just now and I'm a political junkie)

Plus Dukakis moments don't matter much anymore because the news cycle is different. It's like Gerald Ford falling it just doesn't matter. Nothing stays relevant long enough to hold like back then because there was less choice in media. Now a candidate can screw up and something even dumber can happen a day later and wipe it out. I mean Trump has a moment that would kill an 80s campaign twice a month...

What if Biden got hit by a bus tomorrow? It will be Harris at that point... To ask what if he drops dead there are constitutional provisions already in place made for that. Yes the nomination would be resolved at the convention that isn't what we're talking about here...we're talking about the fact that Biden didn't drop out he was forced out...And if you're so butt blind that you can't see that... that's your problem not ours.

Better yet have George Soros come out AGAINST her...watch as they have to decide who they hate less and then lock up like a robot whose cpu fried

Looks like a lot of The Squad has endorsed...I assume Omar will as she was all in for Biden. This is good!

We need the people like Brown to endorse next. The ones worried about the donors.

Look, I think one of your main arguments for someone other than Biden was they were less well-known, and therefore, had room to grow in the polls. Harris doesn’t have that luxury. Everyone knows her. Furthermore, her “destroying” Trump in a debate is far from a guarantee. If she stumbles at all, we know how the media will treat it. Trump will get the deference.
I guess I ultimately think of it is like this: who was (allegedly, in my opinion) running away from Biden after the debates? Democrats? Independents? I know y’all mock Drew or Hovey as much as I do, but they’re both very much the definition of a swing voter. They voted for Biden and regularly vote for Republicans. If that’s who Pelosi is afraid of losing, does Harris solve that problem for us as Democrats? Since Drew likely won’t give us a sincere answer, and Hovey has been notably silent in this thread lately, we may never know if Harris sways them to stay blue this election.
Now, if it’s Democrats like Handy, Kepler, Fade Pelosi is afraid of losing, does Harris fix that for us? Again, none of the Democrats I personally know are saying they wouldn’t vote for Biden anymore. I don’t think the base was sitting this election out. So, is it the rich? The Democratic donors? Would they have stayed home and/or voted Trump instead of Biden? Probably, due to their big fu-king egos.
Anyways, it comes down to the voters answering polls Democrats like Pelosi et al. viewed as permanently running away. I still dispute that, but that’s old news. Y’all caught the wheel. Now show us that wasn’t the only part of the plan.

The media that no one thought was correct about Biden dropping out this weekend says he might make a statement this week. And that is why he needed to step down people. If he doesn't have the strength to go on TV and make a prepared speech but instead does this via a one-page statement, that is quite telling to me.

No one here knows anything, including me, but I believe when this all washes out we are going to see that over the last few months Biden declined precipitously. If we are still around a few years from now when the history of his presidency is being written I believe it will have two main stories. One, he accomplished more in office than anyone had a right to expect. It is nearly impossible for a president to have the kinds of positive effects his administration had. But the second story will come out that he suffered a rapid decline in his cognitive abilities, and illness maybe played a part in exacerbating that.
