2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

It's interesting.

MSNBC is by far the most progressive of the Network Media. Yet, somehow the GOP gets more traction out of the media being unfair to them then the Democrats get and it has been clear for many many years now that the media is in the backpocket of the GOP.

Alex Wagner, Rachel Maddow, Jen Psaki. There are some progressive voices on the station. And they're not meek and timid like the ones you generally see on FOX, or CNN where the Republican voices overrun the progressive voices like a truck in a fight with a squirrel.

That all being said I feel like if you want balanced reporting you're most likely to get it from MSNBC because of the righties they have on the channel. It's unlike the main brand NBC News which may as well be a Fox affiliate.

A month ago I might have agreed with you...this is no longer true. First of all Psaki is pretty mediocre and has totally bought into the "Biden is feeble" plot. Wagner and Maddow have fallen of a cliff in terms of credibility as their concern trolling post debate has basically turned them into off brand Faux blowhards. The only difference is they are ageist not racist and sexist. Honestly The Lawrence O'Donnell is the only one with any real cred left...even Chris Hayes has lost the plot. (it will be fun in November when the polls are wrong again, Biden and the Dems "overperform" and he asks for the third election in a row "How did we get it so wrong?!?!?") Wallace used to say "twice Impeached, rapist convicted felon" before Trump's name every day...what are the chances that continues? Scarborough will bend a knee too because he has always been a hack.

Now, to be fair, there was an article I saw posted by semafor (which I refuse to read because their anti-Biden crap is beyond the pal disgusting sometimes) had a headline about how 2 networks are cutting back on convention coverage because they fear talking to the Republicans and the reaction they will get post Republican on Republican violence. I would bet money NBC/MSNBC is one of them.

We will see...in a normal election year they would be nice during the convention and then go back to normal a few days later. In this case though they were negative about Biden before and now they are slobbering Trump's knob so who knows how they will go. If they dont soften it up before the DNC though then they likely will continue to lose money and viewers because they will have confirmed they have no interest in news just what Corporate Daddy wants.

FWIW, walking away from MSNBC and CNN (along with WaPo and the Times) has lowered my anxiety level by a significant amount. There is a noticeable difference in my mental health and quality of life and it happened rather quickly. If you walk away from the rage machine your brain stops getting the dopamine and serotonin jolt and it feels friggin great!

I don't think MSNBC or NBC has cut convention coverage. Given the amount of people they have on the floor, etc. Soboroff (SP?) had a run in with Don Trump Jr. yesterday.

If I remember correctly their numbers had been looking pretty good within the last year. I guess I am not surprised they are botching the election cycle and I bet the narrative is coming from up above. Everyone is obsessed with being fair to a criminal running for President. It is sickening. The Courts are bending over, the media is bending over, the Business World is bending over.

Yeah that is what I read as well. Every primetime show was up...often doubling CNN and trailing Faux because of the Boomers. Now they just had their worst ratings of the year...

I assume this is a direct result of the aftermath of the debate.

Then according to ticapfakenews, who exactly were the viewers abandoning MSNBC? The Progressives? So the 569,000 viewers remaining are only right wingers, hence the MSGOP? Meaning Rachel's DJt is Hitler sermon is being watched by just righties and for some reason they have nothing better to do? Not fans of Barney Miller, or test patterns? Or are the 569,000 just Progressives passing the time until their Kool-Aid IV drip is completed? Can someone ask tippy? Neilsen is dying to know.

No, MSGOP isn't anything close to progressive. Centrist? Yes. Liberal? Maybe. Not even in the same neighborhood as progressive.

The morning kicks off with a show by a former GOP Congressman and his wife, the daughter of a general. I haven't watched in a long time, but does Mrs. Alan Greenspan still have a two-hour show at midday? The progressive voices at the network all get fired for various reasons - mostly because they are too progressive. This isn't anything new. Phil Donahue had the best ratings on MSNBC at the time, but was kicked off the air because he wouldn't cheerlead the wars after 9/11. As soon as a host says anything remotely progressive or doesn't bang the war drum sufficiently they are gone.

Boy it's good to see that Axios is going to give air time to Junior. Surely they will push back on the 100-plus lies he'll tell.

Maybe "cut" is the wrong word...they were going to do their best to limit interactions with GOPers. But NBC did have their female hosts fellate Eric Trump live on TV so maybe you are right. I guess I was looking for an excuse but there is no excuse for their BS.

That's fair. I should have used liberal instead of progressive.

No Greenspan is not on. Not sure who is on midday. Former Dubya liar Nicole Wallace is on to start Primetime and honestly she hates Trump so much I can ignore her crappy politics half the time. (though now she has flipped on most of the major issues like Gay rights, Abortion and so on)

MSNBC is basically what CNN used to be. They have a left lean but represent both sides. As you said closer to "Centrist" than "Progressive" but they do promote progressive ideas...mainly because those are the correct ideas like Abortion Rights and LGBTQ+ rights.

You are talking about a completely different version of the network that hasn't existed since the fall of Air America.

Interesting but in the end it won't matter at all:

BREAKING: RFK Jr.'s son LEAKS VIDEO of RFK Jr's private conversation with Trump from one day after the shooting.

On the call, Trump spews unhinged conspiracy theories about vaccines and appears to promise him a job in his administration.

WATCH...

Greenspan's wife is on. I am sure that is what is being referenced here.

Mrs Alan Greenspan = Andrea Mitchell. And yes, I see she still has a show at noon.

Mehdi Hasan might argue that the version of MSNBC still exists, long after the Air America era...

If you watch the clip you can see the MSNBC crew in the side by side they can obviously see it and don't even make a joke. They are so afraid of upsetting the GOP they now can't even mock Trump falling asleep at his own coronation.

Exactly why I said it. I also love the people on social media training that trump was praying... The Antichrist doesn't pray you idiots

The whole f uc king country needs to adopt the attitude of some of the commentary in that thread. F uc k her and her dead husband. trump has sown the political discouse with violence for years. It's come home to roost and once again taken one of trump's own. I have no more sympathy for her than I do for Ashli Babbitt's family. You were attending a rally for a traitor, a guy who is an actual enemy of our democracy. One less trump voter is what I take from it. In a swing state no less.

I almost posted something similar yesterday. I don't feel bad for her either, since she apparently can't think for herself. I don't think her dead husband is a "hero" for doing what any responsible and loving parent should do for their kids in the line of fire. He did not deserve to die, but he was by all accounts a dedicated Trump supporter who brought his kids to a hate rally. No amount of "he was a terrific dad" is going to wipe off that stink.

I tend to agree. You go to a hate rally and die no one should be surprised. Won't change anything. Republicans will keep the hate flowing, and then come on TV and explain how it's the other side that's hateful not them, and then the media will draw a false equivalency and say the hate is the same on both sides.

And then another person will die, and the circle will continue.

No one should be surprised someone got shot by a sniper at a rally? How many times has this happened before that makes it unsurprising?

I have no love lost for MAGA cultists and when it comes to say them getting fucked over by the unintended consequences of bad legislation and things like that I'm on board with laughing at them. But at the end of the day he was a human being and being ignorant or uneducated shouldn't be a death sentence. You sound like the idiots that say, "oh well he shouldn't have run from the cops" when an unarmed suspect gets shot in the back fleeing the police.
