2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

Trump's Aphasia/dementia riddled speeches this spring makes me wonder if his handlers will let him debate. Him on stage for 60-90 minutes without a teleprompter and having to think quickly might be beyond him by now. His polling has always been better when he keeps his mouth shut and let the media bothsides them. It's nothing new for the Republicans anyway, given that Reagan slept through his second term.
 
I dont think they have a choice...he has nothing to campaign on and he cant ride rallies all the way to November they are already starting to fizzle.

If I read right the killer won't be that he will be sundowning, its that there wont be an audience.

Nate Silver is bigly mad Biden agreed to do debates notb done by the Commission. I'm sure he is worried what that nerd thinks...

Most billionaires are liberals. They'd love it if their daughter married a black guy, they think the Thumpers are orangutans, they'll pay higher property taxes to fund arts in their public schools, they think abortion should be a protected right, they want to repeal the Patriot Act.

What they don't want is substantive (read: effective) wealth redistribution. They realize somewhere in their souls that their personal comfort comes at the cost of billions of lives lived in misery no less so than slave holders or robber barons, but they won't do what's needed to fix it. And if you come along and say you're going to fix it, they will fight you, even if it means linking up arms with the Right. Even, if the threat of true egalitarianism becomes strong, the Far Right.

There are three political brackets: the Right, the Liberal, and the Left. Liberals ally with the Left on everything that does not affect them personally. But start cutting into their privileges and no, that's "too radical." They will always betray the Poors when the chips are down.

Derogatory in some senses. Liberals are hypocrites. The Right, at least, not only admits they will never help the Poors, they revel in it. Liberals instead play with their worry beads and then kill anybody who proposes a real solution in the Democratic primaries.

The Right is sincere and cruel, the Liberals are hypocrites, and the Left are sincere and inept. Those are your choices. Personally, I am the worst of all, since I recognize what Liberals are but cannot bring myself to do anything real. I have no doubt you all will get into John Kenneth Galbraith Heaven because your self-delusions mask your guilt to yourselves, if not everybody else. I don't even get that. In the Kingdom of selfish sh-ts, the self-aware selfish sh-t is the one who is d-mned.
 
I sincerely believe you think those are the choices, but they're not. I probably wouldn't describe myself as a true progressive. I want progressive policies in many areas, but not all. Am I sincere? Am I a hypocrite?

I'd caution you against deifying the sincerity of the progressives. They just like the rest of us. You just identify with them and can't see their faults.

That isn't being a Liberal. I am not sure you actually know what a Liberal is but it is definitely not that. That is the picture the Right (especially Faux News) has painted of Liberals since the 1990s and apparently you bought it hook line and sinker.

Well, I guess that does sort of describe the Liberal that lives in NY...but they aren't Liberals they are Centrists who like to look good when people are watching...the types that love Blacks except if they live in their neighborhood. They think because they protested in college or brought their much tanner SO to Thanksgiving one year that means they understand how the other half lives when in reality they wouldn't spit on a homeless person if they were on fire outside their apartment, they would just call the police to have them removed. The students at Columbia who are all about Gaza but never seem to notice all the Native Americans missing from where their school and family are. Those are not Liberals.

The difference between what you are describing and what is actually the truth is the difference between say Jerry Nadler and Joe Biden. Jerry Nadler talks Liberal and acts (small c) conservative, or slow. Liberals don't go slow they move and act at a pace that wont blow back on them but still lurches the country the correct way especially on social issues. Progressives push for bigger change faster (you know PROGRESS) and lack most sense of pragmatism because they are, in their minds, always fighting for the greater good and damn the consequences.

If Jerry Nadler or his ilk were in charge nothing would get done. (like when he leads a committee) Every decision would take a year, nothing would change and his voters and the Centrists who support him would love it while everyone else voted him out for being ineffective. Meanwhile Joe Biden is busy getting crap done on a daily basis. Is it as far left as I would like it or as fast? Nope. But having seen the blowback that comes from many of the things I would like to see I get it. Even with half of Congress supporting full on authoritarianism and destroying him and his family on an hourly basis he still does his phucking job and does it well. That is why Progressives (well most of them...AOC and Omar for sure and of course Bernie) support him. He isn't some Centrist stooge saying the right things to the camera so he can the money flowing in...which is basically the type of "Liberal" you are talking about.

This is outstanding news. Win or lose (and you know my preference), this will drive out blue voters rather substantially more than it will red voters (if that was not true, then GQP'ers would be happy to make sure it's on every ballot).

I believe you and handy were called centrists, and I was called a liberal a while ago . All intended as slurs of course

apparently a hypocritical leftist position is the correct one?
